Make sure to compare prices and use them against each other if possible. Last year my wife and I did an overnight trip to a touristy area a few hours away from home. It was slightly off season so we were able to call a few hotels while in the car, get their rates, then call back and start using the lower rates to drive the other prices down. We ended up finding a pretty good place, got a fully loaded suite, and at a great rate.
The Neti Pot can be great, but be careful if you've ever had your nose broken or other nasal problems as it can lead to lliquid getting trapped in there and lot of unpleasantness.
Saline nasal drops worked better for me - a couple of drops, tilt head back for a bit, then blow your nose, followed by a nasal spray if it's really bad.
I use craigslist all the time, have gotten furniture and other assorted goods on there at wonderful prices, but i would have to say the best deal i got is my girlfriend of now 5 months. i know there are many horror stories about personal ads on CL but i was forced into doing it by a friend of mine after my 3 year relationship with my ex ended and i was doing nothing but sitting around. luckily my lovely new girl was on at just the right time and we have been together ever since.
You guys are definitely over reacting to nothing.... I have been a Netspend user for 3 years now. They are essentially a bank, which handles your money, and gives you the use of a debit card with online account access, direct deposit, money management tools, savings accounts, etc. They do everything a bank would do except charge you outrageous amounts of fees for transactions and overdrafts. I pay 5 dollars a month with unlimited transactions, and 2 dollar atm cash withdrawls. Compare that to the 60 dollars a month average I was paying in overdrafts with Chase for my poor money management skills, and a retard can figure out the math. I'm almost disgusted by your distaste for this company because I have never in my 3 years dealing with them had any sort of issue. Do a little more research before kicking a reputable company in the nuts. Just my 2 cents.
I love Craigslist. I use it all the time. I do some buying, but mostly I sell stuff. If I have something I don't use, or has lost usefulness and sat around for a year. It will end up on Craigslist. I'm very careful about buying and selling. So luckily I haven't come across any bad deals.
ALWAYS give complete and accurate measurements and any details about the condition of the item (You'll waste your time as well as that of others by not mentioning the details that affect saleability). Size, materials, age, etc. are key factors in determining whether someone wants to buy.
Don't play games and think that making them call or e-mail you to get information will up your sell-through. It won't. People who don't put basic information in an ad are an auto turn-off to most serious buyers.
Also important to know for city dwellers: Whether you're in an elevator building or walk-up.
As both a seller and buyer on craigslist, I've wasted more time with people who don't give complete information. I've learned and I no longer waste time when people either don't include info or don't answer the questions I ask when I email or call them.
Some people simply don't want to take the time to do the work of selling. That said, I've gotten some great stuff and had very positive experiences.
Watch your wording in the ads. It tells the potential buyer a great deal and being wise-ass and demanding about how you will sell something will turn people off.
I was one of the first to get hit by the car scams. Thank goodness I didn't actually ship my car to Nigeria. I've found some great roommates, and also plenty of potential roommates that suggested "clothing optional" living situations. Currently, I'm using Craigslist to try to dig up sentimental items stolen from my grandmother's house. The site has it's pros and cons, but it is the best living newspaper to date.
My mom (a principal) found a really good teacher through craigslist. I've got a tutoring job and some furniture that way. Just be careful to meet in public places or with a companion.
I also once bought a hair iron through craigslist (with paypal) which turned out to be defective. After a couple of phone calls to paypal, I got most of my money back.
Craigslist is a wonderful concept. Too bad the craigslist for my area is about 99% spammers. I've listed items for sale and always always get about 10+ "replies" that sound suspiciously like spammers ("I'm interested in your item!") and very few legit replies. Ok, maybe that means nobody wants my stuff =) Anyways, another big minus is the tons of people who are selling fake LV, North Face, Chanel, etc on Craigslist. so anyway, no, I no longer use Craigslist.
I found my husband on craigslist! I know, what are the odds?! I posted an ad in the personals section, we emailed a bit, met up, and five years later are happily married.
I have used craigslist to sell things, and have the typical words of wisdom for buyers: meet in a public place, take someone with you, and listen to your gut. If something seems like a scam or a rip off, walk away.
Thankfully my husband wasn't a scam or a rip off! He just turned out to be an amazing and wonderful guy!
I've used Craigslist several times in the past. My most successful times have been when I sold all of the furniture in my old apartment. I made enought to pay off some of my debt. The most recent time is to find my current housemate. I was moving to a new city and wanted to find somewhere to live while I figured out the city. It turned out great! I like where I live and my housemate and I just renewed our lease.
I found my future wife on CL. We happened to meet by chance when I posted an ad on a rainy Friday night three years ago. I was new to the city and looking to meet some new friends. We ended up chatting online and things progressed from there -- we were married this past September!
So aside from the usual home furnishing dealings (all of which I've had no problems with), I'd say CL has been pretty good to me.
Oh forgot to post best and worst deals - worst would be my apartment in Providence, RI, which I looked at and found out about a shooting at later before I moved in, thankfully. Best would be my selling my Wii balance board for $100 which I was no longer using!
Yes, I use Craigslist all the time, for gigs, job searches, and selling and buying used stuff on the net. Even personals occasionally. It's a mixed bag, but mostly positive experiences.
Get Target's REDcard and save 5% on all your purchases at Target. Everyone who shops at Target should get one. It's instant savings, not some cashback or rewards program. It may not be much but it's 5% you wouldn't get otherwise.
OH I forgot to share this in my earlier post. My husband and I were looking for a used dishwasher for a rental property. The guy who we bought it from on Craigslist said he could install it for an extra $50. Turns out he was an amazing handyman, who we hired to help us get the house in condition after a tenant trashed it. I don't know what we would do without him. He just installed a new stove for us. So, I guess you could say the handyman came with the dishwasher!
I have used Craigslist for buying and selling. None of my listings on there have sold but I have purchased many items on there. My hubby uses it often to find discounted items for his business (construction and bio-fuels). I have purchased homeschool curriculum on it at a fraction of the retail price.
My brother-in-law has great sucess with Craigslist. He buys and sells with great ease. He has purchased items, refurbished them, then sold them back for profit on Craigslist.
I have used Craigslist to sell mostly. I had a city coupon book & sold the golf coupons from it. I had won carpet tiles at a sustainability fair & don't think I'd have been able to sell them otherwise. I rent so I had no need for them. But what do you know? My buyer was a landlord.

Appreciate your site... and a gift card would be cool, too.

I've no idea about Craigslist before, but I feel interested in it now. Anyway, I will have a try.

I have sold a number of items over the last year or so. A down jacket, a fleece jacket, and an ipod speaker system. Love me some Craigslist!
Great way to sell unwanted items and get some cash. You just have to be careful!

I have used craigslist to buy a treadmill--got a great deal too!

I love craigslist. Here's our latest success story http://www.frugalapolis.com/2011/03/another-craigslist-success-story.html
