I often find that it's tough for me to think about budgeting since I have only myself and the ugly dogs to worry about right now. I don't know if that would change with a marriage or not. Probably worrisome.
I just wrote a kick-ass response to this, only to have it be unable to connect to the server and lose it. Sufficient to say that I don't know for sure, but my experience is that being married is both good and bad when it comes to budgeting--good because we're both less likely to overspend or spend without thinking because we know it will affect someone we love and bad because it makes it easier to feel guilty about perfectly acceptable spending. But then again, I didn't have a budget before I got married!
Thanks for the great tip--worked fine in Indianapolis. Since Office Depot is a Delta Skymiles shopping partner, I also earned a handful of freq flyer miles to boot!
That's an interesting question Andrea. Having a partner may help keep you honest about your spending habits, but I suppose having a partner can also create resentment and suspicion.
That's why I'm personally not getting married until I win the lottery. (crosses fingers)
What I like most about this post is that it advocates self-awareness. This is so key to success and happiness in life. In our podcast, Internet Business Mastery, we spend ample time talking about mindset-based principles. It's so important to have your mental awareness and understanding laid out in order to mind the proper motivation and passion in whatever you do.
Personally I decided that I would never be happy working for someone else. But as long as you can make a conscious choice (by knowing what you really want) you can be happy with whatever you decide is best for you.
Even if most of our listeners don't choose to use the internet to work for themselves, I would be happy just to know that they came to a better self-awareness of what they wanted.
My Japanese host mother used to make me the umeboshi onigiri for school lunch. Bento is cool, but onigiri is hands down, my favorite memory of my time in Japan. Thanks for posting about this! I get them at Ranch 99, and we have a great place up here in Seattle and the surounding area called Uwajimaya.
Oh, and way to geek out, btw. You had me at Triforce.
Although they've started keeping track of the samples they give me. I don't try to be a sample hog, but back when I was unemployed and nearly broke, I tried to weasle an additional sample of eye cream out of them, and they totally tracked it in their system. Embarrassing!
I have no interest, or gain, in rehashing articles from Consumerist or any other consumer blog as it only serves to make the article here defunct.
And as I said, I never stated I uncovered the scam. I was only informing Wisebread readers. If it's that appalling to everyone, I'll happily take it down.
Hey genius,
Don't pretend to be the super-sleuth, investigatory reporter that you're not. This is a rehash of several articles from a few weeks ago -- give credit where credit is due. Hack.
I want to, and know I need to, make changes to my spending because I live paycheck to paycheck but I know that I won't? Do I force myself or no?
I'm intrigued by your budgeting posts, Sarah. If you don't mind me asking, do you think it's easier to budget as a married couple than as a single person?
You can also get the PEBL, whose design I prefer, with a T-mobile plan and one cent, with a 75-dollar rebate, which I'm in the process of doing as we speak. Just looking for a friend who wants to buy something for 25 bucks from amazon, so that we don't have to pay shipping.
In one case, the film shows Citigroup's lending arm foreclosing on a Mississippi shack owned by developmentally impaired woman and her severely retarded 44-year-old son after they were refinanced into a loan they couldn't afford.
I understand that some people are great with money, and that many of us have families that we can turn to in times of financial stress. My own debt was created by irresponsible behavior, but that doesn't mean that that's the case for everyone.
I wonder if perhaps defaulting on a loan or line of credit would be more or less prevalent if interest rates and penalties weren't shooting up as the result of universal default? I suppose there's no way to know short of actually doing away with the practice (which some banks are, in fact, eliminating).
Great ideas Paul. Why oh why is it called 'common' sense?
My Pop was a serious old-school perfectionist and he measured everything THREE times - to my eternal chagrin.

The burger is like a week's worth of calories no doubt. My teeth were hurting just looking at the creme egg!

Mmm... giant kit kat... slurp.
That site is HILARIOUS!
Thanks for the tip. I hate running out of paper.
Thanks for addressing that, Sarah.

That is a good deal. When I got my Razr I had to pay $50 for it (on Cingular's 2-year plan).
The phone is very stylish and people often compliment its looks. But the voice quality isn't that fantastic so I highly recommend getting a ear piece.

That looks like Lembas to me!

I'm so glad so many of you are getting this excellent deal. It's a huge saving.

After taxes it came out to $17.09 - Will
A friend sent me a link to her local newspaper and thought it would be something I should let Wisebread readers know. Here's the link she sent me.

Kiehl's always ships samples if you ask. I've even gotten a tube of their lip balm which IMHO is the king of all lip balm.
I was just @ Target, and they've started carrying a limited line of Kiehl's products with totally jacked up prices.

Gee Paul, did you get this from Consumerist? Because they covered it. A week ago.

And creditors have been praying on the mentally disabled.
