Unforunately, sometimes a mate can pull the wool over one's eyes {way too long} before you realize what is going on. I may of ended up broke, but not as bad as the other girl. She lost her inheritance {that her parents worked hard for} to a 6-month swanky condo rental and a 65 mustang {in his name} that was totaled. Ouch!
You could have done a lot better by bidding for a 4-star hotel on Priceline. www.biddingfortravel.com gives info on how to bid effectively on Priceline using free re-bids. It works really great for large markets like Boston. I've never paid anywhere close to $150 for any 4-star hotel in the Boston area. Try it!
Bad Credit Cash Payday Loans is the best mode for the person who is locked in many pending bills and thay have not enough cash to pay for all these. That's just wonderful that the FSAs are being capped at $2500. (not!) This year and next we'll be using a lot of health care. We had our amount set to $3000 this year because we're having a baby and expect higher than normal expenses. It was nice to save a bit on taxes. Next year should be the same amount of spending for us, yet we won't be saving as much because of the health care provision. Kind of funny how so many thought the health care bill would make health care cost less, but for most people it means increased cost.
Big life decisions like these do have huge impacts on our financial lives. Too often people rush into these types of decisions on a whim, or without too much forethought. It's good to get a reminder from time to time that we need to take our time, think things through and realize the consequences of our actions.
Substitute Charter for Comcast, and you've just describe our experience with cable TV. Which is why we ONLY use Charter for broadband access now. All our TV needs are now met by a desktop computer hooked up to our television. Voila! There are options. Baaaad cable companies!!!
joshua, check out a page called "erowid psychoactive vaults". Got a lot of info on absinthe there. The main ingredient, apart from alcohol , is Wormwood. Has hallucinatory properties, apparently. Banned in a lot of countries. I wouldn't touch the stuff myself. Although you can actually buy it over the counter here.
I travel all the time, several times a month in fact and I swear by Hotwire when my Hotels aren't being booked for me or if I'm not at Hyatt where I have a platinum membership. If I have less than $100 to spend and I have to pay for it, I'm Hotwiring this joint all day. The thing I like about Hotwire is that even though it doesn't tell you the hotel name, it tells you the hotel type, it gives you a comparable list: Hyatt, Omni or Raddison, Crown Plaza etc. so that at least you know what type of Hotel you're getting. There are also surprises like a killer Boutique I once got in Chicago, a Central Park-bound one I got in New York and upscale places in Downtown LA, St. Louis and Minneapolis. And what I love: All of these Hotwire rooms were below $100 a night, some of them were below $80, dare I say the one's I book every month near LAX are below $70. I swear by it! F&&&&%%$in Hotwire! LOL:) Good quick and dirty post!
That's not true that servers don't get their debit/credit tips until they get their paycheck! Servers take home their tips at the end of the night by taking their electronic tips out of the cash they need to submit to the house. If I made $50 in electronic tips & had $250 in cash in my pouch from tables that paid cash, I'd return $200 to the house (plus tip out, whatever percentage that is varies from each restaurant). If I made $50 in electronic tips, but only had $40 in cash sales, the house would owe me $10 the next day. Servers ALWAYS get their tips right away. :)
There are yeasts everywhere—on fruit, in flour, floating in the air. Whatever random yeasts happen to be around can potentially be used to make the alcohol in your beer, wine, cider, or spirits. In fact, most wine is made with the wild yeasts that live on grapes.
There are several downsides to using wild yeasts.
The biggest is that there will be other microorganisms living along with the yeasts. In particular, there are the acidobacters that live on alcohol, turning it into acidic acid—they're what make vinegar, which is probably not what you have in mind. There are also lactobacilli that turn maltose (a key sugar in grain) into lactic acid—they're what make sourdough sour and also what give Belgian ale its distinctive sour taste. If you use wild yeasts, you will very possibly pick up one of these guys.
Probably next biggest is that some strains of yeast are more alcohol-tolerant than others. That's the big difference between brewers yeast and bakers yeast. The baker's yeast will die at around 10% alcohol, while brewers yeast can survive up to twice that. Using brewers yeast lets you get stronger wine and means you don't need as much distilling.
Finally, the wild strains are simply going to be different from one another. Some will be faster or slower, some will add off-flavors, and so on. Packaged yeast will simply be more consistent. That's not so important if you're making each individual batch as a one-off anyway, but there is some comfort in knowing that if you use the same yeast each time you can expect the same result.
The whole reason that people bring their wort to a boil is to kill any wild yeasts (and other microorganisms) that are living in it, so that they can add exactly the yeast they want. It provides consistency, and reduces the chance of ending up with vinegar.
Since having received a ticket 2 years ago (going with the flow of traffic on a road where I hadn't seen a speed sign yet) I am obnoxiously careful to stay under the speed. I will use my cruise control on those roads in town where I am inclined to go faster than the posted limit and especially in speed traps where the posted limit is artificially low. Yeah, I know I shouldn't, but I refuse to get another ticket.
In California this year the driver I was with got a speeding ticket for $425. He deserved it. It wasn't a speed trap but a great location for catching speeders.
I would have commented on your Frugalista blog, but I can't remember my password (or user id for that matter). Anyway, I am the guest who posted on this website about rash guards. Based on the swimset that you posted on Frugalista, I can see why you wouldn't want to put your girls in those! There are much cuter options out there. Landsend and Coolibar both have cute sun protective swimwear for girls (and some are cheaper than your Amazon example). I got my boys rashguards at gap, but I have to admit that I don't like gap's selection for girls.
If we let our kids know that it is "uncool" to wear rashguards, then they won't want to wear them. It's just like wearing helmets when riding bikes and seat belts in a car . . . what was once "uncool" has become the norm.
There most likely was not a "left lane" in a 40mph zone. If there were a slow-vehicle lane, then yes, I agree that you should move over if someone behind you would like to pass and you are occupying the faster lane. The issue is the "bully" factor. In my opinion, there is never an excuse for any driver to tailgate another driver regardless of the speed. You can flash your lights at them to communicate that you would like them to move over, but tailgating them is not only rude but more importantly, it is completely dangerous. If you are tailgating them when they are doing one mph over the posted speed limit, they are not the problem, you are.
Two questions that I have not found on this article (albeit I did not search too, too hard)
1st: Do you have any information on how to make natural yeasts... instead of using brewers yeast or bakers yeast... I mean how is the brewers yeast made...? I am a baker and am very familiar with various types of yeast; natural and "processed"
my intentions are to make an "organic" spirit; using constituents of my own manufacture...
2nd: Any words of wisdom on using a thump barrel...?
and just as a post script a third question... what wisdom can you share on the use of herbs in the post distillation; such would be used in the making of Absinthe... I do not wish to make any Absinthe (although good Absinthe is in high demand) but to add my own finishing touches to the spirits...
Your suggestions to "Do not give into road hogs and bullies" and "Do not be an aggressive driver" sure sound like conflicting advice.
The truck driver whose beard stubble you could see - was he, i.e. were you, in the left lane? Then you need to move over. Staying there when someone's behind you is an act of aggression. I'm sure the truck driver appreciated you doing your part to help him avoid getting a speeding ticket, but that's his business. There are signs on the highways - "Slower Traffic Keep Right". It's not an empty gesture, it's a directive every bit as important as the speed limit signs.
Good article, as always! I don't have a Whole Foods by me, but I do have a few other stores. In fact, just yesterday, I picked up cage-free eggs for $0.69 a dozen (on clearance, plus a store coupon). And I was so proud of the retailer - there were 12 dozen or so Organic Omega-3 Eggs that were a few days beyond the sell by date. I commented to the lady marking down the eggs that I did by that it was too bad I couldn't by those. She responded that it was too bad, but at least they wouldn't go to waste because they were on their way to the food bank. In Arizona, we have what it called the "Good Neighbor Law" where stores can donate food that is still perfectly good, but can't be sold to local food banks! From what I can gather, many of the major retailers around here participate.
I have been using my wife's old pantyhose for years on the washing machine discharge hose. They collect all the lint, that will clog up your drain pipes. They are also great to put chemicals into your swimming pool. They disperse them gradually into your pool water. As long as you leave them dangling in the pool water, they will last a LONG time. Once they are exposed to the air, the chlorine soaked nylon will deteriate in no time.
wow that sounds weird but really really good. I think i will try that sometime :) o and whoever said meat doesn't go with cheese has obviously never heard of chili cheese dogs, Philly cheese steaks... etc.
Thank you for this review. I found your assessment a helpful adjunct to checking the Bukisa site itself. Since Associated Content got 'too hard' I've been looking for a decent place to park my pre-loved articles. This could just be the go. Best regards, P. :)
People don't seem to be understanding this "I got a check" concept. If someone, anyone, sends you a check and asks you to cash it and send any part of the money anywhere - IT IS A SCAM. You don't need to check out the company, you don't need to contact BBB, you won't get anywhere reporting them to the police -- just throw it in the trash. ANYONE, no matter how valid they seem, that asks you to do this is scamming you. If they mention a company name, rest assured they don't work for that company. Walmart, Maritz, JC Penney - doesn't matter - IT IS A SCAM. Don't do anything but throw it away.
It was my English degree that got me a Technical Writing Internship at a Fortune 500 company.
The degree and the work experience it brought me has been extremely valuable.

If you can't afford to tip, then you can't afford to go out to dinner. Stay at home & eat some ramen noodles.
