I wish prices in San Francisco were down 50% like in wherever you live in Florida. It's absolutely NUTS right now with traffic, job offers, packed restaurants.
You're right. If you survived this downturn, the leverage on the upside is huge.

I send my anemic patients out to the thrift store to buy a cast iron skillet and start cooking. I have to admit I have to use hot soapy water to clean it. These skillets are great and they are easy to maintain. No longer do you have to worry about ingesting byproducts of Teflon.
Because of bad credit I couldn't get a credit card and there are times when I need one. So I investigated this option.
I started out with a card from Green Dot. You can get them from most drugstores with all of the other giftcards and prepaid phone cards. Yes there is a fee to set it up and a fee to load money. I think there is a fee to take money out from an ATM.
With Green Dot, there were two instances of someone trying to use my card. First they tried $30, then $20. At the time I had $5 on the card so it was not big deal. I went on the Green Dot website to report it and I couldn't find any place to do so.
Now I have a prepaid debit card from AAA. There was a fee to set it up. But there have been no more fees, to deposit money or anything. It's AAA's modern version of traveler's checks. And it's a real VISA card.
But I especially like it for online purchases. And they want to know if anyone other than me tries to use it.
Also, Green Dot does send you a card with your name on it. The AAA card says TRAVEL CARD on it and they don't send you one with your name.
I agree with comment 7. We have forced these animals into their positions as pets. We should spay/neuter 100% of all pets. That way, in a generation, we would be rid of most or all of them. We won't have to kill any of them. They would just go humanely extinct. Just imagine how much money would be saved. BTW #7, comment on the article, not the comments. Try to be civil.
I am considering getting a Health savings account and high deductible program. What is best? I need something only for myself. I am not above getting no insurance at all because without insurance I can use private charity clinics for basement prices and would be eligible to pursue private charity help for catastrophic. I am against going on the dole or using any HMO style corporation which gets government handouts(most people on HMOs are unaware that they are on welfaer, but they are) I believe cash causes lower prices. I had a dental emergency that was gonna be 7000$ and I have shopped around and when I'm done w all the work it should be 600$ which I had saved up. This was because of shopping. I am in a pickle because I def do not believe, morally, in using insurance as "prepaid medical care". Since I'm young, it makes sense to get catastrophic coverage, but if its going to cost me more than it pays out... I want something with a low monthly payment, like with a super high deductable so if its a 10,000$ thing or more I'm covered and to be able to chip away at an HAS at my leisure. Does such a plan exist?
If the obamacare forced insurance mandate passes I WILL refuse it even if it requires jail. I will not be robbed by force of government gun by the insurance companies. They will have me by offering a good deal and a good deal alone. An insurance mandate would be an immorality on the level of theft. I can't afford to forgo food and shelter for "prepaid medical xcare" that I might not use.. And we all know that wed just be getting the "get legal" catastrophic plans and wed be paying 3x as much for them in order to cover everyones mandated preexistings and for people who use the hospital as a drug hotel
I have worked as a marketing and product manager for financial institutions throughout my 15 year career. I have spent a lot of time marketing the features and benefits of banking products such as credit cards, checking accounts, CDs, saving accounts, brokerage accounts, etc.
Recently, I've decided I want to transition my career from a corporate job to being a freelance writer. This is not something I can do overnight, I have to find clients willing to take a chance on me.
As it would happen, my first assignment is writing for a prepaid debit card called Mango Money by MasterCard. What's interesting about this assignment is I've chosen to incorporate the debit card into my budget. It gives me a chance to really experience what an actual customer goes through.
Becoming educated about the fee structure is critical to avoiding the fees of a prepaid card. Regardless of what prepaid debit card you decide to use, memorizing how fees are assessed is essential to your success!
I use my prepaid card in place of my weekly cash allowance which is the perfect budgeting tool for me. Here are a few best practices that I’ve learned:
1. Because my bank charges a transfer fee of $3, I only load money onto the card once month (Direct deposit my paycheck it is free)
2. I avoid using ATM machines for cash and instead get cash back from my grocery store purchases
3. I check my balance regularly by sending a text to Mango instead of an inquiry at an ATM machine (free)
Unlike most prepaid cards that I’ve researched, Mango doesn’t charge registration, activation, or transaction fees.
I don’t know that a prepaid debit card is cheaper or better than a bank debit card; in my opinion, they aren’t necessarily intended to serve the same purposes. You just need to figure out what financial tools work for your specific situation to stay on budget!
These pets have been taken in by the humanrace thousands of years ago and forced into their unnatural dependency on human civilization and cannot be allowed to run feral and breed excessively in the wild, while humans still do so to the harm of civilization. Most pounds-rescues euthanize millions of strays yearly but raising them and keeping them as pets is still less of a social ecological cost than having them running the streets. And how many smart ass posters even care to adopt human children who a in abundance and uncared for in similar large numbers in our world. STFU and don't post in or read the article.
The ways to save money though is to not expect your pet to live forever once they get old and to just provide a healthy diet and exercise. Vets are into making money now and push expensive useless shots, check ups and pills. I had to tell my vet after adopting a street mom/kitty that they were healthy in the street-alley, I just don't want them with ticks, rabies and worms in my house and needed neutered/spayed. After that they have no problems except to make sure male cats are fed wetter food or moisten their dry food with water and get the not too expensive type with urinary tract base minerals.
If things are priced like 1999 does that mean we are going to have another stock market crash like we did after 2000? I think I would pick a different time frame to compare for the market.
It is true that you are starting to see some deals in real estate and luxury items such as boats. Negotiating will always be a key skill to have in buying.
In regards to the stock market I have a couple of blog posts that you may want to read before jumping into the market.
I agree with the comments about the cats.
The only way to save on having a cat is by never having one.
That and that whole thing about cats being emissaries of satan and all.
Was curious if this would fit on a portable oil radiator or if you knew of a model that would. We keep one room in the cabin heated in the winter and this might reduce the energy needed to do so.
Thank you!
I started buying back in 2008 and early this year and still buying. It's great having a healthy account and zero debt. The economy will always balance itself out in the long run. In the meantime, it's great to look for anamolies in te sectors and grab what you think might do well. Anyone can make money in this economy, you just have to b willing to do the research and take risks.
Thanks so much for investing the time and energy in putting this together. It is so frustrating picking up Entrepreneur magazine where are the feature articles talk about the handful whose businesses blow up. The latest article about Russel Simmons talks about his"genius" but nothing about the tough times.
WELL DONE!
I suspect that prices may vary from store to store. I've notices when traveling that Costco will have items particular to a certain region, for example, the Texas Costco had Spanish/Mexican foods on the shelves that I never see up NorthEast.
If it were not for netspend and accountnow many people with poor credit would not have a chance. If you didn't place the order for the card then destroy it. It was & is not the end of the world. Just be grateful that you are blessed to have "regular checking" & possibly good or perfect credit. People have had problems that shoot their credit to the negative and by any means leagally necessary you do what you have to do to reestablish yourself. So the next time you get a card you didn't request throw it away. These companies are great and I have done so much better and my credit is getting back on trach thanks to them.
If you use corn meal in your mix will it settle to the bottom of your mix?? Do you stir the mix at times during fermintation?? Do you add the sediments to your batch that goes in for steaming too???
Thanks Chris
I remember when my friends company was reorganized, it meant the head of the department was fired and replaced with a newer, younger and cheaper version. My friend managed to hang in for awhile but then received his Pink Slip.....he was depressed for quite awhile, but then remembered that along time ago (like college - and that was a very long time ago, he was pushing 50) he had wanted to be an actor, but thinking that was too unsteady, he went into Public Relations. He is now acting, albeit small bit parts, but he is much happier, even though he has much less money. What I'm trying to say is that every "negative" that happens may actually lead to a more positive place....in fact I don't believe in negatives, only opportunities.....so yes, it is scary, but keep looking for what new discovery you may make about yourself and go for it.
It was the fact that my friend was laid off and another impolitely fired (along with being angry at my spouse for not employing me on a project) that led me to write, direct, produce and do the art and set decoration for "Pink Slip" - Part 1 - Suzie, a new webisode now on youtube. The link on youtube for Pink Slip is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plG3WOzL6Zs. There was nothing in my work experience that would lead me to think that I could do such a thing, but then if I look back my webisode actually combines every aspect of myself. All I'm saying is that although these are depressing times, take a few minutes from your job search and watch Pink Slip - Part 1 - Suzie. Maybe you will laugh if only for a few minutes. Part 2 which comes out in November is actually hysterically funny, as our hero Max's depression takes an unexpected turn. Have fun and don't give up hope.

With the top of the surface giving off heat to work. There's nothing on the fan that would burn or catch fire. If that helps.

Cast iron oil stove. It also works on my mother's cast iron wood burning stove. As long as the top of the stove gets hot, it'll work.

Give my cat a bath? Brush her teeth? I don't know what kind of cat you have, but my demonspawn critter would have me bleeding six ways to Sunday.
I do feed her quality food though. The way I view it, I don't eat fast food, so neither will my kitty.
Woulod this work on a cast iron propane stove/heater?

Caution should always be exercised when investing.
I use cash. It can be lost and spent just as easily as a pre- paid debit card without the fees.

Seriously; just wanted to compliment you on this. Great job!

i use one of these for online shopping, much safer.
if the card DOES get cloned, then they can only spend whatever's on it.
so yes, i reckon it's worth the 50p per transaction charge.
Certain gas caps work well as bottle openers, the ones with two tangs on them.
