Eric, well at least you've been to Europe. We finally made it to Canada for the first time (I live in WA state so that's bad.) I would love to visit other countries.
I just started a new one last night and here are a few things I have on it so far: lose 10 lbs, lose 20lbs, lose 50 lbs, visit Belize in 2012, take a full immersion Spanish class in central Mexico, visit Las Vegas within month, learn Tai chi, take a cooking class, own a good camera and take a photography class (perhaps in 2011 if i can budget it). I try and put small goals, big goals and time frames so I get them done. Things I have accomplished off my last list: start a business, debt free, own a home, take the kids to Mexico, learn about investing. good luck everyone and have fun!
I really like the idea of paying down your debt with this extra money. Who doesn't have debt these days? If you were getting by with your old paycheck, it only makes sense to contribute this 2% to getting out of debt. Especially if you're married and have two incomes. Then you're talking 4% towards debt that wouldn't otherwise be there. I hope people realize this opportunity and take advantage of it while they can!
Thank you for asking! Travel to all 50 states with my hubby & children in an RV. Enjoy a performance of traditional Japanese theater in Japan with hubby, and while there take in a traditional drum performance as well as a full course dinner. Educate my children to achieve college entrance. Sail in the Caribbean with hubby at the helm. Travel with Kaye Arthur to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Travel to Europe and visit some of the fantastic places Rick Steves has been-especially Majorca and the Norwegian fjords. To walk the great Wall of China with my hubby. To spend a Christmas in Australia on the beach. Take my children and grandchildren to Disney enjoying their happiness.
I would like to spend a month traveling in India - specifically the coasts. I was raised in Durban, South Africa, and when I see images of beaches in India, they look so similar to my land of birth ... I'd like to sit on a beach ACROSS the Indian ocean from Africa.
I would like to travel! I haven't been out of the country (well aside from Canada) since the mid-'90s, and would like to revisit Europe and see some new places.
I would love to take my kids to Greece. My oldest son, who is graduating from college in May, took a 2 year intensive Greek class at his Prep school and it would be nice for him to be able to use it!
I use Peapod online to deliver groceries to my college son, he is in Chicago and we are in PA. Love it! Also, they make a donation to my other son's nonprofit speedskate club with every purchase through Goodshop.com!
I am a very logical person, so the problem is getting around to the list. 1. skydiving (set for our 10 yr wedding anniversary, so 4 more years to prepare) 2. travel abroad 3. I know kind of non-specific yet... I want to keep challenge myself to learn things I never imagined I could do
I'm all for saving costs on pet supplies (I'm an avid coupon clipper and often scour coupon sources for cat food coupons that my fussy kitties actually like and eat - a challenge!). The one thing about making or creating your own: I actually tried growing my own catnip, which seemed like a great idea. The cats have never shown any interest at all in the fresh or dried plants I grew. They go absolutely crazy over the store-bought stuff then walk right by my home-grown - LOL! Guess the "premium seeds" I bought weren't quite so premium.
One thing to look out for in pet food is "bone meal."
A friend of mine who just became a vet says it's unhealthy and disgusting. In class they dissolved dog food made from bone meal and it was full of animal hair and other stuff. There are also reports that it contains unsafe levels of flouride, which could be toxic.
Most dog food sold at the grocery store contains bone meal - even name brands.
Instead of pet insurance, a lot of people just have a set savings account for vet bills because it's less restrictive as to what it can be spent on (some insurance plans are better than others and it often depends on what kind of illness your animal comes down with). I've noticed that on recent personal finance blog posts about pet expenses, that concept has gained some favor. (For full disclosure I do this instead of having pet insurance for the reasons I cited.)
Those making their own pet food should research it well - there are many varied opinions about this out there for both dogs and cats and cats in particular need specific things in their food (taurine). While I believe it can be done well, I do believe it takes time, research and commitment and unfortunately there are only a few DVMs who will go out on a limb and guide/advise with regards to homemade pet food because of either the risk to the pet if the owner isn't responsible about it or their lack of pet nutritional training (plus a lot of vets sell prescription food, which is a profit for them).
Thanks for writing about pets - and helping to keep pets in their homes but helping people afford them!
Heading out tomorrow with my best college girlfriend for 5 days of films & fun at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. We've both had this on our "bucket lists" for over a decade!
escape from quicksand? wow, I would never want to get stuck in quicksand in order to escape. I have always wanted to learn to ride.
