...but the variance in bioequivalency can also likely make a difference in birth control pills. As a nurse, I know it's recommended that when switching the pill you're on, you should use backup protection for the first month until your body adjusts to the level of hormones in the new pill. Now imagine getting a different generic pack of pills every month; there are literally dozens of manufacturers of generic birth control pills, and your local pharmacy usually buys from wherever they can get the best price.
The other big one is thyroid medication and blood thinners. The generics of these often don't work as well as name brand. It's best to either always take name brand, or always take generic.
Most of the time, generics are great. Not always. And for the most part, they are certainly better than nothing. If you're concerned about it, talk to your doctor and pharmacist about what options are best for you.
Berries in the mash for a reflux, is not the best route. You only do that if you have 20 trees and the fruit is rotting on the ground. It makes for free sugar. The reflux alone would strip it down to about 180-190 proof. You have to tweak boiler temps and column temps to get it up the 190.
If fruit it scarce, make a small batch for the thumper. You will have to keep the column hotter then normal so you can get some hot steam coming out the top. The thumper won’t work at low temps. It has to reach 185 F. place condenser after it.
If you don’t have a still, and you are always going to make flavourful liquor, get a pot still. If you are going to make vodka, then get a reflux. If you are going to do both, then the reflux with a thumper over heating some will do the best.
As you increase the temp on a still, you increase pressure. Here, you take a chance of explosion. Most column stills have a loose cap on top. More then a couple pounds of pressure and it will pop off. Keep the temps at just the right levels. The top of the column should be right at 180-185. You will have to maintain a steam watch, since the temp is going to be a good bit higher with a thumper. Always think of the safety first. The condenser can be attached loose, no silver solder. This allows you to put in the thumper. I like glass, you can see if it is boiling too much or filling up and needs a little changed out.
Oh, geez. I wish I could draw well enough to show you. If this does not explain it enough, just ask. I will try to clarify it.
I have to say that the most important skill I've had to learn over the past year is "settling"- for being underemployed at a mediocre job over none at all, for just making ends meet (or not quite), for repairing and reusing and making do. All that sounds so negative, but the truth is, I have adjusted my perspective accordingly, and have been happy. I have found that I really didn't need so much after all, and that unpaid bills, re- and re-soled shoes, pancake dinners and more time at home with family and board games and books haven't ruined me or driven me crazy. Quite the opposite- I'm looking forward to the future free of fear of debt, since we're so well acquainted now! Knowing that you've seen the worst, and lived through the uncertain times, the future seems less menacing.

The per-month mentality is emphasized by salespeople, too. I once went to a used car dealer thinking they wouldn't have anything for me, but checking, just in case. The guy asked how much I could afford (trying to get my maximum number right away!). I said $3000 (this was a decade ago). He asked how much I could afford per month. I explained that I could afford a $3000 down payment and $0 per month.

By the time I finally calculated my first net worth, I was very excited to learn that it was positive.

@KC, it was definitely depressing to see how little of my mortgage payment was going toward principal ($30 out of a $610 payment, 13 years ago). At first. But then I realized by just adding $30 to my payment, I would be cutting a month from the time I had to pay my mortgage. So I started paying $100 extra, which sounds kind of small compared to a $610 payment, but which, for a while, was cutting off three months, which sounds huge!
I've been looking for an answer to this and haven't found it anywhere. I opened a traditional IRA in 2007 with after-tax money. Due to the stock market drop in 2008 there is less in the account now than I originally contributed.
Will I be able to deduct the net loss on my 2010 taxes if I convert? Logically it would make sense that the losses should be deductible (just as gains would be taxable), but I haven't been able to figure out whether the IRS allows it, since all the guidance I've seen assumes that conversions involve net gains.
Hi Julie - Thought you'd be interested in what I learned yesterday at my mortgage bank. The two loan officers had never heard of paying your monthly mortgage with a credit card. The guy said he thought it was a good idea and "let's go ahead and do it". The woman was a little less inclined to go forward without calling corporate office. She did, and was told that they cannot do it right now. But, my idea was not a surprise to the corporate office. I'm pretty sure it is on the consideration table. The loan officer told me there will be some BIG changes in banking effective January 1st, and it may be possible in a couple months.
I live in northeastern Minnesota where the taconite industry (steel) has been hit hard by the downturn, all of the five mines in the area laying off and/or shutting down for a period of a year. Recently, all of these mines began hiring back and starting up some of their lines. The mine my husband is employed with worked with the union to go to a 32 hour work week instead of lay off so all employees could retain their health insurance. We are optimistically hopeful that things are turning around and have begun to purchase larger ticket items again. We are truly grateful that our major industry is back on its feet and prepared for the downturn realistically and strategically. We see most of our communities recovering and have not lost many businesses. We are truly grateful and extremely hopeful the world economy will grow in a more controlled and positive environmental fashion. We all control our attitude in life and share in the responsibility to maintain our beautiful world so future generations can appreciate it also.
I hate New Years, I think it should be a time of reflection, and normally that is pretty depressing. In our situation, I am expecting a much better year, as we are both doing well in our jobs, and I am working full-time now. We are actually looking into buying a house, which was just a dream before, I am going to be into my second, third, and fourth semesters of grad school in 2010, and we have 2 trips planed. I have a lot of hope for the new year I guess, just wish it wasn't so hard to maintain.
Of course there is hope! Hope that people will get along, hope that the economy will get better, hope that our jobs will be stable and hope that we can learn, grow, and keep moving forward.
My hope is that people can learn and improve their lives and themselves personally, myself included! I have plans and goals that I hope to reach this next year, and the year after, and the years following those. It is sad that there are those who have no goals for the future, because if you don't have any aim, you'll hit nothing every time!
As I head toward my 50th year in life, I realize that there will always be ebbs and flows in life, finance, jobs, tragedies and joys. For us, 2010 will be a new year of changes, ds will head off to college and our nest will be empty after years of homeschooling. Despite my husband's limited retirement income, we are eating quite well and I will be able to build my business to help supplement our finances. It is my faith and hope in the Lord that makes life content through it all.
I had a problem with a moldy smell in the bathrooms and on towels. A small glass filled with white vinegar and the smells were gone. The easiest and cheapest fix ever!!!
I read it will also get rid of the residual smells of cigarette smoke by someone who smoked in the bathroom.
I'm generally excited about the new year...2009 was spent mourning my father (who passed away Dec. 21, 2008) and being in a funk. 2010? Will be a year that I try http://www.happiness-project.com (Gretchen Rubin).
It seems that every year has its challenges and rewards, some years more challenges and letdowns than usual. So, psychologically I love the beginning of a new year where you can feel that it's a 'fresh start' and hopefully, things will go a *little* better, and you strive from the first day of January to feel more positive and work harder towards making that year to come absolutely wonderful!
I am looking forward to 2010 because 2009 was so diffucult for us as a nation. I'm looking forward to recommiting myself to the frugal lifestyle and living simply. Even though I am extemely frugal, I do slip a little over the Christmas season even with a Christmas budget. I'm excited for the nation as I think most people will continue to look at wants vs. needs a little more closely, pay down debt and save like they were forced to do in 2009. I hope this becomes a lifestyle change for the nation and not just a temporary bandaid.
hopeful, and acting on it! I'm gearing for a new job next year!
