You can amend your tax return by filing a 1040X. (That's pretty much how you fix any error on your tax return.)
My understanding is that, as long as you get the amended return in by mid-October or so, you'll still get the full rebate eventually (before the end of the year). If you don't get the amended return in early enough that they can get the payment out before the end of the year, you may lose out.
Great reminder; I used them when I was sick and they helped a lot. store brands, of course. when i was in israel, the paper was so stiff and dry it made me really appreciate store brands even more!
Yeah, there's a lot of that going around--banks setting their customers up to make mistakes so that the bank can charge a fee.
It's really sad that such behavior was probably the most profitable path for a bank over the past 20 years or so.
All their good customers will have done what you did, and stopped doing business with the bank--so that eventually, they were left with nothing but the losers. The thing was, the sort of loser who had no choice but to be treated that way by the bank (or else not have a credit card at all) was actually a very profitable customer for the bank--they paid huge amounts in interest and fees, and could never move their business because they had a big debt they couldn't pay off and a terrible credit rating.
No doubt the reason so many banks had zero-interest balance transfer deals was to capture exactly those customers: a balance transfer was about the only way those customers would be able to leave a bank that was screwing them. (Of course, the bank was only offering the deal because they wanted to get in on the hot customer-screwing action.)
My expectation is that we'll see less of this going forward. Those customers are going to turn out to be big money losers for the banks over the next few years. Those same people who paid the big fees and penalties are going to end up being big defaulters as the economy gets worse. The banks who treated their good customers badly (because their bad customers were the most profitable) are going to be the banks that end up charging off the most in credit card "assets" that turn out to be worthless.
We can only hope that the banks who provided good service on fair terms will turn out to be the most profitable going forward. That'd be good for everybody.
I cannot stress how well baby wipes work. Combined with TP, you only need 1 or 2 to get the job done. I feel much cleaner when using them. Oh, and regarding the bunch vs fold technique...We keep the roll on a hook thing. When I'm wiping, I take if off and hold it in one hand and kind of roll the paper around my fingers on my other hand. Finally, I remove the loosely rolled paper from my fingers and use get to the getting. Anonymity is fun.
Store the container upside down. We use the Kandoo brand, with a group of wipes sealed in plastic, and a pull-off part to open the package. We leave the wipes in that pack, and put it into the plastic dispenser. Having the container upside down means there's very little air above the next wipe, so it doesn't dry out. Dry wipes are almost as helpful as writing paper... :P
We've been using baby wipes more often - not only do you feel cleaner, but it's what my mom's doctor suggested to her to cut down on hemorrhoids, and upon mentioning this to my grandmother, SHE'S noticed that it cut down on them as well - HER doctor is suggesting them now! Something to think about if you have that problem.
Secondly, we've been considering a bidet - living in an apartment, I wasn't sure that we could even DO a bidet...but they have toilet snap-ons that don't need their own water line, as well as portable (hand-held) washers...both for REALLY cheap. Yes, you'll need to have some sort of towel to dry yourself with nearby, but you'll be cleaner, healthier, AND save money at the same time!
Yeah i just got a brand new corvette, and i was at the local Food-4-Less and i parked far away and to my surprise mother nature's wrath of wind had blown a cart clear into the path of my left rear quarter panel. I was angered by this. I need to know if you guys think i should try any of these methods. I am unsure and i don't want the pant to be ruined. Thank you Yoshimitsu Hajki
I laughed out loud more than once at this. You're right, many of us "forget our scruples in the stall." But you know, I've always wondered why toilet paper is perforated in the way it is... does anyone actually ever use one square of TP?
Lucille, you were the only one to bring up SSI and SSD. Very good, as you struck the Main Vein of the MotherLoad of all draining Entitlements.
In my area, Shasta County, the amount of SSI beneficiaries is Ssssttttaaaaggggeeeerrrriiiinnnngggg...
I would say, 80% of the residents of this County.
Look on the 1st of the Month. Do you see around you a mega-tude of people with Handicap plates and placard hangers? Most likely they are SSI.
SSI in California now pays $888 an individual. That hardly happens, as every person within the household of an SSI is paid SSI.
Say Dad qualifies for SSI at 22 years old. He's worked 6 months out of his life, maybe never worked at all.
He goes to the Social Security Administration Office and files a claim for Disability.
Social Security determines that Dad has NEVER worked a single day in his life, but that he has enough Medical paperwork that says 'He's Depressed'. Ok, so Social Security has Dad talk on the phone to a physician that asks questions for a little while as part of the form that is filled out, and Dad is Depressed to the Social Security physician. The physician get's a percentage of money to have done the Social Security screening and goes off happy with money and Dad is qualified for SSI because he never worked before a day in his life.
So Dad, and his wife who also never worked before and is 20 years old, both get a check. Combined in California they get $956 a month or real close to that.
Dad and spouse have 2 kids already, so they each get a check each month.
Over time the kids reach 18 and before they turn 18 they are determined to have ADHD by MediCal physicians and school personnel that gets extra money for qualifying them for 'Special Ed' IEP.
So as the kids turn 18 they get a check for $888 for the rest of their entire lives.
Do you see what's going on? And this is something EVERYONE is missing.
The illegals will become legalized, I have no doubt of that. As of today Feinstein has an AG extra attached to the Military Funding Bill. She wants more new Mexicans to be shipped into the US to pick lettuce.
That's because as soon as they get here on an AG Visa they run AWOL into cities and towns. The women go onto welfare CalWorks and EBT, low-income rental assistance, Section 8 Vouchers and HUD housing, and the men work Construction under the table.
That's why we need more Ag workers and will again next year if Feinsetin get's her way shipping more AG workers in this year to pick.
As soon as the Comprehensive Immigration Reform is passed in early 09' or soon after especially if we have a Liberal Democrat in the Presidency, that makes the newly legalized citizens or semi-citizens or whatever they will be called, Entitled to SSI!
That also means their elderly parents can be brought in from Mexico of El Salvador or wherever down there, and are Entitled to SSI also.
Their cousins, aunts and uncles that also live with them and their entire generational family will all be Entitled to SSI, because of one man, head of household.
That's alot of checks-in-the-box. Add it up.
And there's a rule in SSI. The recipient can OWN ONE HOME FREE AND CLEAR OF ANY VALUE.
That means that if Man, head of household own's a $500,000 home with 10 acres, he can collect, SSI.
I know a person exactly like that. You wondering how they could afford a $500,000 home? Inheritance.
Yes, an SSI can inherit real property, paid for, free and clear and keep it.
They will also qualify for low-income homeowners Property Tax Assistance. At the end of the year, after they have paid their property tax's. They will get back 95% of those property taxes.
Now, here is the Root of the whole problem with SSI.
Social Security Retirement beneficiaries pay taxes out of their checks.
SSI pays not a single penny of taxes. It is completely tax free. No tax at all.
This system, SSI is a complete DRAIN on the taxpayer and collected tax dollars that makes Social Security run.
Draining more and more each year. Each year the statistics show that more and more and more SSI's are applying and getting SSI.
More and More for 'MENTAL OTHER'. Like ADHD, Depression, Bi-Polar, Meth Addiction.
Oh the Social Security Administration says right on their site. They do not pay people to be cronically DRUNK. No, but if you are an ADDICT to Alcohol or Meth, and you cannot kick the habit. Or, you are loosing your teeth from the ravages of Meth, or your skin it turning yellow from Alcohol you can collect SSI.
I know tons of people in my tiny town in the mountains and ALL are on SSI.
All live month to month on SSI ONLY. They ALL inherited their property and live hand to mouth on SSI.
They are all a lazy pitiful bunch of completely worthless people.
Some are kids under 18. Some are in their 20's and were on SSI under 18, and continued into the rest of their lives on SSI. Some have been on SSI since 1974.
It's a TAX FREE GRAVY TRAIN, and in the Bum World they have PhD's for 'Swindling and Milking the System'.
I have absolute faith, and no doubt at all, that SSI will cause Social Security Retirement to go flat broke by 2012, after the Amnesty or whatever they are calling it today.
Better do like me, plan to live in a Cobb House on a little plot of land, growing your own food and living very low, as the SSI's are going to have drained the life out of Social Security at the pace they are now.
My wife and I spent $500 on our wedding. The best part? We had complete control.
Please, please, please do not ask for money in lieu of gifts. And do not ask for gifts. And do not send a registry list with the invitations. This is considered extremely tacky.
One of the previous posters is correct, the world is made up of 90% grasshoppers. It really irks me that I'm going to have to pay for the real estate mistakes of these fools. Anyone who gets government help for this real estate mess, should have to do 8 hours a week of government service for 4-5 months. Maybe then they will learn their lesson.
I made a mistake in my Tax Return. I wrote an incorrect Social Securety Number for my dependent child. How Can I fix it? I already receive my Tax Rebate but not for my child.
The idea of not spending on what we spend now, and the resulting changes to our economy, is interesting to compare with peacetime vs. wartime economy. How would the economy shift if we really invested in peace-making technology, products and services (worldwide) such as those related to education, instead of war-making technology, products and services? There would be a shift, probably a painful adjustment period, but in the long term a better world - just like in a frugal economy. I think they go hand in hand.
I wish everyonehad clean habits. Last week at work, I heard a guy in the stall having 'major troubles.' As I was washing my hands, I saw him exit the stall, check himself out in the mirror, lick his finger (not kidding) and wipe it over his eyebrow and then walk out. Now I know why Howie Mandell or Trump don't shake hands.
Since we've started using flushable wipes our TP use has gone way down.
My daughter and I are both folders and neither of us seem to suffer from wet hand
I just found out that because I put in my wife's married name and not her maiden name (could not change it with Social Security Administration due to visa issues) that we won't be getting anything. Even though I called to correct it for my federal refund, the stimulus check is based off your original return and not your corrected return.
Great post. I also disagree with buying the store brand, it is rough like sand paper. I am super frugal, just not a masochist. :) We purchase the deluxe soft double rolls and we have flushable wipes ready and available as well. My wife and kids (twin girls) use 1 square for #1, and a wipe for #2. I use either 2 squares for #2 or a wipe. The thickness and softness of the paper keeps our bottoms clean and soft. I never worry about getting my hands dirty, that is what washing up afterwards is for.
I do however catch flack with the un-initiated, like my mother, who visits and seems to use a whole roll for #1. :( But then again, she had an outhouse while growing up.

women, please use white tissue: colored tissue can irritate our sensitive spots and give us infections. on my way...

My husband uses a lot more TP than me because he is a bit OCD and wipes a lot. I tend to use less squares when the TP is 2 ply so I just get those.
Many baby wipes have a "do not flush" symbol on them. There is at least one brand of kids wipes that is flushable, it has a green frog on the logo.
DAS WHACK i be shoppin up at dat food fo less. das be some good eatins yo dawg u shouldnt be trippin try dat method 2 that works miricalse ya digg

Whoa.
Don't forget that you can also soothe a sunburn with oatmeal. An oatmeal bath is soothing for all sorts of skin conditions.
