Bobbie,
It sounds like you need a bank that does instant capture with the online account info. I found out that not all banks do this. They delay posting this information online. No wonder some people do know what a memo transaction is.
To All,
If your bank does not charge you for pin transactions, use that.
Not all banks charge you for pin transactions.
As far as protection goes
For debit card with 2 business days the loss is $50.00
2 to 60 business days the loss is $500.00
60 or more business days all the money plus any overdraft.
Both MasterCard and Visa has extended there zero liability to their debit cards. If you need to claim this. You will need to request a special form from your bank. This does not apply to pin transactions. (However, I think visa interlink may be covered under this but you would have to prove it went through this network).
Regulation E requires banks to give provisional credit within 10 business day of a written dispute. They have 45 days (90 days international) to investigate
Technically it is the 11th business day (even if the bank credits you on the 10th business day, you won't be able to use tell the 11th business day.)
Another rule that is sometimes overlooked is this
for unauthorized transfers involving only your debit card number (not the loss of the card), you are liable only for transfers that occur after 60 days following the mailing of your bank statement containing the unauthorized use and before you report the loss.
For that rule above it does not matter if your card was used as a pin or a signature transaction.
In my last article regarding green tea, I didn't mention that I drink the green tea w/o sugar. Once you try it a few times you will get used to it.

I know that I'm way late with my comment. This morning I was reading an article from Prevention magazine regarding lowering your blood sugar level. Of course when you click the link they want you to purchase their book on how to lower your blood sugar level.
I do not have high blood pressure, my fiance's brothers and sister does and I fear that he will be next. Especially because of the size of his stomach. All of his siblings are on medications also.
I became interested in lowering your blood sugar because the article stated loose weight by lowering your blood sugar level. I am about 5'4 currently 170lbs. I've been over weight for two years now. Earlier this year I was drinking green tea because I love it, however, I did notice that I was loosing weight 10lbs. That was the only thing different that I changed in my diet. I love green tea, so I do believe there is some truth/benefit to drinking green tea and weightloss.
Also, I wanted to make a comment that if drinking green tea is not lowering your blood sugar level, it's possible that you're still eating things that keeping it elevated. I haven't drank as much green tea as I had been and I can tell that I have every inch of that 10lbs back. I was not exercising either. I was drinking the tea and watching what I was consuming.
Right now I'm all about going natural. People don't realize the benefit of exercise and weight loss. I can tell you from my own experience. I'm 48 years old, over the past few years (when the weight gain started) I now have asthma (taking Advair daily when I want to), acid reflux, muscle aches/pains, brain fuzzy, can't concentrate at work just all kinds of things going on and I'm sick of taking prescribed meds. It's to the point I don't get the script.
I do have a friend who was on anxiety, high blood pressure meds, depression meds and a few other things. She told me she read Kevin Trudo's(sorry if the name is spelled wrong) book, she went cold turkey off all of her meds started eating more natural foods and supplements for her blood pressure, etc. She's been without prescribed meds for 3 years now. Yes, she said she was scared but she took a chance. The prescribed meds was only causing more problems. Of course her doctor wasn't too happy.
We really don't read the side effects from the medications we take. Then we go to the doctor we get medication for the side effects we get from the other meds. It's a vicious cycle.
One more thing, I love Martini's and any other sweet drinks it will cause weightgain.
Well done on your new venture, no point in being shy about these things, if you've done your homework, have the drive to be excited about it and win at it, then this is the best time.
A lot of businesses have gone to the wall during these time because they weren't properly prepared for a downturn and couldn't meet their liabilities. With so many competitors gone, and then coming in with a clean slate, you've definitely got the advantage. My thinking is you would have been at much higher risk if you began during the boom and your competitors were strong and flush with cash.
Personally my business is booming at the same time many similar businesses are crashing
I'm not sure it's a matter of trust. I'm confident that the people at the Fed know how to stop an inflation--Volker provided a solid example in the early 1980s. What I'm doubtful about is not their ability, it's their guts. It takes more than most Fed governers have to put the country through a tough recession just to grind out inflation--and it'll be all the tougher after we've just been through the worst recession since the Great Depression.
There are a couple of reasons that I'm optimistic, though.
One is that we're only one generation away from people who saw what inflation rates over 10% do to the economy. In the 1950s and 1960s it was easy to imagine that one more percentage point of inflation wouldn't be as bad as one more percentage point of unemployment. But the 1970s showed us that all making that tradeoff gave us was inflation and unemployment. I don't think it's been so long that policy-makers will have forgotten that lesson.
The other is that inflation is really tough on people who have money. (It's tough on other people too--people with fixed incomes, for example--but it's most particularly tough on people with money.) People with money, though, tend to have influence in the government. Many other groups lack political power; if there's an economic situation that's tough for people who are (as a few examples) broke or have a private pension or make their living fishing, it's tough for them to bring much influence to bear--they're too few and too disorganized and just generally lacking in influence. People with money, though, tend to have influence. If there an economic situation that hurts them--such as a high inflation rate--they have the political power to get things fixed.
Agree with Jane Ramona above, random acts of kindness can yield a lot. I have a neighbor lady down the hall in my building who lives alone and is over 80 years old. She is in good enough health but of course pretty slow and has trouble doing some simple little things. When I moved into the building I was going back and forth in the hall moving boxes in and she asked me if I could move something in her apartment for her. Since then I have become her goto guy for little tasks like lifting heavy objects, helping her with her TV when she messes up some setting, etc. Probably not more than a couple times a week for like 5 minutes each time. But she constantly cooks food for me now. At least a few times a week she'll give me a dish of whatever she was cooking that day. She's a good cook and since I can't cook worth my life it's nice, otherwise I typically eat out.
The best way to get out of credit card debt is to stop using credit cards. And the behavior of certain credit cards lately is appalling, so that gives you even more incentive to boycott them...and the stores associated with the cards. More than one of my store credit cards raised my interest rate and CHANGED MY DUE DATE without informing me! When I called them on it, they said they sent out a notice. Yeah right!
I imagine thousands or perhaps millions of those notices were "lost in the mail." It wasn't lost, because they never sent it! Anyway, I just got another statement from them, and my minimum amount has gone up again! I talked to two different people, and they couldn't give me a reasonable explanation as to why my minimum payment went up again. This time it went up by $1.50. Again, just like those other cards, they were hoping I wouldn't notice that small amount, and that I wouldn't change the amount on my automatic bill pay. They were hoping my payment would be $1.50 short so that they could charge late fees and increase the interest rate even higher.
I haven't used any of my credit cards since last fall, and I am slowly making a dent in the balances. I am determined to get them all paid off, and I will never, ever, ever use a credit card again as long as I live! I've done what Dave Ramsey, Suze Ormond, and many other experts advise. I have built up a "safety net" account to cover any emergencies, such as car problems. Now I have no excuse to use a credit card! I've got money stashed away in case the water heater breaks, or in case the dog needs shots. I don't have all the balances paid off yet, but, as far as I'm concerned, I'm free! I no longer NEED credit cards! I'll never need them again, and I'll never want them again!
Last year I learned that our Black & Decker cordless mower had been recalled for something that could cause the motor to catch on fire. Our mower wasn't working at the time because one of the batteries had burst. In talking with a Black & Decker rep we were told that the motor problem might have been responsibility for the burst battery. We sent the mower in at their expense and after many weeks went by we got a postcard saying that we owed a a few hundred dollars for replacement of the batteries and for shipping the mower back! Ack! After a very unsatisfactory telephone conversation all we could get out of them was to drop the shipping charges, and we opted to find new batteries on our own. We were dismayed to find that Black & Decker had not reassembled the mower, some of the parts were broken, and a plastic key that is necessary for the motor to start was missing. And we aren't even sure they fixed the motor problem! So although we managed to find batteries for much less than what Black & Decker was charging, and managed to jury-rig them into the mower despite the broken parts, we can't start the mower without that missing piece. I wish Black & Decker were as helpful as Target and other toy sellers!
As long as bank physical assets are not questioned or required for debt settlement, the problem will be pushed down the road.
As the government allows bank assets to re-inflate through the continuation of speculation... derivative swaps and leveraged trading in commodities (for instance), the bubble will grow again.
As banks buy distressed assets at bargain prices, and as long as the federal government guarantees these purchases, there will be no spikes.
How long can this continue?
Probably another year. Then hyper inflation, or devaluation. Same thing.
As long as money rules, government is impotent.
Suspicion is that government is complicit.
Hey, if low wages isn't enough of a reason to boycott Target, I've got another reason to boycott them. Target Visa Credit Cards are ripping off their customers!
I always pay more than the minimum amount due, and I have automatic bill-pay, so it's always on time, but I noticed that the minimun amount had gone up last month. When I called to point out their mistake, I was informed that they raised my interest rates! They "claim" they mailed out notices in February, but--as an avid Clark Howard fan--if I had recieved a notice, I would have closed my account in order to keep the lower interest rate. If they had "played by the book," I would have stopped using the credit card, but I wouldn't have wanted to boycott Target. Since they didn't play by the book, I just started my own personal boycott. Today, however, my minimum payment went up AGAIN, and the two people I spoke to can't explain to me why it went up. My theory is that they raised the amount by $1.50 this month, hoping that people wouldn't notice the small change. They hoped that those of us who are on automatic billpay would be $1.50 short in our payments so that they can levy all kinds of late-payment fees on us, and then have an excuse to raise the interest rates even higher! I haven't purchased anything, so my minimum balance should have gone down! Now, my boycott is no longer just between me and Target. NOW, I'm taking this nationwide. I'm determined to get as many people on my Boycott Target Campaign as possible. If Target has mistreated YOU, your friends, or family in any way, I urge you in joining this boycott.
I have 2 questions for you:
1) Does it still work (although loud)? You paid $500+ for a vacuum that doesn't lose suction, not one that was quiet. If it still works while making the noise I don't see how all this is realted.
2) Have you priced out getting it fixed? If the air conditioner in my car starts to make a noise, I don't get rid of the car; I get it fixed.
I find your expectation that paying more for something means it will work perfectly forever to be a bit strange. I expect my dyson to last for a very very long time (4 years and counting), but I expect to have to maintain it during that time as well. Sometimes that means getting it serviced for small problems.
But your description makes it sound as though the vacuum still performs its basic functions (sucking stuff up); if that is the case I really think you are overreacting in an unfortunately public way.
Really, my biggest problem with this whole thing is that you posted on a fairly well-read site about your experience with a company not fixing a product under warranty that wasn't under warranty any longer. Thinking they would is unreasonable.
The outcome you expect from all this insanity depends on whether or not you trust in the pinheads at the FED. And whether you believe they have the smarts to pull of the biggest magic trick ever.
Sorry to hear about your experience; I have the same model and have had it for over 6 years...it's the best! You MUST have gotten a lemon...although I guess it worked for over 2 years?
Living in a former co op turned condo, I had noticed many usable items which were placed by (and not in) the dumpster. These items were furniture, lamps, and so on. The family who lives downstairs from me needed furniture. I was able to find a solid wood table and wooden chairs. Since they did not have a diningroom set, they repayed me with their delicious homemade Asian Indian food. I have also donated usable items in good condition to local charities, which was a tax writeoff. It's the little things which count. Do random acts of kindness.
I also received one of these cards unsolicited in the mail. I did not apply for this card; but I did apply for and use a Western Union debit card. I needed a card that would be safe to travel outside of the country; but still have access at any ATM. As long as you use these cards sensibly, they seem to do the job they are intended for. You can't load thousands of dollars onto them, so you don't have to worry about over-spending or loosing a ton of money if they are mis-placed. BTW, the fees charged are well below any interest rate charged for using a credit card! I don't defend the fact that the cards are sent out unsolicited; but I do defend the need to utilize their services, which are sensible and reasonable.
Wall street executives get actual bonuses based on profits on paper. Let's say that they bought a stick that increased a lot. But they didn't sell it. But they still got bonuses (actual money) based on profits on paper. Now, if the stock falls then the profits gets wiped out but the executive still has the money.
This is not fair at all. Either he should return the money or he should get bonus only on actual and real hard cash profits (that is, they need to sell the stocks at a profit). If this was done from the beginning then we wouldn't have seen the financial crisis like this because no one would have bought sub-prime so much (packaged in exotic investment vehicles). To get bonuses, they would have had to show real profits from sub-prime and then they wouldn't have bought so much sub-prime.
We have a new Chaplain at our race horse track at Arapahoe Race Track in Aurora, Colorado.
We desperately need a trailer (5th wheel or bumper pull) to park at the race track beside our chapel for him to live in during the race meet. Our race meet will be over Aug.9, 2009. Our chaplaincy council has no money at this time to buy or rent a trailer. We are hoping God will lay the desire upon someone's heart to help us out. We have an older single wide mobile home that has been renovated as our chapel. There is a small room and bathroom he has been staying in, which has not been sufficient for him. Please can anyone help us? Thank you...
God Bless You,
Janice
The magnitude of the change in the monetary base this year is off the charts at over 110%. How can you reasonably correlate CPI-inflation-to-monetary-base changes in the mid-1980s when that change was in the range of only 10% to 15%?
I don't think you reasonably can.
And Chris is right. The M3 indicator is the real key to predicting inflationary pressures -- not M2.
The fact is inflation is a friend to all debtors and the current administration's own budget projects an additional $10-TRILLION in debt being racked up by 2015. The only politically viable solution, short of taxing everybody into oblivion, is a tacit devaluation of the dollar via inflation. The Obama Administration understands this, as does the Fed.
You can deny it all you want, but inflation is coming -- and, as I've been preaching on my blog, you better prepare for it.
It's true that a happy outcome from the current situation is unlikely. In fact, I've written a post on what I see as the most likely outcome--an extreme version of the stagflation of the 1970s: Stag-hyperinflation.
The thing is, though, it is possible to come out of this situation reasonably okay--and, in fact, the Fed hasn't screwed up too badly so far. Even as inflation rates were soaring a year ago, the Fed correctly forecast that the recession and the financial panic posed a greater threat of deflation, and moved to counter that--and so far successfully. But now comes the tricky part--escaping without producing a hyperinflation. It's possible (although it will probably result in a double-dip recession), but screwing up will mean the worst of all possible worlds.
I agree that it could make identity theft a little easier, and how the hell wants to do that?! They also wanted my S.S. number!!!!!!! That makes identity theft A LOT MORE EASIER!!!! Itold the rep., thanbks but no thanks, and the rep., wouldn't give me her S.S.? I would why? LMAO
A waste of money. I was laid off and I've been able to manage until now with unemployment, savings and I had a roommate. Things changed since then and I had to try and activate the insurance to get some help because I still haven't found a job. They won't cover me because they say I lost my job 6 months ago. My point is instead of taking advantage and using the insurance right away, I tried to be responsible and continue to make payments as long as I could. In the end it cost me to be nice. I will never get insurance again!
This book looks great! I love reading about successful people and successful companies, and seeing how they made it!

Well done to you - follow your dreams!
@ Kelja:
I do not trust or believe in them.
Just buy gold and protect your family.
and it's not 6/15/09 yet
God Bless You,
Janice
Interesting observations, but...

I will never get insurance again!
is part of the problem.
And 3.5% down is still too little skin in the game.
Even for those buying in California (where you can walk with no deficiency judgment)
"they drained the excess reserves"
You're making the assumption that there is the political will to deflate (credit drops, unemployment increases).
I very much doubt that.
Inflation even at 1970s levels is preferable to politicians who want to get re-elected.
So we might get back to 5% unemployment, but see 30 year mortgage rates of 15%.
