You did not mention separating out the methanol. If people drink what you are making here, they will go blind. As little as 10 mililiters of methanol will attack the optic nerve enough to make a person blind. 30 ml can kill.
It is very important that people know to boil out the methanol at a temperature of about 148F for a while before raising the temperature to about 170F to boil the ethanol out into a new container.
I love this idea! One more thing added to my Christmas wishlist, that's for sure.
Just the other day I made a roasted chicken with root vegetables (very inexpensive meal when you consider that it fed us for almost a week) and saved aside the carcass and some of the meat to make chicken soup. Have to do something to use up the celery and carrots that are wilting in my fridge, and what better that chicken stock.
Looking forward to getting this book. Good think Christmas is less than two months away.
I used a variation of the last excuse at my first job out of college, and I totally regret it. I decided not to use my company's 401(k) because I didn't intend to stick around for more than a year, which is when the company would have started matching my contributions...so I thought it wasn't worth it.
My family's favorite budget Thanksgiving dish is macaroni and cheese! All ages love it! The adults have left it off the menu in previous years. But the kids demanded we have it every year on our Thanksgiving menu!
My favorite recipe comes down to a tie between corn pudding and cranberry sauce made from whole cranberries. Both are super easy to make, require very few ingredients (especially cranberry sauce) and are great as sides, or are sweet enough to be desserts (for me anyway). We love watching the cranberries pop in the pan, and end up eating every ounce of it because you can put it on everything.
My favorite thanksgiving dish is either corn casserole or plain old mashed potatoes with my stepmothers amazing turkey gravy. Her gravy is amazing and I can never make it like her!!
I'm hoping this one ends after November 7th, although I wouldn't mind going back to October weather -- it was gorgeous then!
Anyway, my favorite frugal comfort foods: for eating out foods, definitely a McD's double cheeseburger with extra pickles. I craved those when I was pregnant and now whenever I feel queasy, that's the first thing I go for. For just warm yumminess: polenta and my sweet balsamic sauce on it. Warm, cheesy, creamy deliciousness. Good loose tea (earl grey or darjeeling) is often one of my comfort foods as we live in the north and it is cold and snowy about 5 months a year. My kids often stop for a tea break instead of recess from school! :)
My favorite Thanksgiving dish probably qualifies as both a budget dish and comfort food: mashed potatoes with chives, coarse-chopped garlic, butter and sour cream. While it may not be the healthiest or most nutrient dense part of the meal, it's the glue that holds everything together for me! Throw some gravy on top and I'm feeling the holiday spirit in no time!
Back when I was first on my own, I became a huge fan of the Reynolds cooking
bags. They had recipe cards in the box and I tried everyone! Today I still
make some of my favorite. Not always using the cooking bag, but just in a
skillet or in a crock pot. I took one and created my favorite potato dish
that's really inexpensive. I would quarter/slices/or cube potatoes, cream of
mushroom soup, can of cheese soup, and onion and simmer together. I would
switch it up occasionally, however, the cream of mushroom soup was the
constant. I think I might try the cream of mushroom with garlic soup this
year!
My favorite Thanksgiving comfort food it stuffing. I love it when it is cooked in the bird. Regular stuffing please, not a big fan of the kids with sausage, fruit or nuts in it.
My personal favorite is scalloped potatoes with a little bit of ham in it. My daughter loves salmon patties. Both are meals I tend to make when I'm broke and making things stretch.

Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup!

Left over mashed potatoes (or instant) with frozen corn and green beans and butter or margarine
Congratulations Meg! I purchased a crock pot two months ago but haven't really used it that much. Can't wait to try out your recipe.

Cheesy grits!
Mashed potatoes are such an inexpensive side dish! Just add some garlic salt, butter and sour cream, and everyone's happy.
Oatmeal with brown sugar and cinnamon.
French bread with pesto. I can survive on that all day!
Christie,
Yes! I guess the end of the year just passes so quickly! Thanks for the heads up!

My favorite dish is defiantly mashed potatoes. They are creamy and good, and make me feel full and happy.

I love homemade Chicken Noodle soup, with the chicken and broth coming from the bones of a whole chicken from a previous meal.

We enjoy french dip beef cooked in the slow cooker...
Pumpkin pie! Yum!
