Personally I think that if you need conditioner, you're using the wrong shampoo. I've found that using an oil-based, detergent-free liquid soap cleans very well without stripping. Walgreen's makes a good one (Peach Nut Oil Soap) and of course there's always Dr. Bronner's.

  • How to travel to and from Canada   18 years 43 weeks ago

I got a tee-shirt from Canada with an Inukshuk on it and the words "Canada Rocks Eh?" ;-)

My friend traveler, she took a picture at the customs area and the customs officer Peacock went through her digital camera and had her erase the picture of the sign "Welcome to America" (or was it to US?) and a few others she had taken in a different airport.

Here is an idea for an American tee: "American Democracy (read: Dictatorship)"

My mom is allergic to aloe. You have NO idea how many creams have aloe until you're avoiding it!!

The absolute BEST cream I ever got for my mom was one I got from an eBay seller. The cost? Two CENTS. The seller was offering two ounce, custom-scented samples for less than the cost of the empty jar, with any purchase of two items. I got a scrub (which I now make at home, but this was far less expensive than comparable store items), a room/linen spray (I don't usually use it, but I may have a pending surgery), and dry oil, which I haven't "gotten down" yet but which I love for a quick moisturizer for my tattoos (it leaves no shine). I loved the products I got for myself; they're as good as, if not better than, mass-produced, and the three + my mom's lotion cost less than one 1-oz lotion in a department store.

TWO cents. My mom's been using a dab here and there, as needed, for a few months. She's still got a goodly amount left. Furthermore, I helped an individual's business, and not a corporation.

i've used dove cream oil body wash as a shave cream since it came out. i've even gotten my sister hooked on it. its AMAZING. i dont think anyone should go with out conditioner though because it slowly dries out your hair to not use it and eventually your hair will be worse off without it...

What you said makes SO much sense.
I'm having nearly the same problems.
I've been working in this hell hole for only nearly 2 years now and everyday all I experience is a stupid boss who have favorites among my co-workers, and co-workers who does nothing but whisper stupid gosip about me and try to make me look bad. So I avoid most of them and only talk to the ones I like and they call me anti-social and a big a-hole!
I do pretty much what you said and just don't bother with them.. I just focus on work. I mean, I just came there to work and earn cash and I have no interest in sinking myself low to idiots like them.

I'd say go without the shampoo instead! I haven't used shampoo in years. I merely massage my hair with conditioner and then wash thorough every 3-5 days! Once your hair's moisture gets back in balance, you'll never need that drying, damaging shampoo again!

If you MUST use shampoo, avoid Sodium Laurel Sulfate. It destroys (dries) your hair!!

  • Possible Backlash Against Cheap Imports?   18 years 43 weeks ago

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN BUY QUALITY GOODS FROM CHINA?? EVEN WITHOUT KNOWING

Did you know that there are QUALITY GOODS MADE IN CHINA??? Just that Walmart prefers to import the cheapest sh** available.

Did you know that 80% of well known quality goods are made in China? Did you know that Ipod parts are MADE IN CHINA, and get assembled in US???!!! Nike shoes, clothing, etc are MADE IN CHINA!!! Also Samsung, sony, nokia!

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE CHAIRS AND DESKS IN THE PENTAGON ARE MADE IN CHINA??? They are bought from an online company based in US, who IMPORTS ALL THEIR PRODUCTS FROM CHINA. Check it out on youtube, there's a little documentary about it. They are quality goods, but CHEAP.

Even if it is Made in USA, 75% of it's FROM CHINA! USA exports wood chips to china, and buy back paper. Export raw iron and import steel poles, car parts, computer parts. Export oil and import plastic products. Do you guys even know that plastic is made mainly from oil??

Soon it's going to be GOOD NEWS TO FATHERS OVERSEAS (especially in China)! WHY? Because USA is going to export wife and import sons!!!

Cetaphil is my favorite moisturizer and I discovered it upon the recommendation of a dermatologist who was treating my son for eczema. According to the doctor, lotions (as opposed to creams) have ingredients that may dry skin rather then moisturize them. There are also generic equivalents to cetaphil that seem to work well with our family, and are less expensive.

  • How to Survive a Road Trip   18 years 43 weeks ago

Nice blog! Well, summer is one of the most anticipated time of the year. It is the time when most people plan for a road trip and vacation. If its going to be a long travel, it is necessary to ensure that car and its parts like for instance gmc fuel pump is checked and maintained well. This is to ensure that all parts are in good condition so as to avoid mishaps when traveling. A well maintained car gives us confidence when driving and we are sure that we are safe. I am so excited to have my vacation next week and also preparing my car for the said travel. Happy driving and have fun. :)

I agree with you on most of these, but the conditioner. I, personally, haven't had much luck with the two'n'one combos. There are many conditioners out there that are very inexpensive & work, that I don't think that this is a luxury. In fact, you can use it as a shaving cream (for you legs @ least), and it takes off mascara as well!

If you do splurge on a hand cream, make sure it has SPF in it!

  • Win a Burt's Bees Essential Body Kit   18 years 43 weeks ago

I bought 2 squeeze type bottles from walmart. the kind you use for vinegar and oil or ketchup and mustard and I put a blop of my shampoo in one and another blop of my conditioner in the other then I fill each bottle about 1/2 full with warm water and then I shakey shakey shakey !!!! The shampoo sudses up BIG TIME and I can do my shoulder length thick hair a couple of times. The conditioner only takes a small amount this way. It almost acts like a cream rinse but better.

I've not used shaving cream in years. I shave in the shower, and always start with a good cleanser (I like the Citrus Scrub from Noxzema), and then shave with a good razor (one of the ones with a thousand blades and the nice soothing strip at the top) under the spray. I've not had razor burn or any other irritation in years, and I rarely ever cut myself. I wouldn't even think of going back to shaving cream.

My grandmother used to have a solution for rough skin on hands or feet: Coat them in Vaseline before bed, then put clean socks over them (hands or feet). In the morning, you'll be smoother than Barry White.

  • When greed backfires - an iPhone story.   18 years 43 weeks ago

I mean, it was pretty well-known that none of the stores were going to sell more than one iPhone to each customer. I'm not even following the iPhone madness, and that information had somehow filtered down to me.

I think the phone is cool and all that but the coolest thing is watching some over indulgent country club bimbo hose herself out of $800.00 of her husbands money I'll probably only say this just this once "way to go at&t"

  • How to Avoid Foreclosure   18 years 43 weeks ago

I work for www.CurrentForeclosures.com and we have noticed a huge increase in the number of foreclosures across the country over the past year. I believe it is partially a result of subprime lending and ARM loans. To avoid foreclosure, buyers need to be aware of the intricacies of their home loans, and know what they are getting into, both short term and long term.

  • Edible Flowers Make Cheap Food Beautiful Again   18 years 43 weeks ago

Eating zucchini flowers in Italy is a common practice that few know about outside of the country, (yes, we do eat more than pasta!)

Typically what's done is they take a zucchini flower, stuff it with mozzarella pieces and anchovy paste, then close it off, fry it in oil and serve it up. I personally don't like it, but my father who grew up there cites it as one of his favorite things to have!

I have a pool similar to the one shown in the pictures (it's actually a little larger) and there's no way you can get that up in 15 minutes unless:

    1. You have a perfectly horizontal surface (more than 2" drop from one side to the other & I guarantee a kid will dump 70% of the water out by accidentally leaning on the low side). It took me a day to build a sandpit to put ours on (including building a frame, filling with sand, and leveling the sand).

    2. You have a fire hose to fill it in 15 minutes or less; ours takes 6 hours with 2 regular hoses & street pressure.

having said that it's a life saver we're on our 3rd year now and the kids (and therefore the wife) love it! Just remember to stay on top of the chemical treatment or it will turn green in a week!

It was only when caper berries started gaining popularity as a martini garnish that I came to realize that capers themselves are actually pickled flower buds. Who knew?

I just bought some rose hip jam the other day. I'm going to have to crack it open tonight over some fresh bread. I can't grow roses where I live, so I have to eat vicariously through my grocery delivery service.

    Great post, Linsey!

  • What was your best purchase in the past year?   18 years 43 weeks ago

I have been researching diamonds, checking out prices and figuring out what I could afford, for the better part of the year. While I was looking online, I found a diamond (IF, H-G, Ideal, .5C, GIA certified) for $1200. Great buy compared to the rest of the websites that I was looking at, and not to mention it was a fairly rare stone.

  • ‘Secret’ Attraction   18 years 43 weeks ago

    Dear Ed,

If you will send me your mailing address, I would like to send you a complimentary copy of a new edition of Napoleon Hill's classic "Think and Grow Rich." It is "Think and GRow Rich!" (subtitled) "The Original Version, Restored and Revised."

I am the editor/annotator of this new edition, the first ever to have endnotes (more than 50 pages of them), an index, and an appendix with a wealth of attention about Napoleon Hill and his work.

In doing my reseach on the book I was surprised to learn just how altruistic Napoleon Hill and his book really are. There is a deep "spiritual" dimension to the book that people who have never read it would never suspect. It is a book about how, yes, to be successful in life, but Hill always stresses how real success comes only through rendering useful service to others. The Golden Rule was very important to Hill, and it permeates all of his thinking and writing.

If you will read some of the testimonials in the book (visit http://tgr-restored-revised.com/testimonials.htm) and will study the endnotes after you receive it, I believe you will come to the same conclusion I did: This is a rich, multidimensional work that does indeed teach the practical steps to attaining success -- in every aspect of life that means anything. It's a book that can change people's lives -- and help change the world. TGR is the wellspring from which "The Secret" and all other positive attitude movements flow.

Thanks for your time and attention. I hope to hear from you.

    With all best wishes,

    Ross Cornwell
