You have to be able to get on line to back up or to retrieve your back up. ISPs have been known to go down for minutes or days. In the even of a real disaster, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, you might not be able to access vital data for weeks.
Far better ins a external hard drive that can be quickly disconnected and removed to safety in case of disaster. Like gym memberships or home exercise equipment, you do have to use it and use it faithfully. I'm a believer and these have saved my data more than once.
Definitely! While many subjects learned in school come into play during the rest of life in varying degrees, personal finance is something everyone can benefit from knowing. I learned a little here and there throughout school, but I think having it a full class on it would have given me (and everyone else) a strong foundation of knowledge to start from.
I got a text that my net spend card had been deactivated. The trouble is I never had a net spend card and did not know who they were and the number 7042487728 they said to call is not a working number. I am reporting this to the federal trade commission. I think this is a bunch of scammers and they will be stopped.
I am having trouble getting my must up to a decent percentage of aclohol by volume. I am using the proportions mentioned above (5lbs sugar to 3 gallons water). I am also using a distillers yeast that is advertised as being able to survive to %18 alcohol. I add yeast nutrient as recommended, but can't seem to get more than about 3%-4% ABV in my must. I have a controlled temperature environment with sterilized containers, and have taken pains to eliminate any inconsistencies in my fermenting procedures. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Invest like a robot. Automatic investment each month helps me deal with the manic behavior of the market at times.
Disclosure: i just started this. It's an unproven theory. I'll let you know how I do.
I mostly love Trader Joe's ,though their is one thing I am disappointed in. Almost all of their snacks, crackers, cookies, etc. are processed on machinery that process nuts. With a nut allergy in the house we have to forgo all of those items.
Excellent post as always David. Both my husband and I have fully retired in Lebanon, PA and we've always believed in how spending habits affect one's retirement plan. If you're living frugally and find ways to earn even before retirement, you'll find in yourself in better fiscal situation than those who spend, spend, spend while they're still working.
Excellent post. I'm nearing retirement and your solutions are so far one of the most comprehensive. It matters so much to know if one's on track for retirement. Both my parents were prepared and both have asked themselves questions including those you've mentioned. And now they're happily retired at Alden Place in Lebanon County, Pa.
I had a weird rash once; finally got bad enough I went to the dermatologist, who prescribed some generic ointment. When I picked it up at the pharmacy, the pharmacist told me that dermatologists don't know what causes most rashes, so that was the treatment of choice, which sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. The rash finally went away for the most part, but I suspect it's some kind of viral thing that just has to run its course.
My current peeve is the homeopathic HCG diet, which not only gouges people for the magic drops but also puts them on a dangerous starvation-level diet (500 calories/day).
Good article. I fully believe in herbal remedies (many synthetic drugs got their start as plant-based medicines, Valium from Valerian root, for example), and I think poor diet topped by vitamin deficiencies are behind a lot of common illnesses. That said, Im very skeptical of homeopathy, but I have tried a few homeopathic products (for nausea and persistent sinus problems), and I cannot lie: they worked. Or, at least I "thought" they did.
It makes no scientific sense, I know. However, the placebo effect is an incredibly powerful thing, and if homeopathy helps harness it. Great. However, I think it should strictly be relegated to minor, mild, low-level, hardly-worth-mentioning ailments.
o boy all comments are amazing; glad i came here. last year i completed many things yet realized the main thing that is holding me back, from really moving forward, is still to be dealt with so am glad to note the above reply regarding FEAR. anyways my goals are 1. to not feed of off others good energy and ensure to always create my own 2. Keep all Simples 3.constantly clear clutter and obstacles 4. go off round the world immediately!...n take guitar, thats hung on wall; for twenty years and still needs to be learnt!
Hi Sonja,
Where do you buy your flours in bulk? How much is a "bulk"?
I just read pretty much every gluten free post you have....my husband of 6 months is gluten free, and I've just been using the all-purpose store mix. I'm trying to branch out!
Our favorite frugal Valentine's tradition: heart-shaped homemade pizza and movie night at home for the family. Even the kids love it! Our other favorite frugal celebration is a candlelight at-home dinner with filet mignon, twice baked potatoes, some great dessert, and the kids eating up in the library upstairs. Works for all of us!
Remember to prove it is actually the homeopathy curing your ailment it will have to be analyzed to show there is no actual medicine in it. The homeopath you used may actually be guilty of "hoemopathic malpractice" and giving you some actual compound in a concentration sufficient to react with your biochemistry - which then cured your rash. However this then is not a homeopathic cure.
From my point of view - Believing in a causal physical universe - there is no way one can win the challenge.
As Tim Minchin (a comedian) says in his poem "Storm",
"If you show me
That, say, homeopathy works,
Then I will change my mind
I’ll spin on a f***ing dime
I’ll be embarrassed as hell,
But I will run through the streets yelling
It’s a miracle! Take physics and bin it!
Water has memory!
And while it’s memory of a long lost drop of onion juice is Infinite
It somehow forgets all the poo it’s had in it!"
Let us know how that goes Gus. Remember, real scientific proof is needed. They will want to run tests on the medication to see what it contains (if anything) and then I assume run those tests on other sufferers in a double-blind study. Remember, the placebo effect can be quite powerful, but that won't get you $1 million. Saying it worked won't do it either. If you bag the money, I will do a follow-up article with you.
Absolutley great article. I love to hear bursts of reason in the world. I can't understand why homeopaths aren't terrified of all the "huge doses" of medicine they drink with every cup of water. Imagine all the memories a glass of tap has? How do they even expect to have any control of their concoctions? Our water has a few billion years of memory that comes with it. Who knows what your getting. Its a scary world for homeopaths...
Great article, all i can say is ram ram ram ram, that is the main factor almost always. upgrading your processor is rarely a solution.

I would sleep a lot, eat a lot, holiday a lot, and buy a lot!!!!!

I have to say, after all the comments today, this just about sums it up for me:

Homeopathy *is* doing nothing.
Hey thanks so much for the link! I really appreciate it!
I could not agree more on the bathroom cleaning.

OK, heart-shaped homemade pizza sounds awesome. I'm sold.

Sorry Leia, but "Negative Calorie Foods" have been dubunked too. If you don't believe me, believe Time magazine. http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1896439_18963...
