We put our home on the market back in early September with the intentions to gain more space for our growing family. We had a buyer in November, and had the home inspection shortly after. After negotiating, we need to come up with 12k in repair costs. We have been able to do this, but has put a real damper on the holiday season. If I was to win, I would use this to help pay down debt& use towards paying off repair costs& moving costs.
I love our tradition of driving down some of our local neighborhoods and seeing all the beautifully decorated homes while playing holiday music. It always gets me excited about the holidays!
Our family always opened one present on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas day and I continue that tradition. We also always have a new set of pajamas each year. It's just part of Christmas.
I'm surprised to see pet insurance on the list, because I'm used to seeing people get flamed for that decision. But I purchased it for my dog, too.
I have a schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle mix) and his coat is more high maintenance than I expected. We didn't know exactly what we were getting when we rescued him--they had his breed all wrong. It is much easier to pay a groomer, and I love supporting small business, but at $46 a pop (every 8 weeks or so), it just gets expensive. I bought some clippers, nail clippers and everything else I needed for about the cost of one grooming appointment, and I've learned to do it myself. It's a ton of work, but I'm able to get the look I want (all the groomers I've used make my dog look like a dork). I will say that it is good training for the dog to have a professional do it once or twice first--mine is much more relaxed with me now because he knows what to expect.
We usually take one night of the holiday season to drive around and look at Christmas lights (hubby, our two dogs, and me). Then we come home and enjoy some Christmas cookies. :)
The biggest problem with #1 is that most people will get a tax refund. However, if they just skip out on paying their taxes, they are skipping out on what could be a substantial amount of money.
I'm ranking this one among my Top 10 favorite blog post topics of this year! Such thought-provoking ideas. I think that the combination of #3 and #4 would help with negotiating skills, which would mean that the psychological effects of saving money help you earn more money as well.
I love how people criticize but don't make any effort to come up with ideas. All fresh food? Your food bill is going to be $$$$$$$!!!!! Obviously they've never fed a teenager!
I'd use some of the gift card to buy a few personal items for myself and partner, purchase some reading material for a teacher I know in East L.A., donate some kids' books to the women's shelter here in town, and keep the rest to use throughout the year as needs (mine or someone else's) popped up.
I would buy airline tickets and hotel stays to take my sister with me to visit Glacier National Park before the ice is melted and gone forever. Not much time left!!

My favorite Holiday Tradition is making my Cut Out Christmas Sugar Cookies! I share them with everyone and my daughter loves making these every year!

My favorite Christmas tradition is the music, particularly the old carols.

we really need a new vacuum ours broke. With 3 little ones a vacuum is a must. I would love to get my kids some winter coats and boots as well.

If I won the $1000 giveaway, I would buy my fiancee some new, tufted chairs to match the new dining room table for our house.
You all are too kind to offer this giveaway! If I were to win, I would put the money towards my upcoming wedding!
I would use this to buy lots of Christmas gifts for my family, and to go towards bills.
I would buy some Christmas presents and baskets to send to family.

An engagement ring from my husband of 19 years
My brothers started a graphic novel for me 2 Christmases ago - it was great!
Are they actually any good? I've never tried Target's diapers, how many are in a box for $10?
I would use the money to help my son's pay for their college tuition. I hate the thoughts of them being in debt after college.
I would use the $1,000 to add to my investment portfolio.
I would buy airline tickets and hotel stays to take my sister with me to visit Glacier National Park before the ice is melted and gone forever. Not much time left!!
Yeah create an enemy of the salesperson. Good strategy
A trip to Miami!
My engagement ring!
