That's such a good idea to use a Groupon in the city you're going to visit.... hadn't thought about that idea before. Very smart!

Just joined and it seems great. I, too, wish I could merge it with my Mint account. But, I'm always appreciative of new tools! Thank you!

  • netSpend: The Story of the Visa Debit Card We Did Not Apply For   14 years 1 week ago

I just got one at my address, but it wasn't for us. When I called to say that the other party would not be receiving their card, they were confused and couldn't seem to figure out what I was asking. So I'm shredding the card.

  • 6 Things in Your Kitchen That Get Rid of Bad Smells Naturally   14 years 1 week ago

Fresh parsley will get strong garlic/onion smells off your hands, pull off a piece and rub it all over them, then wash with soap and water. Another way is to rub your hands over your taps(faucets for Americans) if they're stainless steel, works in the same way those steel "soaps" do.

It'll also kill garlicky breath if you chew it, but so will other things without leaving greenery in your teeth.

I know that I share this one, like, every time, but the best gift I ever got was a packet of car wash certificates. I never wash my car, because I always balk at the cost, but when I had those certificates, I had the cleanest car on my block. Well, for a couple of months, anyway.

  • netSpend: The Story of the Visa Debit Card We Did Not Apply For   14 years 1 week ago

I've had a Netspend card for years now... no problems yet. It works better than a bank issued debit in that there is no personal info attached to it, and theives can only steal what's loaded (which hasn't happened as of yet)... so it's actually safer online. So their blanket-marketing awakens the conspiracy theorist in you - so be it. When birds land on your lawn are they then trespassers that need punished as well? Wow......

  • 25 Breakfast-For-Dinner Meals   14 years 1 week ago

Great list Girl!!! I also can fall back on this list for quick meals when friends pop over as most items are on hand & are easy to make. (hint; most stores now sale individual single serving cups of jalopenos to add to the above while camping or at home without opening a large jar) yummy!!!

I don't know...if someone were to get me kitchen supplies or exercise equipment I might well be insulted. I would be careful with those, especially husbands! :)
I think the hardest thing about picking out a gift is remembering what the person likes, not what YOU like, right? I like to get people nifty new things where they say "What does this do?" and you show them and they are like, "That's so cool!" and show it to everyone else.

My favorite breakfast for dinner when I was growing up was pancakes. But then again, pancakes are one of my favorite meals in general. =)

I try and keep my vehicle well-maintained, tires inflated, and I don't speed or do quick starts or stops.

  • 25 Breakfast-For-Dinner Meals   14 years 1 week ago

As a kid I always loved when my parents would make breakfast for dinner. It was quick and easy for my mom, who had been at work all day, and delicious and satisfying enough so we kids wouldn't even think about complaining about the meal. While simple eggs and bacon may not be sufficient dinner meals, this list is full of awesome ideas for supper. French toast, breakfast burritos, quiche, and smoked salmon with bagels all sound like awesome dinner ideas to me!

A lot of these are really good gift ideas especially the ones that are helpful to those close to you. Cleaning for someone, getting their car detailed, and babysitting are all awesome things that would certainly make the receive-ee appreciate your thoughtfulness and willingness to help them out with something. The gifts that keep on giving - classes, magazine subscriptions, a new coffee maker, etc.- are all awesome things to give a good friend. Hey, maybe they'll even invite you to join in on the class with them, and experience you can sure together!

    Wonderful idea for a list!

My favorite type of gift is something consumable. It can be anything: bubble bath, perfume, cookies, stamps, fruit, pretty note paper, hot chocolate mix, movie tickets, etc. These kinds of things tend to create experiences instead of clutter.

I use a Meijer credit card for gas, and fill up most often at the Meijer gas station which (in addition to usually having the lowest prices) takes 5 cents off per gallon when I use the card. I also subscribe to text alerts from Meijer so they notify me when the price is about to go up. I also get points on those purchases which go toward discounts on my groceries. AND I pay the balance on the card every month, so I pay no interest and receive only benefits.

  • Ask the Readers: How Do You Save at the Pump?   14 years 1 week ago

    YES!!

I'm always amazed when I read articles about saving at the pump (it seems there have been many lately) that biking never seems to be mentioned. Driving less and biking more is the best way - great for your health, the environment, and for your wallet. I watch people in my neighborhood drive away and return 5 minutes later, then hop back in the car and drive away and return 30 minutes later, etc...

"To me, a good gift-giver is a person who can give you something that you probably wouldn't buy for yourself, but will definitely use" Those are the best gifts.

The best gift I've gotten this year was a Miami Heat jersey. I really wanted one but I could not justify spending $50 for it so I never bought one. I was so happy when she gave it to me.

    Rebel,
See if the sweetness is going away. Also make sure the airlock is bubbling away. With the washing, makes you wonder what was on the outside of the corn.

  • 20 Ways to Beat Insomnia and Get Better Sleep   14 years 1 week ago

No. You dont understand how chemicals and the body works.
By suppressing melatonin during the day, you feel it more at night (through increased sensitivity and upregulation)

sensitivity analogy example: if one day you wait 12 hours after waking up to drink your first cup of coffee, youll feel it stronger than if youd spaced out the cup throughout the day. By abstaining from caffeine your sensitivity to it increases.

regulation analogy example: if you take testosterone all the time, your body starts making less of it naturally. likewise, if you SUPPRESS melatonin during the day, you get a bigger dose of it at nighttime- your body releases more of it at once.

  • 6 Tips to Shrink Your Bills Every Year   14 years 1 week ago

This is a fantastic idea. I do up a budget and am very organized about tracking my expenses but somehow I still end up spending more than I budgeted every month.

I suspect its a combination of impulse buying and surprise bills/fixes, but I've never really bothered to sit and work through my history! Perhaps because looking at money going out of your bank account is a stressful experience. But slowly I am starting to realize these are the necessary, grown-up things you need to do to have a better life.

I am So doing a Bill Audit this Friday.

    Thanks!

I don't drive so that cuts down on gasoline costs in our household. My spouse does drive and we save our shopping points to take a dollar a off a fill up monthly. Sometimes if they quadruple points for gift cards we are even able to get 2 fill ups for the month.
