I've been doing usability testing professionally for about 10 years so I thought I'd sign up for this when I heard about it here. Interestingly enough, the recording software they provide doesn't work with my computer. I have one sound card but front and rear mic/headset ports, but it detected FOUR sound cards or some such thing - and wouldn't record. They tried to help troubleshoot it but I never got to make a recording to move the process forward. I have no idea what was going on - never have to unplug my speakers at the rear to use the mic in the front before, but I tried every permutation of ports and devices, and a number of different headsets and mics (I do a ton of audio recording and editing and have never had a problem like this). They even sent me some secondary app to try and that recorded fine so it was definitely something wonky with the application. Anyway, its a bummer - I was excited when I heard about this service and was looking forward to it but they had to give up trying. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one to have technical issues.
Eating out does not save money over making food from scratch. I make pizzas and burgers for my family for around $3, less than the dollar menu and less than using pizza coupons. I've looked into pizza coupons and usually you have to pair a deal with a regularly priced pizza, which makes the deal void.
Having been in an unfortunate situation where I was lucky to have food a couple of times a week for a couple of months...I can state for a fact than when there is a significant food shortage, 1000 cal/day is a *feast*. Most people in the US only *think* they know what hungry is...and how much food they need. Perception & reality can be very different things.
After being with the same bank for years and having my money put in someone else's account a few times and my bank trying to charge me over drafts I tried a netspend card its great I have direct deposit on it. email is sent to me when money is applied. It's great and I don't have to have extra fees from my bank. I still have my bank account but have saved alot of money with this card I love it.

I'm SO in for this idea. But one thing has boggled my mind for months now - and how to combat it? We get these emails with fantastic coupons - which we have to *print out* and take to store. If we're all interested in saving paper, why are there so many "print your own" coupons. I don't want to waste a whole sheet of paper to print off one coupon; I don't want to waste ink! I tried taking a photo on my camera phone of an 'invitation' to a family-and-friends sale, 25% off, but they wouldn't accept that. Okay, I'm able to print off (reluctantly) but I'm wasting paper and ink, and I also think of others who perhaps don't have the money to buy more ink, or don't have a working printer, and they're denied the discount. This BURNS ME UP.
That monitor was intended for the Amiga. The old NTSC video games have only 320 pixels of data, but the monitor does 640, so the shadow mask must have more detail.
I definitely don't proclaim to be a financial expert. However, I've learned how to manage my finances the hard way. Hopefully this article will inspire those that have also made mistakes to turn their finances around. It's easy to say, "Don't make bad choices to begin with." But, sometimes people do make bad decisions and they need to know that all is not lost.
I'm sorry if my article offended you. We all can't be perfect!
Post Christmas shopping is so much fun. Last year I snagged great bargains at Ulta, Kohls, Hallmark and TJMaxx but the best of the best was at Target. If you're lucky, you can get "seasonal" merchandise for really really cheap. Last year I went crazy buying plain white gift boxes, tissue paper, wrapping paper and bags of bows at 90% off.
WELL, MARCIA, ITS NOT OUR FAULT IF OUR HOUSES WENT UPSIDE WITH THIS WALL STREE CRAP. THAT IS SATANS ADDRESS, WALL STREET. YOU SOUND VERY CRITICAL, TELLING THAT PERSON THAT SHE IS PARTLY AT FAULT WHEN SHE ISNT. SHE TOLD YOU DETAILS, DIDNT SHE? I HAVE BEEN LIVING IN THIS TOWNHOME FOR OVER 15 YEARS AND MY PLACE IS UPSIDE DOWN AND I BORROWED ON IT TO FIX UP THE REPAIRS AND REMODEL THE KITCHEN. SO WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT? I AM NOT A MINDREADER! I CANT FORESEE THE FUTURE. NO YOU WERE DEFINITELY WRONG WHEN YOU TOLD THAT PERSON THAT IT WAS PARTLY "HER FAULT". AND IF NEED BE, I WILL DECLARE BK AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT WILL KEEP MY SANITY IN PLACE. IM NOT GOING TO LOSE SLEEP OVER THIS SITUATION. WE HAVE A GREAT PRESIDENT AND HE WILL HELP ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.
I bought Enfamil Lipil and the BJ's brand...the ingredients were IDENTICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I decided to use this with my second child. If the ingredients are identical...then they are the same :) Enjoy the fact that after the rights to a product run out other makers can copy it......I have had Pediatricians, nutritionists and an OB tell me this was perfectly fine. We stress over named brand everything too much.
My family has done well with the Target post-Christmas holiday toy mark down. It's not as good as it used to be, but it's still possible get to some Lego sets and other cool, classic toys (for kids of all ages) at lower than normal prices.
In the early 2000's, my mom hit the jackpot getting two big Lego train sets (including the track, engine and two cars) and the (then) big Millennium Falcon sets for 75% off. I got one of the trains and the Falcon. This year, my oldest nephew was finally deemed old enough to get the other train. We put it together this morning and he LOVES it.
You can also get a Commodore 1084S monitor and other nostalgic gaming items from www.oldsoftware.com. I have made many purchases from them over the years.
I don't argue that the government is allowing these for our benefit, we all know it's to generate tax revenue for them - but so what...if it makes sense for some financially, then take advantage of it. win/win.
I do not suggest that a Roth conversion is beneficial for everyone or even that it be something everyone should do.
At the very least, I suggest running some numbers and making an informed decision whether this is right for your situation.
And it's the same recommendation that goes out to all these self-professed personal finance experts (who got themselves into a bad financial situation) posting garbage like this.
The best way not to get into financial or credit problems is to not put yourself in the situation to begin with.
How about this - don't charge more than you can payoff at the end of each month, pay your bills on time, use credit judiciously? If you can't afford something that means you don't buy it. What's so difficult?
Hard to believe articles like this warrant a place on a website.
Most people who post on the subject of Roth and conversions to Roth have been brainwashed and are lemmings being spoon fed a bunch of garbage.
The government wants you to believe Roth is so wonderful and is making it so easy for everyone to convert for one reason and only one reason - they cannot stand the fact that there is all of this traditional IRA and 401k money out there that they cannot get their hands on. Our country is running massive deficits like never before, the Treasury is printing up money like there's no tomorrow, and here's all this money stashed away for the past 25 or 30 years that's never been taxed and may not be taxed for another 20 years more.
You are being urged to convert because they want your tax dollars today. If you believe that the government is doing this for your personal benefit, think again.
For the vast majority of people with money stashed in a 401k or traditional IRA, they will be better off just leaving the money there as all of the reasons it was put there in the first place still hold.
The point made in this article that if you've been laid off or are out of work and because your income is now lower, converting may make more sense is also hogwash. Where is the money going to come from to pay the taxes when the conversion is done? That unemployed person has little/no income and isn't getting any usage out of the converted funds - lest you think it's a good idea to pay the taxes out of the money being converted? Hey - by the same token, maybe you want to make the argument that since the economy and markets are down, and most people's retirement funds have not recovered and are still down a fair amount of money, it likewise is a good time to convert - because there will be less taxes to pay because you have less money?
Don't be brainwashed. Roth conversion is not a good idea for most people. It makes sense only to those who will be taking a chunk of your money NOW.
Yeah, I gave bread this year. I make HUGE loaves in the pans they sell at Walmart for $9.95. The loaves uses 6 cups of flower and I get about two and a half loaves per $2.24 bag of bread flour. No kneading is involved.
Basic bread:
6 C flour
3 t salt
1/2 t yeast
3 T sugar
1 1/2 C water
You are spending about a dollar per HUGE loaf, and people think you are a magician!
You CAN make great bread. Check out Breadtopia.com for an easy video.
Love the comment about the bread and about the consumables.
Whenever I think about the whole "spend time, not money" thing, to me it means more of just what it says--spending time.
Not that I have to throw in a skill or a tlaent or a favor--just time.
For family, I think my parents would love it if we visited them one extra time per year (trips to my parents' house really cost nothing).
With my son, it is more of a commitment to myself to spend more time with my son. its a gift he doesn't really know he's getting, but I know he will love and cherish.

Lots of old video and arcade games have a new life on the cheap toy isle, and as stand alone games.

Anyone have an idea how to un-lock this DVD player?

For comparison, VGA has 640 x 480.
Interesting topic. i'll have to see what type of rig i can put together.

Why in the world was this NOT posted BEFORE Christmas morning?
Great tips. I will see which one works best for some of my old cd's.
Thanks.
