Will Chen's Bio

When I graduated from law school eight years ago, I started making decent money but didn't really know what to do with it. Buying new TVs and recreating the IKEA catalog in my apartment was the extent of my financial strategy. In my professional life, I started working on consumer rights cases which gave me an insider's perspective about finance and corporate corruption. I had the privilege of working on a couple of high profile cases, the most notable one being the litigation involving the California electricity scandal. While I learned a lot from the big cases, I got the most satisfaction out of working on small cases where I was able to help people on everyday problems, such as getting refunds from unscrupulous car salesmen or stopping harassment from strong-arming debt collectors. Working on these consumer cases inspired me to get my own personal finances in order. How can I effectively counsel a client about how to deal with debt collectors when, in my personal life, I had no idea how to protect my own FICO score? For the last two years I started studying the advice of personal finance and frugal living gurus. I am sharing what I've learned with you here on Wise Bread.
