I’m a twenty-something former grad student with $22,000 in student loans. I started this blog to help motivate myself to plan ahead and get a head start on paying back my loans. My original goal was to pay off my student loans by June 2010, and I created this blog to document my progress, share my successes and failures, and help inspire others who are in a similar situation. Shortly after starting Broke Grad Student, I got a job offer that I couldn’t refuse, so I took it. As a result, my student loan payments started earlier than expected, but since I had planned ahead, I was prepared. Although I started aggressively paying back my student loans at first, I decided that it made more sense to reduce my student loan payments and focus on other financial priorities like building an emergency fund. While I’ve been making the minimum payments on my student loans, my blog has continued to grow, and I’ve come to realize that it might be possible to pay off my student loans with the money I make online.
