Great post. I have three half slips I am taking out of my lingerie draw the next time I wear a skirt.

it's the cure-all for lumps.  you *can* pull it off.

oh wait.. is this supposed to be a personal finance blog or something?  silly me i thought it was female fashion empowerment.. ahem. back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I wish I could pull off the whole jeans-n-a-dress thing. Sigh. If we ever meet up, I'll just live vicariously through your wardrobe.

ok, i must admit the times that i've had to wear a slip under a skirt, i didn't actually like the feeling so much. however, the full slips are gorgeous to me. they make a great nightie -- a little more feminine and far far less frump than sweats and pjs. i've found a wide variety at thrift stores -- really beautiful ones, with that old-school quality you mention.

and.. there's this trend now of wearing a dress over jeans. i love this because it covers up all sorts of muffin tops and cinnamon rolls and what-have-you, but is funky and girly still. it works great with a full slip and a little cardigan.

I've thought about that. Back before I understood the process by which people use the penny stocks to scam other people, I almost wrote to the company to admonish them for pushing their own stock via spam. Once I figured out how it worked, I felt bad about it.

I was going to approach that in the blog post, but you may have noticed that my blog posts are a tad lengthy without looking at all angles. :)

webmaster: as we used to say at band camp, it's not the size of your instrument that counts, it's how you handle it on the field.

I'm totally in the same boat. Baby steps - you'll get there.

Asthma is a royal pain in the rear. It ruined my figure skating as a kid (cold air + asthma = hospital fun), but these days, inhaled steroids are so great that if you take them regularly, you can usually make it through normal workouts without a flare up.

Anyway, breathing is important, so problems breathing can totally seem like a legit reason not to run. But then, a heart transplant is also a great reason not to run, yet people do this all the time! So we can totally handle it.

Our central library in Seattle is quite the attraction, but it's downtown, and thus, kind of a pain for me to get to on an average day. I kind of miss living in a small town that had one big library; the ones here are all dispersed. But the online system for checking out and renewing selections is truly awesome. I will never miss the card catalogue.

Which, incidentally, is a very, very hot piece of furniture right now. You can buy old card catalogues on craigslist, if you're lucky, for thousands of bucks.

The sad part is that penny stocks are supposed to be for young companies to make a little money so they can survive.

It is about time people rediscover the library again. Most people have no idea how advanced libraries are in 2007. People also stop using the library and then turn around and complain when libraries get less and less funding. Thank you for bringing attention to libraries once again. I notice this blog has a high concentration of avid readers and library users. Definitely a bookmark for me.

The Day after Thanksgiving is rebate heaven.  The last couple of years I have gotten my fill of tech goodies.  Hard drives on the cheap and lots of free gadgets or other crap that I might never use but all I paid was the tax.  Best Buy and Office Max go crazy.  I'm sure there is a lot of other non-tech stuff too.

Filling out all those forms is a pain though.  I also recently had a letter sent to me about a rebate saying there was an error processing.  So I had to call them and they told me it would be another 3-4 weeks...  For all I know they send that letter out to everyone just to try and weed out a few more slackers.

I wish FreeAfterRebate.info had an RSS feed.

Since I'm really into personal development and growth right now, this article gave me some inspiration. I too used to "run" until I found out I had "sports induced asthma" which is an excuse I then used for about 8 yrs for why I couldn't work out. Go figure.

Anywho, I recently started a life changing transformation, I started eating healthier and working out. I lost 10lbs so far and saved a ton of money (.99 candy bags add up!) I'm able to do small sprints between my walking, but I hope to start running again one day. I would looooove to do a marathon. This article came to me at the right time. Thanks again!

picked up a 2gb flash drive for $8.00.  just what i was looking for.  i remember when i bought my desktop ($100) and laptop ($300) - yes at the same time because i couldn't choose, and really, at those prices i didn't have to - i had to fill out about 20 rebate forms.  but they all came in so it all worked out.  awesome site - thanks for the tip!

Tell me more about this surgery.

Labatt's, indeed. Give me a Pyramid ale over a week provincial brew anyday. Argh.

I, too, am impressed with Will's choices. Inspiring.

I'm having a LOT of scripting errors on my end - chances are that something odd just slipped in when I was cutting and pasting URLs. Thanks for pointing that out - I wouldn't have noticed, and my original text had all the correct links. I think I've fixed most of it now.

  • And One for the "Readers": LibriVox   19 years 10 weeks ago

welcome and thanks for chiming in, hugh! love your site (in case this was unclear). please, don't mind the self-hating canadian-linguist up above there.. =)

and will, way to find the female erotica amongst the classics!  quite impressive!

  • The Key to Free   19 years 10 weeks ago

I appreciate the tips but how come so many of your links point to the naag?

  • And One for the "Readers": LibriVox   19 years 10 weeks ago

the canadian connection is just a geographical accident of where LibriVox started, but it's totally global now, and there are all kinds of accents, majority american (of all stripes). Note that some books have different readers for each chapter; some books are all one reader (you can search the catalog for "solo" to get those).

  • And One for the "Readers": LibriVox   19 years 10 weeks ago

I tend to use a lot of ehs and aboots and whatnot when I speak, so you really wouldn't want me on tape. Plus, I talk faster than most auctioneers. However, I MIGHT be able to do better reading erotica than the guy that Will picked.

  • And One for the "Readers": LibriVox   19 years 10 weeks ago

I'm downloading Cleland's Fanny Hill right now. I'll let you know what kind of accent to expect. =)

Update:  The reader is quite good!  He reads a *bit* fast and it is kind of werid listening to a dude's voice for a erotic book narrated by a female character.

I used to have audible.com account and I have to say this recording is as good as any I've purchased (except for Lord of the Rings, those are simply in a league of their own).

  • And One for the "Readers": LibriVox   19 years 10 weeks ago

you'd actually be surprised at the variety of accents i heard just from listening to a few of their samples. it does appear to be a pretty worldwide project. and andrea, you could always choose one of their Chinese selections -- hopefully those will not be peppered with aboots and ehs.

  • And One for the "Readers": LibriVox   19 years 10 weeks ago

It's from Canada, so the accent will drive me nuts, I can just tell.

Also, LibriVox totally sounds like a new pharamceutical release. But I'll probably end up using it - thanks for the tip! I signed up for Daily Lit, but I didn't like the classics that I chose, so this would be a great way to make my commute more bearable.

...though I usually only use it for books.  Their policy on DVDs isn't so good here (LA County).  i think you can keep the older movies for a week, but the new ones you can only keep for a day or two.  At least, that's how it was the last time I looked into it.  And, at least at one point, they actually charged a dollar or two for some of them.  But don't quote me on that!
