The smartest investment I've ever made was in myself. By electing to further my education and pursue my degree, the options for my life have drastically changed.
Future Social Security (SS) payments will be funded by future tax payments. The trust fund holds no assets except the obligation of US taxpayers. At some point in the future, taxes will have to be raised or benefits cut. There is no getting around that.
I very much doubt taxes will be raised so I expect benefits will be cut. I would rather the government explain this better now than later like Greece. I believe that SS may be short of funds when I'm ready to retire in 25 years. I even receive a statement from SS every year that even says that is a possibility.
There are alternatives to Social Security. There is a very good one in place now called a 401k.

In hindsight, whenever I've spent a little money to improve myself, whether it's clothing, books, exercise equipment or an item that furthers my personal growth, it's been a worthwhile investment.
The best money I have ever invested would be my Massage Therapist training. Working for yourself, on your own time and pace will carry me beyond my retirement years as I enjoy my life
The best investmet I have ever made is returning back to school after 20 years. I am going fora second Bachelor's Degree and possibly further for my Master's in Psychology or Social Work. I want to make a difference in the world with our children because they are our future. My husband and I are adopting a sibling group at Christmas time and by having this degree and these Psychology courses will help me twofold. I can help other children and my own children at the same time.

My ex-husband and I tried hard to make it work, but we were so different and had such different goals that all we did was make each other miserable. After far too many years of living that way, I finally decided to put me first. I started over in a new career, started running and eating better, started meditating and taking better care of myself and today I am happier, healthier and more successful in every way as a result.
Same thing happened to me awhile back too...it embarassing and really frustrating, but you learn never to do it again! I feel sorry for the both of us. I still think of it to this day... =(
I love this post! I'm horrible about viewing my wardrobe in terms of what I'm missing (usually party clothes) instead of what I actually need. Sure, it's nice to buy something for a night out every now and then, but I don't need a whole closet full of shiny clubwear. No matter how much I tell myself I do. :)
This looks awesome. I tried this on my LG Revolution (Bryce). All I got was play/pause up to 759 ohms. No rewind , no fast forward. It was fun, but no gain for the Revolution. As a tip, i used a salvaged digital camcorder cable. It worked great. I had a cut off female RCA cable and wired that into my proto board. So I didn't have to cut in to the camcorder cable.
