My best Thanksgiving comfort food is warm homemade pumpkin pie with walnuts along with a big helping of fresh whipped cream on top of it. A side dish of breyers vanilla ice creams doesn't hurt things
Replace the matches with a disposable lighter.
A space blanket can be used for shelter as well as warmth.
Consider a multi-tool and a hand-cranked flashlight/radio.
The three steps I learned in Army basic training still apply: (1) Stop the bleeding, (2) clear the airway, (3) treat for shock. The latter requires getting the victim lying on their back, wrapping them to retain heat, and giving fluids if they are conscious.
CPR has de-emphasized mouth-to-mouth, as chest compressions will usually cycle enough air. The rhythm of compressions is appropriately the Bee Gee's "Staying Alive". It's worth the effort to take a class and practice on a mannequin - there's a fairly narrow range of pressure between ineffective and breaking ribs.
One instructor's words about tourniquets: you are effectively cutting off the limb to save the victim's life. Of course, that doesn't apply if the limb is already crushed, severed, or torn off.
If a heart attack victim is able to talk about interactions, also ask if they are allergic to aspirin.
Almost all the venomous snakes in North America are pit vipers. Their bites will not kill a healthy adult. Keep the victim calm and lying down to slow the spread of the poison and get them to a hospital for anti-venin. Since you are probably out in the woods, this means carrying them back to the road. Snakes have no interest in biting a human unless they are startled - we are too big to swallow (except for some Florida pythons, and they're not venomous). Pay attention to where you are stepping, and if you see a snake just pause to admire it, and it will go on about its business.
My favorite Thanksgiving comfort food is my Mom's sweet potato casserole dish. The creamy sweet potatoes and the yummy marshmallows on top are so delish and comforting in my tummy!
My favorite Thanksgiving comfort food is my mother's turkey stuffing. She's given me the recipe and I've watched her make it many times but I just can't get it exactly the same.
My mom's recipe for chopped chicken liver. Clean 1 pound livers, removing the yellow sacs. Saute slowly with a coarsely chopped onion until very firm but not rubbery. Discard the onion - it has given up its sweetness and absorbed any bitterness. Chop by hand with two hard boiled eggs and an onion to 1/8 inch pieces. Do not use a food processor! It should have some texture, not be a pate. Mix in a tablespoon or two of chicken fat (vegetable oil also works) until it holds together enough to spread on a cracker, miniature rye bread or baguette slice. Salt and pepper to taste - it takes about twice as much as you think. About $2 for ingredients, makes a great hors d'ouvre.
I like sweet potatoes in almost any combination. I discovered that as leftovers they work great steamed or stirfried with noodles and Chinese, Indian-, Japanese- or Thai-influenced spices.
Last year a friend told.me about this slow cooker recipe...sweet potatoes and granny smith apples. Approximately 2potatoes to 1 apple. Chunk and add to slow cooker. Can't recall how long we cooked this...but it was awesome. A different and refreshing side.
I would like to mention Americas bad habit of purchasing on credit. Instead of buying it now save and get it later. The interest some people pay is more then a lot of the peoples in this worlds yearly income
I have two favorite budget dishes for Thanksgiving, and just think about them makes me hungry!
First is green bean casserole, with fresh (or canned) green beans, cream of whatever soup (we like half cream of chicken and half cream of potato!), salt, pepper, and crispy onions. Easy, and amazingly delicious!
Second is what we've always called "green rice", which is just cooked rice, chopped broccoli, cream of broccoli soup, a jar of 'spicy queso', salt, and pepper!
The 7 billion of us the planet means challenge of a different kind. Each one of us needs food, clothing and shelter but the needs of synthetic energy are increasing exponentially. The regulation of population growth is against the basic concept of freedom for homsapiens while the population of other living beings in the Almighty's garden is regulated automatically' We should follow what is ordained for them.

ramen noodles...a frugal classic loved by many
Almost anything with melted cheese - homemade mac and cheese is the classic!
Add a cup of frozen mixed vegetables and cook until done - many a study break snack!
My favorite dish is cornbread stuffing. I add the usual celery and onions and chestnuts. It's delicious!
Macaroni and cheese

This is going to be weird, but my favorite cheap comfort food is rice mixed with egg, onion, and corn. The ultimate comfort for me.

I adore mashed potatoes! With just the right amount of butter it's like heaven!
(I also love bacon on anything, so I guess that counts as a comfort food!)
Pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream on top
Scrambled eggs with cheese and toast. Cheap and easy to fix.
