  • 20 Ways to Beat Insomnia and Get Better Sleep   14 years 42 weeks ago

I would love to see that research. Alcohol is a depressant, and like most depressants, after the depressant affect wears off, you become more alert. That's why the article stated that it interferes with the "second" half of your sleep cycle, not the first. That's why after drinking alcohol you may "pass out" but wake up about 4 hours later and are unable to fall back to sleep.

This works the same way having too much of a stimulant may work for a few hours, but them you crash and want a nap. That is why coffea, or coffee, is recommended for insomnia in homeopathy. At first, you are more alert, but when you crash, you'll sleep like a baby.

  • Gigwalk: Get Paid While You Walk!   14 years 42 weeks ago

Wow, someone's in a bad mood! Honestly, if you can afford to go out to dinner, an extra $5 is not going to break the bank. There are enough good reasons why someone would want a menu before going out. Maybe a new place just opened up and you want an idea of how expensive the place is before you go. Maybe you or your dinner mates have special dietary needs (vegan, diabetic, kosher, gluten-free, etc) and you want to make sure that everyone will actually be able to eat something when you get there. Secondly, if this app does get taken up by a lot of individuals, I imagine the people paying will fall into two groups: those with more money than time and those who just think the idea is neat. The former will always exist in ANY economy. The latter are pretty likely to sign up to do gigs for others as well. If I pay you $5 to snap a photo of the menu at that new sushi place near your house, and you pay someone else $5 to snap a photo of the attire at the new bar near their house, you've lost $0 and made two people's lives a little easier. Or you could sit on your butt on the internet and whine about what other people choose to do with their spare time and pocket money.

  • 25 Great Movies About Money   14 years 42 weeks ago

My all time favorite movie is a fictional tale based on a man who is laid off from his engineering job. Mom goes to work and leaves Dad at home with the kids to enjoy a little domesticity.

Mr. Mom of course! Great flick -- my favorite scene is when they are playing poker for coupons!

  • 5 Websites for Swapping Your Clothes and Refreshing Your Wardrobe   14 years 42 weeks ago

Nice! I can't believe this article has been posted for 2 years and I've never heard of these sites. I do love the idea of swapping clothes online, all that extra reach really opens up a lot more possibilities. I've found it's the same with other sites that offer used clothing (not necessarily swap sites), in that you have access to a wider selection just by virtue that companies like Goodwill can now sell their clothes to anyone in the country who can access their website, which is shopgoodwill.com if you're interested in checking it out. I also like http://www.remedyoutfitters.com/ and have had pretty good results using Ebay and Bonanzle.

I pretty much never ever pay more than 1/3rd the retail cost for clothes these days :)

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

We used to pay for a membership to an aquatic center when my teen daughter swam competitively. I find, though, that it's much easier and faster for me to exercise at home - just don't like doing it around others. At home works for me!

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

I used to pay for the Y, but my husband and I rarely went. The times that were best for me to go (right after work) were of course their busiest time, so it was hard to get to the machines. I quit when I realized we were wasting our money. I have yet to find the best way for me to get enough exercise, but walking with my husband after work (even in 106 heat) is by far the best stress relief I can get!

Yes, at the YMCA. Have had a membership for over 13 years. Not using it as much as I should lately.

  • 5 Office Habits to Keep When Working From Home   14 years 42 weeks ago

This is a great post that anyone working from home can use! If you own a small business, you NEED to recognise that you may run the place, but you still need to practice good workplace habits. My favourite tip is having as you call "respectable boundaries." You can't run a business right if you can't separate it from the rest of your life. Even if you love everything about your job there needs to be a subtle change between work and "real life."

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

I haven't had a gym membership for 2 years now. I run and do workout videos at home. This has saved me $288.00 each year. Yea!

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

Like Rachel, I get a gym membership at my college. I use the gym independently probably once a week, but I go to yoga classes twice a week or play in the squash class twice a week. That being said, over the summer I work out outside or to yoga DVDs or workout DVDs! They kick my ass!

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

Yes, because the weather where I live is often rainy

Although I think exercise is very important, I don't pay for a gym membership. I can't afford it! But luckily there are schools and parks nearby that I can play basketball, walk or run at; my husband plays baseball with his friends. There are also so many routines you can find in women's magazines, for example, that you could do at home.

I have a gym membership. I have such nasty allergies that it's not practical to exercise outside. I end up making myself sick! So, in the long run I save myself money.

  • The game of Haggling: How to Get a Great Deal on a Used Car   14 years 42 weeks ago

Gotta agree. The $1000 should have been fought for. I have bought a couple cars new and 3 used. The warranty has been useful to me for both my Ford f250 and Ford Explorer. However, with all my cars the guy you always see after the salesman tried to sell me all the extras including an extended warranty. I always act like I dont want it and they always slash it by 50 to 60%. Hence the $3000 would have been at least $1500 anyway.

I've never had a gym membership. I know it would be a huge waste of money for me since I don't really "officially" work out, and walking my Jack Russell Terrier gives me plenty of exercise already!

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

I do not pay for a gym membership. I watch fitness shows on cable while eating potato chips.

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

I have had a couple of gym memberships over the years, but have decided they're not for me. If I have to get in the car and drive somewhere to exercise, I just won't do it. I'd rather put on my walking shoes and head out the door when spurred to move.

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

I had a paid gym membership about 20 years ago, but I hardly used it. I prefer punch cards now if I can get them (like at the pool). I'd rather buy 20 entrance punches at a time for an overall savings, knowing that I've paid per visit not per month.

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For A Gym Membership?   14 years 42 weeks ago

Our family paid for a YMCA membership for almost two years. Some months, we'd really get our money's worth...most most months were worthless when it came to getting in shape.

Just a week ago, I made the call to cancel. We just can't afford to keep paying for something we're not using!

  • Big Changes to eBay That Will Make You Really Happy   14 years 42 weeks ago

Whoever publish that article must be a hired actor by ebay. Ebay is a lousy company when it comes to customer service and they discriminate against handicap and violate every laws of the anti-trust act. the only reason they are not shut down is because they buy their way in congress, which makes the US government no less corrupt than any other corrupt government in the world. I can guarantee you that if an honest anonymous survey is conducted among sellers on ebay, likely 95 percent or more will tell you how much they hate the system. It gets more and more paranoid every six months.
