    Hey Little House! =)

I'd like to add that make sure you get a basket or saddle bag that really suits you! I got this super cute saddle bag with polka dots, love it, BUT you have to fasten and unfasten it on each time you take it off the rack. It was a major time sucker for me, so I ended up tying the basket I have with zip straps to the rack.

So I have a saddle bag that's just sitting there, looking pretty. I am hoping to sell it on craigslist or something and then get another saddle bag that has a snap-on attachment to the rack.

    Great post!

  • $6500 repair bill to remove a stone from a moon roof   15 years 36 weeks ago

It's not the service advisor's fault, he's not a technician and all he can do is convey the diagnosis to the customer and use his experience on similar complaints. Just about any sunroof problem will require a complete system replacement since Mercedes-Benz does not supply individual parts (with very few exemptions). I've been taking my car to this dealership for over 15 years and I developed a comfortable business relationship with most of the people in the service area. I know that the technician who missed the stone is supposedly the #1 Mercedes tech in Canada, I also know that he no longer works there (was practically forced out) because he wasn't able to impress the new management. I noticed a big change during the last two years in both, the quality of the repairs and the management style. Someone else is running the shop (and doing a great job) and the new service manager is a lady who takes her job seriously. I'm quite pleased with the improvements but I still make sure that I research well before taking my car in for service or repairs, not because I don't trust them but because mistakes do happen. The technician was arrogant and careless, I guess this case proves that some people are just book smart; both the service advisor and the customer should have received an apology from him.

Bicycling for my commute to work has been a great experience. More exercise. Less cost for gas money. And a great way to get rid of quite a bit of stress.

    Some of my suggestions ...

For planning trips, Google Maps has a "bicycle" button, in the upper left, that toggles on suggested bicycle paths directions. Along with; "car", "mass transit", and on "foot".

Bike helmet, while it's unlikely you'll hit your head while riding your bike, the chances it will happen some day go up the more you bike. If you get thrown off you bike in an accident, it's not as if you have much of a choice if your skull is going to avoid that random rock, or chunk of concrete on the ground.

Lights for front and back, they don't seem to really help me see any better. But, it sure does help making it easier for others to notice you. Like the other posters have mentioned; fog, under the shadow of tress, as well as an underpass free way, even at night.

The upgrade ability of a bike. You can start out simple. And gradually add more components to your bike to suit your needs as you ride more and more.

  • netSpend: The Story of the Visa Debit Card We Did Not Apply For   15 years 36 weeks ago

If anyone thinks that netspend is a fraud you are all wrong. It is a pre paid debit card... you can't apply for it. These cards are sold at a lot of check cashing places and even amcott used to use them before they came out with their own type of pre paid debit card. Believe or not you are safer to have a pre paid debit card rather than a back account. With this card people can't screw up your financial history! It's pre paid not a credit card! I have a regular bank account but I have this for online purchases so that people can't wipe my bank account. I only put money on it only when I buy online.

BTW if anyone did their reseach on the company you would know that it's not fraud. Also, please tell me how a pre paid debit card would be a fraud? In what ways would they screw you over? They are just like any other company... they want to make money just like you.

Another thing that is funny is that I worked telemarketing when I was in college and people fall for more fraud **** over the phone with a cold call rather than on their own. Done hate telemarketers, people that get ripped off by them are suckers.

My downfall is the Carmel Frappé at Micky D's. Sometimes 2 a day. Little pleasures in life make you satisfied all your other good stewardship is not for nothing. But balance in life is always best. Even when your out of balance because your on a sugar or caffeine high.

I give you credit for being so dedicated! What you are doing is good on so many levels. I wish my city was more bike-friendly. I am incredibly limited in where I can ride my bike unfortunately.

I do need to look into getting a basket or something for my bike. There is a market I can safely ride my bike to via sidestreets, and I have been thinking about doing that for some time. Thank you for the motivation!

    Great post.

  • Only Celebrate A Few Select Birthdays   15 years 36 weeks ago

Last birthday celebrated was 22 in college. (But, college birthdays are so much fun!) I still go out for dinner or drinks with my family/close friends. Generally, it's a rule in my circle of friends that we split the cost for the birthday girl/boy's dinner- no present needed.

I have two coworkers who have been seriously injured riding their bikes to work - the last one just last week when he was hit by a car making a right turn at an intersection.

I used to be a serious mountain biker that also dabbled with long-distance street rides. While I was never worried while I was in the hills, I was always nervous riding on the roads. Many car drivers just don't pay attention - or worse - respect the bikers' rights to be on the road.

My best advice when riding on busy streets: wear as much fluorescent green, yellow or orange as you can. It won't meet anybody's definition of sartorial splendor, but it may get a driver's attention - if only for a second. And that might save your life.

    Best,

GReat post-I also have a credit card which offers gift cards @ chili's, target, lowes, and many other stores for rewards points. It's great for us as we pay off our bill monthly and use the gift cards for items we would have purchased anyway.

  • How to Get Laid Off: A Step-By-Step Guide   15 years 36 weeks ago

I agree. As much as I want to be a jerk at work I do have self respect. However, my job has to be the best paying and worst ethically in my area. The funny thing is no one 'knows' what the company really does until you are far into it and then you are stuck. Payday loans and porn marketing. Yea. I would not have APPLIED there if I had known. I can't afford to quit yet it is making me sick to stay. I am not a conservative religious person but I do have standards. If I wanted to market porn I would work for Vivid.

I would give anything t get out and it does nto help when the head of HR is your boss. So many unethical business practices. Thank them for spam text messages...

Unstable with people being let go left and right and everyone walks around with clone smiles on their faces ignoring the huge fat elephant in the room and patting their fat wallets.
    Makes me ill. SOS.

  • Remove Car Dents Quickly and Cheaply   15 years 36 weeks ago

The other night while driving home from the bar I accidently bumped into a bicyclist. I was able to wash the blood from my car before the paint became damaged but now I have to figure out the most economical way to fix a couple of head sized dents, one on my hood and one on the roof. I guess it was good for the cyclist that they were wearing a helmet but I can’t help but think that a bare head would have done less damage. Would this method work for this?

  • Cashflow: The Board Game That Will Teach You To Be Rich, If You Can Afford It.   15 years 36 weeks ago

i stumbled upon this blog by searching agricola and other economy games. i've played puerto rico and agricola. maybe i'll buy le havre and caylus. then i click another interesting link to this post.

i've played the 101 version (my friends bought it) and 202 and other version in pc (my friend decided just too download it :P). the game wasn't that hard, my first time played 101, got out in rat race 7 turns. my second time, took me just 3 turns. now the 202 version in pc are much more a little bit complex, but it wasn't hard either as long as you know how to play.

i agree that the game have minimized the risk very much (apart from the real life) but that's just a game.

    btw, very nice blog. :)

Lights and more lights! Notice how many cars now run during the daytime with headlights on? Ride a bike with headlights - and turn them to flash. This makes you significantly more visible. It also helps a great deal with pedestrians. Many bikers ride with multiple lights flashing.

Also, you will see bikers generally wear day-glo yellow jackets and shirts. Good idea.

Safe routes is big! Get on a bike path and off the road if you can.

Unfortunately commuting traffic culture has become "Us versus them" with some car drivers treating bikes like illegal aliens. While this may be only a small percentage - it is a present and dangerous percentage. (1) Make yourself as visible as you can (2) assume that car drivers dont see you or dont care about you and (3) ride where there is physical separation between you and the cars - on a bike path or other places.

There is nothing better than, after a long day at work, looking forward to a wonderful bike ride home. Its a great day to finish the work day and you get home having cleansed yourself of the stress of the day.

  • When Should You Fire Your Real Estate Agent?   15 years 36 weeks ago

What do I do if I obtained an agent and during doing a contract with him to sell my house, he said if you want to void this contract at anytime you can do so, I understand what you've been through. Now I wrote a letter to void the contract and he won't. But he only showed my home to three people in one month and never returns my calls when I have a question. Also I wanted a lockbox and he never put one on, I wanted other agents to have easy access as he hardly ever answers his phone. So how caould another agent show my hone. what do I do now he won't let me cancel?

Biking to the train station would be a fantastic start! I'd be interested in knowing, myself, if there is a way to bike from NJ to NY somehow bypassing the tunnel. Anyone?

  • A Guide to Becoming a Part-Time Bicycle Commuter   15 years 36 weeks ago

Terrific addition regarding the bus! Many trains also have bike racks in them if a train is an option. For long commutes, using public transpo. in addition to a bike can be a great alternative. Thanks again!

Wow I love the idea of that app! I can't wait to get it, but I have an iphone so I'll have to wait a bit longer. It drives me crazy when I see people driving and texting or talking on the phone. I would love to see the text that is worth risking your life and the lives of other drivers.

  • Quickly Remove Scratches From CDs and DVDs   15 years 36 weeks ago

    Bill Morrow
I use a machine designed for resurfacing cd's and dvd's etc. back to original condition. Cracked disks or tears and scratches on the label side cannot be repaired. Scratches on the opposite side are removed by removing a thin layer of plastic. Deeper scratches may require you to remove several layers. Cd's are thicker [more plastic]than dvd's where I can resurface cd's 8 times and dvd's 3 times safely. My machine uses 500 then 1000 grit sandpaper and finally a liquid paste to reshine the plastic [side] surface. The process is very similiar to what Sean Mccarthy discribes only better because it's fool proof. I bought this machine to use as a business for fixing scratched disks in 2007. It always works. Check out www.jfjeasypro.com and see for yourself why I'm a happy customer. This solution is not for everyone [because the machine is pricey], but if you have a sizeable investment or don't want to yell at the kids...here's another option. I have no financial interest in jfjeasypro's business beyond that of a satisfied customer.
