Get Your Free Chicken and Caffeine on May 15th

This Thursday there will be two nation-wide promotions offering treats to customers of McDonalds and Dunkin’ Donuts. While I’m a fan of chicken and waffles, I’ve never done chicken and coffee. Here’s the skinny on some high-calorie munchies…

McDonalds – These guys have been touting their new Southern Style Chicken products in a big way this past couple of weeks. Offering both a Southern Style Chicken biscuit and a Southern Style Chicken Sandwich, they seem to have all their bases covered. They have also been handing out coupons like mad, putting them in Sunday coupon inserts and the shipping boxes of all my Amazon.com orders.

They are hoping to introduce the all-white meat sandwiches to the nation in the May 15th promotion, offering a free biscuit from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and a free sandwich from 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. with the purchase of any medium or large beverage. (My hubby says to go for the jumbo iced tea, which is very cheap, and not bad for a Southern Sweet Tea knock-off.)

Dunkin’ Donuts – (Sigh.) Why can’t there be one of these stores in my area. I love the coffee offered on grocer’s shelves, and would die to get my hands on the free iced coffees being given away on May 15th. From 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., the coffee guru will be handing out 16 oz. iced coffees anyway you like them (limit one per person per store.) Facebook users can RSVP to the event , which is perfect for letting your friends know which one of the 9 flavors you plan on trying: French Vanilla, Toasted Almond, Raspberry, Hazelnut, Coconut, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Caramel, and Blueberry) or create your own flavor by combining 2-3 flavors.

So go grab a chicken sandwich, wash it down with an iced coffee, and fast for supper. With 435 calories and 19 grams of fat for the sandwich alone, these fabulously free eats will be a special treat for our family. But I do love chicken…..

I would be curious to know what other's think of the sandwich. I ordered one this past week (before I knew of this special) and it was the blandest, tasteless mushy sandwich I've had in my life. One off or is it really that bad?

I'm game for most any sandwich, even bland ones.  I'm wondering if you could scrape off the pickles and mayo and jazz it up with some BBQ or a little Tobasco?

They just serve them with pickles here, like Chic Fil A

I actually quite like the southern chicken sandwich (as compared to their other crispy chicken sandwiches). Always hot and juicy. Not as good as Chic Fil A

If you really love DD's coffee, I'll tell you their secret. It's relatively easy and inexpensive to replicate the DD coffee experience. Just get a bag of the cheapest oldest coffee beans you can find at a $0.99 store. Dump the beans in a puddle in the parking lot and stomp in the puddle with your bare feet for at least 5 minutes. Separate the beans and let them dry on the sunny side a freeway for at least a day. Then add one teaspoon of cinnamon for every pound of beans. For a stronger flavor get your feet nice and sweaty before the stomping.

That's the DD coffee secret. Crappy beans & cinnamon.

Well put! The first time I suffered through Dunkin' Donuts coffee, I had just flown back into the States from Eastern Europe. I was craving a real cup of joe, but there was no Starbucks in the airport...

Never again.

The Chicken breakfast biscuit is not bad; it's not Chik-fil-a, but I don't have one of those within 10 miles of me. I have a Mcdonald's within walking distance.

I had to laugh at your comment about not having any DD's in your area. Where I'm from one out of every 5 or so gas stations has a full service Dunkin Donuts (usually even with drive-thru), many Supermarkets have in-store Dunkin Donuts, there is at least one (and often two or three) Dunkin Donuts in every neighborhood.
