There are a few different credit cards you can choose from to maximize your spending and take advantage of extra perks and benefits when you stay at Hilton Portfolio properties. The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card, however, offers more points and more benefits than the others. If you frequently stay in Hilton hotels, this card may be the best card for saving money and getting the most out of your hotel stays. (See also: Best Hotel Credit Cards)

Why We Like This Card

  • Earn 130,000 bonus Hilton Honors points after meeting spending requirements. Terms apply.
  • 12x points for Hilton Portfolio hotel stays

How This Card Works

This card awards 12X points for each dollar spent on Hilton Portfolio hotels or resorts, 6X points for each dollar spent at U.S. restaurants, U.S. supermarkets, and U.S. gas stations, and 3X points for each dollar spent on all other eligible purchases. Terms and limitations apply.

Bonus offer: Earn 130,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after you spend $2,000 in purchases on the Card within your first 3 months of Card membership.

You can redeem your points for award nights at Hilton Portfolio properties, with Category 1 properties available for as few as 5,000 points. Points can also be redeemed for room upgrades, merchandise in the Hilton Honors Shopping Mall, car rentals with various companies, or gift cards. Plus, you can redeem your points for miles with more than 60 airline frequent flyer programs. You can earn an unlimited number of points, which do not expire as long as you earn or redeem points every 12 months. (See also: Best Cards for Transferring Hotel Points to Miles)

Other Benefits

Complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status. Gold status with Hilton Honors typically requires 20 stays or 40 nights within a calendar year, but as a cardholder, you receive Gold status free. This status includes perks like a 25% points bonus, room upgrades, and in-room high-speed Wi-Fi. (See also: Best Cards with Free Hotel Status Upgrades)

Get Diamond status faster. If you spend $40,000 in purchases with your card within a calendar year, you get Honors Diamond status through the end of the next calendar year. Diamond status is the highest Hilton Honors tier and includes extra benefits such as a 50% bonus on Honors base points when you stay at Hilton properties, room upgrades, and executive floor lounge access.

Priority Pass. Cardmembers get access to over 1,000 airport lounges with Priority Pass membership. Lounge visits with this membership are subject to a fee of U.S. $27 per person per visit. (See also: Best Credit Cards with Free Airport Lounge Access)

Online booking bonus. You can also get a bonus of 500 Honors points for each stay at properties in the Hilton Portfolio when you use your card to book the reservation online and use your card to pay for your stay.

Travel benefits. This card includes the travel benefits that American Express and Hilton cards are known for, such as the baggage insurance plan which protects you in case your baggage is lost, damaged, or stolen. Other travel benefits include roadside assistance and Global Assist hotlines, and travel accident insurance.

Terms Apply.

Costs

The annual fee is $95.

Considerations

Annual fee. Although there are many benefits and perks you can take advantage of that might help cover the annual fee, if you aren’t able to use the card enough to earn the rewards, it can become costly.

Foreign transaction fee. If you frequently travel abroad, the foreign transaction fee will become expensive and cancel out some of the rewards you earn with the card. Credit cards without foreign transaction fees are better cards for making foreign purchases. (See also: Best Travel Cards without Foreign Transaction Fees)

Who This Card Is Best For

This card is best for those who frequently travel and can take advantage of the extra benefits and earning opportunities you get as a cardmember. If you use the card enough to earn the points needed for award nights and can earn the bonus, you’ll find the annual fee worth paying. This card is also best if your purchases are primarily domestic because of the foreign transaction fee.

Terms apply.
