Many of the credit card offers that appear on the website are from credit card companies from which Wise Bread receives compensation. This compensation may impact how and where products appear on this site (including, for example, the order in which they appear). This site does not include all credit card companies or all available credit card offers. If you are looking for a simple, low interest credit card, you may want to consider the U.S. Bank Visa Platinum Credit Card.

How This Card Works

If you need to carry a balance on your credit card, rewards for purchases is less important than a low APR. No matter what kind of rewards a credit card offers, you will end up paying more in interest if you carry a balance. So low interest credit cards generally don't offer rewards.

Other Benefits

Auto rental insurance. Allows you to decline the rental company's insurance option. The U.S. bank auto rental insurance provides 24 hour coverage against damage due to collision or theft.

FlexControl. Free online tool which provides features for setting up alerts and managing your card account. You can also choose autopay features such as FlexControl Essentials in which each month your minimum payment due is automatically debited plus up to seven essential categories that you select, such as gas or groceries, to pay in full. This particular feature helps pay off the purchases you choose rather than carrying them month to month with the rest of your balance.

Overdraft protection. If you have your checking account with U.S. Bank and overdraw the account, the funds you need can be automatically transferred to your bank account from the credit card.

Pros

Low APR. A low APR is particularly important if you frequently carry a balance from month to month rather than pay in full each month.

Cons

No rewards program. Although low interest credit cards do not typically have rewards programs, if you typically pay your balance in full each month, you can miss out on valuable cash back and travel opportunities. If the majority of your purchases fall within certain categories such as hotels, airfare, or even gas or groceries, cards which award those categories may provide more for your money by way of perks and rewards programs.

Foreign transaction fee. If you frequently travel abroad, this is an expensive extra fee that isn't charged by all credit cards. Some cards have no foreign transaction fees.

Who This Card Is Best For

The U.S. Bank Visa Platinum Credit Card is best for those who with good credit and need to carry a balance from month to month. Because of other benefits such as the overdraft protection, it may also be a good card for those who bank with U.S. Bank.
