This was nice to read. I am 11 days away from my second marriage and we are doing exactly this trying to keep it lowkey my daughter is going to be bridesmaid, bestman, ring bearer all rolled into one. Having it at our apartment with a few friends and family. We are having cake and punch with sandwiches for dinner. We are not going into a bunch of decorating. so far the only money I have spent is for rings, license and the preacher. A friend did my flowers the precher is handling the music and my mom is handling the sandwiches. so all in all I think it will be a great day a little more than he had planned on as this is his 3rd marriage but I only had a courthouse marriage the first time so I wanted a little wedding but not spend all the money on the hoopla wedding. I am wearing an after 5 dress from Avon, my shoes came from payless. Not expecting extravegent gifts but coworkers wanted me to do the bridal registary
As I am fixing to have my second marriage I must comment. I was married the first time at the courthouse. He was married the first time with the big church hoopla wedding. This time around we are having a small ceremony and reception with about 20 people at our apartment. We did not have all the parties ahead of time, no rehersal dinner. However we did registar so my friends from work can bring gifts only because we are actually starting out new, as I have been living with my mom after my divorce and he just didn't have anything after his divorce. I have been told that even this is too much for a second marriage. Any thoughts
This is very interesting! I'll be sure to keep this in mind! My hair has the tendency to become very dry and damaged with any little thing, even if the weather is too hot or too cold. :/
I'll be trying some of these, although I've been having plenty of luck with this Cocoa Keratin system, it's really complete and has been wonderful on my hair so far! :)
This is where you have to do your research....decent companies sell dog friendly tennis balls that do not have the same materials as a normal ball (hollow) and the teeth destroying adhesive is also removed. One company off hand is Kong. Thanks for all the ideas though!
I actually do gamble. I play blackjack and carefully track my ups, downs, expenses, etc in relation to my gambling. Hubby was off work with no paycheck for 4 months, and I was desperate to make money. I play until I lose three hands in a row, then I sit out a few and try again, if I still am losing, I leave. Have to be very aware of where I am at all time with my money. So far I am up overall, though I did lose 50 last week.
I'm not sure what your concern is. I recommend Linux because it works for me and makes older hardware more usable (XP runs like a dog on some of my older hardware, and not at all on other hardware). I don't guarantee that it works for others; nor will it meet everybody's needs.
Most folks are satisfied with a way to browse the web, access to email (if it's not via the web), and basic office software (if not using Google Docs, Open/Libre Office will work for most, Abiword+Gnumeric will work on lower-end machines). Most folks using Linux setups I've installed are content with the casual games that come with it.
Yes, some office documents may not look identical, but I regularly experience that between versions of MS Office too, and those MS versions actually cost me money.
Yes, you won't get the latest & greatest games—then again, if you're running old hardware and trying to get the most out of it, you're not likely a hard-core gamer.
Yes, I provide support for the Linux installations I've done and I assure you that the support for those boxes takes FAR less of my time per box than the support I provide to my Windows-using friends & family. Especially with the secure built-in remote administration tools.
You say "they chose a computer with [Windows] for a reason"—too often, that reason is "because it came preinstalled on the box". With my Linux installs, they don't to keep their anti-malware software up to date. They don't have to worry about defragging their drives. They don't have to worry that updates will stop.
Yes, the target audience of the article is Windows users, but it's little trouble to download/borrow a live-CD and at least try it out to see if it works, especially if the plan is to do a full reinstall of the system anyways. If, after performing all the tips in this article, the box still runs slowly, using an alternate OS may speed things up without monetary outlay for new hardware.
HDMI (and all other cables) can be bought much cheaper online.
Try Monoprice.com or Blue Jeans.com
A rooftop, or good indoor antenna can bring local HD programming
of excellent picture quality with no ongoing cost.
Make sure you use RG-6 (or better) connecting cabling.
Love my Tivo DVR box; well worth the cost to watch my programs
on my schedule.
But the credit cards cost more for the shop owner to process, right? So if everybody pays with credit cards, then all prices will go up to compensate for that loss.
I never gamble...it is a waste of money. The odds are always stacked for the "house" will always win, which means if you win a little, you will lose much more in the long run.
Canceling cable was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It will allow you to work on creative projects and get outside more. Not to mention avoid watching the (mostly) pointless news all afternoon.
A new casino just opened a county south of my city. Returning from a hiking trip, I stopped into check out the new facility. It doesn't look like a horse arena with all the ringing bells, flashing lights, plush carpeting and music playing loudly but the developer is promising to put in an even nicer facility soon and add horse racing, thus the arena.
As I promised myself, I took my $5 out of my pocket, walked up to a Slot Machine, inserted the dollar and hit -PLAY-. In 1/4 a second, it said -LOSER-.
As I filled up my recycled water bottle in the water fountain, I noticed a lot of seniors entering the casino. I thought about an older lady with whom I once worked. The lovely lady worked at the emergency services department of a local charity. She lived on social security as she was in her upper 70s. The rest of her income from the office job at the charity went to lotto tickets and gambling trips. The charity, one of the largest emergency charities in the city, could barely keep up with the needs of clients. It shuffled many people around to other charities to try to meet their needs.
This was my stark view of human nature - a lot of which doesn't make much sense. I got in my vehicle in the casino parking lot and drove home while reassured myself that my journey out of debt will not be as easy as winning this slot play. But staying in places like this would make my journey out of debt take much longer.
What a great list of articles! From a teenagers perspective I think it is potentially the best things a parent can do. While it might expose past mistakes and embarrassment, it will teach your kids more than you could imagine.
One of the great things about Out Of The Dark (OOTD) Budgeting web app aside from the fact that it is a great free online budgeting tool is that it is with you anywhere you go in the world where you can access the Internet, a true travel companion to keep all your finances in order. We used it for our last travel to the Middle East and it worked like a charm, I can no longer imagine travelling without my OOTD travel budget.
T-shirts for $1-2 -- Tons of barely worn free giveaway event shirts and vacation/event gotta have its.
Love the mall-brand stuff, sometimes even new items for $4-5 for good office attire + nice casual stuff. Always found everything I needed when stocking up by sticking to basics - chocolate slacks + blouse, black skirt + black print shirt, black slacks + black crochet sweater vest. Add my $2-3 purse. All set for work on a budget. Stick to basic shoe style and colors for cheapest outfitting.
i want to know what the parts consist of 1 cup=1 part ? i dont want to mess up and am just starting this diet actually 2 wks now and need my bread fix..
Thanks. Reading other articles on marginal tax rates helped me to see what most people found confusing. It also helped to read articles that differentiated between ordinary income and taxable income, average vs. effective tax rates, etc. Those nuances may not seem important but they really are.
Another Idea would be to get your Real Estate License. Realtors are independent contractors so they set their own hours, and they work as little or as much as they want. Also as a real estate agent if you every need to increase your income you can by simply working more hours. Look at www.kwrecruiter.com if your interested.
I can't believe how pessimistic you sound. I agree it is a rough time to graduate from college but I think it is very possible to save money and pay down debt post college. I am lucky that I majored in something that would give me decent job security but I know I will never being raking in a large salary. So I knew right from the beginning it was important to save. I was able to set aside a very decent emergency fun, start saving for retirement and make my regular student loan payments in just two years post college. The trick to it is that my living/day to day expenses are kept to a minimum. Thankfully, my student loans are not too outrageous and I live in a community in which I have a lower cost of living.

Will it harm good bugs like earthworms?
One thing I like to do too is spray everything down that you bring in the house with essential oil sprays. They kill germs, etc & smell awesome.

Good thing I don't have any issues with any of these attitudes.. ;)
Not to often, a few times a year.

Nope. Well, except with my 401(k).
