"People falsely assume that a budget is their punishment for being in debt"
In my experience, it is more important to budget when times are good. I had a few nice years of very high income and I did not budget. Now that times are tough, I wish I have saved much more during the good times. It would have made the lean time easier to handle.

This is all well and good, and yes, saving and keeping a budget can be depressing and, yes, you can go overboard, but, really... I see so many of these blogs written by people who DON'T take into account the VAST number of us who are currently UNEMPLOYED (been laid off, lost our jobs through whatever means) and are living on our savings.
It is all well and good to say "you need fun money" and "don't stay up night worrying about your budget" until you are FORCED to figure out whether you can afford your medications this month or not.

plain yogurt and frozen berries in the blender. it's already halfway frozen by the time you blend it and you can serve it like ice cream or pour it into popsicle molds to freeze the rest of the way.
i also use heavy cream and frozen strawberries to make a sugar free ice cream [i'm diabetic]
if you have a bunch of strawberries on hand, wash them, dry them [drying is important] pull the crowns back away from the berries and stick a toothpick in at the crown end. freeze them individually on cookie sheets and you have individual whole strawberry pops. that was my grandmother's summer thing for my mom and uncle.
You can get free new release books for the Kindle as well - if you go to Kindle - books and then to Kindle bestsellers they have two columns - the top 100 free books are on the right! I have more than paid for my Kindle this last year since I have read over 200 books without paying for more than 20 of them at most. I expect to repeat this for the years to come. I've changed from thinking that Kindle is an indulgence to thinking that for some people, it can truly save them money!
My best find was an original photo by CC Lockwood. He is a world reknown Louisiana Wildlife photographer featured from Life Magazine to National Geographic. It was signed, dated and in it's original frame. I called CC and he appraised it at $650.00. Since I am a rabbit fanatic, I donated the photo to Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue in Baton Rouge, LA. Everybunny should love a bunny! :)
To be fair, these aren't EXACTLY like pasta. Especially Italian pasta. I'd say that the kelp noodles come pretty close to approximating the feeling of glass (rice) noodles, but none of these will ever match the true awesomeness of fresh Italian pasta. If you were raised on the real stuff by an Italian mom, this might seem like weak sauce (heh), but they are a godsend for people like me who really SHOULDN'T be consuming carbs.
Wow, this is the first time I've ever heard about these noodles. Since my mom is Italian, I was always fed pasta and break like four to five times a week when I was little. I still love a good bowl of spaghetti, but I don't eat white pasta or bread anymore. This has been a huge help. Even though whole wheat pasta is a little more expensive (like .25 a box more) you eat less of it since it's more filling. I will have to try these noodles though!
Wow - I have never heard of an opportunity like this before. With our second child on the way, this is definitely something I will keep in mind. Do you know if these surveys are limited to residents living in certain areas?
those studies seem to be about human perception in general as opposed to what constitutes "healthy" food. You could easily apply that study to other consumer items.
The are so many problems with the food industry it can't be summed up in a comment or article. Labeling and ingredient listing is one of them. Also, there's a lot more to a healthy food than just calories, cholesterol and fat. How it's grown, how it's processed, what it's fed and how it's treated (if you eat meat), etc all factor in. Plus I would argue that yes people that tend to cook at home these days go to farmers markets and/or try to be aware of items in their local grocery store and have a better idea of where their food comes from and how it was grown. What do you think people did before there were grocery stores? And don't get me started on the pet food industry. .. (hint: there are no kibble trees in the wild and yes dogs and cats can eat and digest raw, UNCOOKED bones)
it's all marketing people. I would also argue that it's healthier to eat a piece of locally raised, grass fed, humanely treated beef than it is to eat a heavily processed garden burger built in a factory hundreds of miles away.
That 30% discount suggestion is very nice. We recently went to a trip and could have used this. We got bookings through a local agency, not a website though, but still, we could have gotten it directly.
I'm interested in converting to a dual flush toilet, but I don't want to buy a whole new toilet, any suggestions? I've seen this site, http://www.dualflushtoilet.ca and it looks pretty good. What do you think?
- 30 yr mortgage, fixed rate
- Been tight since the start... but never missed a payment
- Discovered we were victims of mortgage fraud (house was intentionally overvalued by $90,000)
- For the last six months tried working with DOS, HUD, FBI, OAG, our Bank (BAC), and many other acronyms.
- Got absolutely NO WHERE! They all said they can't help us because we pay our mortgage.
- Went to lawyer, he said, "Yeah you've got a great case... it'll just cost you $30,000 to win."
So, last resort, stop paying the mortgage. I will not throw my money for ten plus years because we got cheated and our state agencies are too crippled to do anything about it and lawyers are too damn expensive. So for me, in our situation, walk away is the only way.
This reminds me of that hilarious Saturday Night Live commercial about the Chameleon XLE, where the inside was a luxury car but it was all beat up outside to protect from getting stolen.
been 3 days now, is it supposed to get a little bit of a sour smell to it, or did i mess up and kill the yeast with to high of a temp?, or should i just go and just leave it alone till its time
Another idea to save money regarding cars is refinance your loan - I refinanced mine at http://www.moneyaisle.com and now I'm saving $78 every month on my payments.
I didn't mention this, because I don't know how common it is, but when I was on Atkins, I was perpetually hungry. I mean, I could literally eat a steak and a pound of shrimp and find myself doubled over in hunger an hour later. It was really weird.
I don't think the Atkins diet is particularly healthy, but this doesn't mean that other people haven't had success with it.
That's a fair point - people do feel tired when overdoing it on carbs because elevated blood glucose. But the same foggy feelings can be had when blood sugar is low. I know if I accidentally take too much insulin, I will feel tired and crabby for several minutes before I become aware of the low blood sugar problem.
People who go on the Atkins or other low-carb diets whose bodies are capable of burning fat (which turns into carbohydrates) for fuel might not feel tired or dull with few carbs in their diets. My body, however, didn't feel like burning fat at all, so I just sat around in a stupor for two weeks. :)

I bet you could get hotels in Florida for an absolute steal right now.
I got back about a week ago--there's really not any oil down there--yet.
If you go soon, use this as a negotiating point and I bet it will work in your faovr.

Great advice about avoiding the concierge. I always try to make friends with the bartenders because they know all the hot spots.
