I WAS WONDERING THAT TOO- I HAD AN "INCIDENT" WITH A TREE A FEW YEARS BACK (caps, sorry). I think I'm going to try the plunging and can of air method, but I doubt it will work for me since it is fairly deep. I figure, what the heck. My car is old and whenever I trade it in, it will probably be used for scrap anyway. Anyways, here's hoping.
I noticed that soemone had inquired as to how to change thier Korean LG model LC-516M to code free. Was there ever a response. Thanks in advance for any assistance that can be offered.
Being willing to walk away is always key to a successful negotiation. Although walking away from a Mr. X is a reasonable choice, as long as you're willing to walk away, you also have the option to go ahead and deal with him in a "positional approach" negotiation--go ahead and ask for enough that you can negotiation down to what you're willing to accept.
It sucks to have to do that. It's not pleasant and it takes time that could be spent doing something useful; worse, there's always the danger of accidentially doing so with Messrs A and B, thereby harming a potentially positive relationship. Still, if there's interesting, profitable work to be done, you have the option of letting Mr. X be the one to walk away, by sticking to your guns.
I love the make-up! It's cheap, but lots of fun, and if you don't like the color, they let you take it back, even if you've tried it out. Thanks for the tips!
I know someone else has already said this in so many words, but I wanted to vent my personal frusteration. I've noticed that there are almost NO restaurants AT ALL that have the 3 piece chicken selects with game pieces anymore. I live in the suburbs and commute to the city. I have my choice of 6 McD's en route. I have gone to ALL SIX and only ONE of them had pieces on the box! They know that this is one of the most popular meals for obtaining game pieces so they should make tons extra. And I have a big dance audition soon so I shouldn't be eating this crap, I only do because I think I have a chance at winning some money to pay off my student loans. I've known it was rigged to a degree but thought I had a shot at the online game - after reading this I see that I don't so I guess I should just quit while I'm ahead :-/
This is excellent advice. There's a great book on this same topic called "Crucial Conversations," which explains many types of communication errors and describes the best ways to achieve mutual purpose.
I went to a week-long *spa* (very much budget in the woods of tennessee)) this summer and they certainly believed in the small plates concept at meals. It works!
I also learned how to ~not~ eat after 6:30 at night. It is amazing what a difference that makes. I still don't understand why my ice cream sandwich craving comes on at 11pm each night, but I know it is my downfall.
:-)
Anyway, thanks for the great articles; I am always compelled to reply when I read a Paul Michael (or is that Michale Paul?) blog entry.
His experiments are excellent. I loved the never-ending soup bowl. Just goes to show how bad we've all become at gauging our own appetites. Thanks for reading, Michelle.
With a toddler, I too am experiencing the rise in battery use in my household. I was excited to see that you had a list of alternative options, but disappointed that really only the flashlight would be much fun for my two year old.
Can you make any suggestions of alternative energy toys that do things battery powered toys do without the battery requirement?
Meanwhile, don't fret too much. We have swapped to a wholly rechargable battery household, so much less landfill waste.
Dr. Wansink is my advisor at school! I loved seeing blurbs about his book here and on the other blogs I read regularly because it makes me feel just a little special inside :-) I've even participated in some of his experiments - free lunch plus $5 for participating? Tell me that's not a good deal!
I never bother to look at what kind of cap the wine has. One time, my friend & I were opening a bottle (ok, the 3rd of the evening...), and we were trying to figure out why the screw wasn't working... when we figured out it was a metal screw-cap! Ha!
Walgreens may not be the most glamorous store, but I stock up on the free or near-free items every week. I buy most of our body wash and toothpaste that way, and we donate free items that we can't use. Also -- our local Walgreens doesn't stock much of each item, but they will give rain checks. If I'm going back every week, I take the time to get a rain check for free items and purchase them if available before the rebate deadline.
you slow down. The longer it takes you to eat, the more signals you are giving your stomach that you are getting full. Like many of us I'm sure you're pressed for time, but all of us eat way too quickly. What's more, we eat even more quickly when we eat alone. If you can, make sure you eat with at least one other person, and converse a little during your meal. In France, the meal is not just a meal...it's an occasion for talk, social interaction and fun. Food doesn't have to be just fuel. And if you must have second helpings, wait a few minutes before going back. That may give your stomach time to catch up. Another story from Dr. Wasnick suggests you say out loud "I'm going to go and eat some more, even though I'm not that hungry." The sheer act of saying that out loud may be enough to stop you. Also, drink a large glass of water before you second plate. We often confuse thirst and hunger.
Why don't you use a smaller plate for a second helping? Supposing you just want a little morsel to feel complete, taking a small teacup plate could satisfy the craving while giving you less food than your first serving.
I have a problem. When I eat in small plates I think I am eating less and tend to take second helpings....now that means I am doubling up mu intake. What do I do??
Hi Nora, in the UK we have a Ps2 program named Eye Toy Kinetics, is that the same program? If it is you are right it's a fantastic program. My 12 year old boy and myself use it every day religously and I have to say I feel fitter, stronger and have more stamina than I had 15 years ago!

I always collect Monopoly pieces when Mickey D's starts the game, although I never bother with the online stuff. I'm a bit old-school, although my kids call me technically challenged, and it's a miracle I found your site, but I'm very glad I did. Anyway, I've been eating and playing all month at various MD's around northern Kentucky and in Las Vegas during vacation. Saturday I bought breakfast for the girls at work and one of them offered their game pieces to me since she knew I'd been playing. Low and behold, it was a green one, the first green one that I had seen since the start. My mind started churning and I realized this has to be one of the select pieces to make a winning combination. I figured there had to be a way to connect with others online to get the other pieces needed and share in the $50,000 prize. My biggest dilemma was how much should I give to my friend as a finder's fee, since I technically bought it and then she gave it willingly to me. Of course, that problem has quickly vanished, since finding your site and realizing that North Carolina isn't the special green piece after all. Thanks for the quick info and I'll be sure to check your site when the game begins next time so I'll know what to be looking for. In the meantime, keep playing that lottery!
Again, I'm no tax expert. However, I'm pretty sure that IRAs of all types are per-person. You not only don't need to open a single Roth IRA for the two of you, I'm pretty sure that you can't--the IRA needs to be for a specific person (whose age will be the one that determines when you can take money out without penalty, etc.).
The contribution limits vary depending on your filing status, but if you both qualify, you can both open a Roth.
I dont eat at McDonalds but everyone I know does, so they give me the codes off their game pieces, so far I have won 2 monopoly games on line. Only problem with that is Real Arcade will charge u after having the game a month. So u cant keep thye game forever. Also I;ve noticed that playing on line the dice roll one number, count how many spaces and ur game token moves either one to many or one not enough.several times I was to be on
"go" and it moved to the next space.
I've asked elsewhere, but never received a clear answer. Neither me nor my wife have a Roth IRA today, but are planning to start one by the end of this year. Can we BOTH start one each, or since we file our income taxes jointly does that compel us to start one joint Roth IRA?
* Single filers: Up to $99,000 (to qualify for a full contribution); $99,000-$114,000 (to be eligible for a partial contribution)
* Joint filers: Up to $156,000 (to qualify for a full contribution); $156,000-$166,000 (to be eligible for a partial contribution)
* Married filing separately (if the couple lived together for any part of the year): $0 (to qualify for a full contribution); $0-$10,000 (to be eligible for a partial contribution).
Since both of us earn money, that third bullet seems to exclude the option of two separate IRAs...
I was in line behind someone at CVS, and the cash register actually rang up a NEGATIVE amount..meaning they owed the customer money! The clerk actually did a double take! CVS has these Extra Care Bucks...use the program and coupons, and you can really go to town. You can read more about the program at their website, but apparently, it has a cult following with shoppers picking up items for basically FREE on a regular basis. Check out http://billyoceanseleven.wordpress.com/2007/04/07/free-stuff-at-cvs/ and follow the links on his site to learn more about it. I haven't put a lot into the program myself, but even I have saved quite a bit of $$ with it!

I think you officially qualify as my first loyal reader. Or should that be replier? Now I'm confusing myself.

I knew there was a reason why I ate less at home. I never had room for large plates in the kitchen drawer.

From the Wikipedia's list of limits:

* Single filers: Up to $99,000 (to qualify for a full contribution); $99,000-$114,000 (to be eligible for a partial contribution)
