  • Where to Find Free or Cheap Yoga Classes   15 years 2 weeks ago

If you already have a gym membership, then you can also get yoga classes for free. Make sure you check out what classes your gym offers or switch to a different fitness center which has more classes.

If you are planning to do yoga only, then it is a good idea to see if you know any experienced yoga friend and see if she knows someone who can give you a discount. Sometimes she may also offer to teach you yoga for free!

I cut the cable a few months back and have absolutely no regrets. I wrote all about it at http://www.narrowbridge.net/2011/01/no-more-cable/. I am saving $804 per year and use Netflix and Hulu for all of the shows I want to watch.

Just last night I watched episode one of MacGyver. Awesome show that I can't get from Comcast.

Nope. I pay for internet, and when they 'unlocked' my (lowest-tier) internet, I got about 50 expanded basic channel 'for free.' I supplement with my local library's awesome movie collection.

    I'm a cheap-ass.

We do not pay for cable nor do we watch cable TV at all, unless we are traveling and staying in a hotel that has free cable! We have been married nearly 18 years and have NEVER had cable. I would rather spend the money to travel!

We decided when we moved into our new apartment to ditch the cable and subscribe to Netflix w/ 1 DVD subscription. We have a Wii and internet service and don't want to spend anymore money for cable. We were paying over 100.00 month w/our roomate whi insisted on having HD subscription (my TV is old so did us no good but he hand a fancy shmancy one). Our internet is still expensive (65.00) but couldn't live without it. Getting out of the couch potato mode has been an experience. I actually read more again=)

No, Netflix works just fine for us.

I used to use WOW as well. Agreed... they are the best! Great prices and the customer support is the best I've ever seen.

No, no cable. Only TV via computer. This works for me because I watch less TV and don't have my brain fried by being inundated by commercials. When I watch TV online, I have a couple of browser tabs open and just switch to something else while the commercials play if needed. Some sites have no commercials, some have a few, but none are as bad as regular TV. Almost everything is available online. Used to have Netflix, but don't even need that anymore since our library has a great collection of DVDs.

Today is actually my last official day of paying for cable. The digital receiver is in my car and ready to be turned into Comcast. It just makes more sense not to spend the money as I don't normally have time to watch TV and when I do, I find it's usually reruns. With the help of network website (ABC.com), Netflix, and Hulu I should be able to catch all my shows, when I have the time, for 1/10 of the price.

Yes, I pay for cable as part of a package and I do like having it. I don't have many expensive habits (don't drink, don't smoke) so this is my drug of choice. I love having so many choices.

While moving recently to a small studio apartment, I decided it was time to reduce all the extra "stuff" in my life. One thing to get nixed was my Premium Digital Cable package. I realized that I just don't have the time to fully enjoy the 200+ channels I was paying for. So I got a digital converter box that lets me watch a handful of local channels. My tv also has wireless internet, so I can stream Youtube, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Netflix videos to my tv. I've found that not only do I not miss the cable package, but I am discovering new series and movies that I never would have gotten to enjoy (and saving a boatload of cash).

Ive been cable free since Sep 2010.
I have a HTPC with a HD other the air tv tuner so If I miss a show it records it for me. Most content that I was watching I can get through Netflix, Over the Air, or off Hulu so I'm not missing out on anything. The biggest thing I miss is MLB since the local Fox Sports station owns all rights to play the games.. I cant even watch it on MLB.TV!!! I can't see myself paying over $50 a month for Time Warners most basic service that gets me MLB, or almost $80 a Month so I can watch it in HD! Its no wonder why cable subscribers are dropping like flys!

$12 cable = 20 channels (most of them duplicates). We shouldn't even pay that as we don't watch much tv and have no must-watch shows. We also have netflix (movie junkies). If we're not watching the local news and the tv is on, it's tuned into netflix via the wii.

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For Cable TV?   15 years 2 weeks ago

We still pay for cable, but it's becoming less and less important in our life.

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For Cable TV?   15 years 2 weeks ago

No, when it got to $50 for expanded basic I bought a rooftop antenna for $5 at a garage sale and the neighbor put it up. Now that many stations in our area have additional digital channels, I don't miss it (except for Jon Stewart & HGTV... 8) )

Yes, we have a really good company (WOW) that is rated the best by Consumer Reports. They are the most affordable company we've found and we've been delighted with their service!

  • Why You Should Buy a Desktop Computer   15 years 2 weeks ago

My first PC was a long while back, a RadioShack Color Computer which had a plastic button on the top '4K' and I upgraded to 32K. I'm not sure what that meant Ram? Rom?

It was a great little machine with color graphics and I used my tape recorder for storage. I had a neat game Ghost Gobbler which was an excellent PacMan look alike.
The bottom of my printer's lower case characters were all even (ie the lower case letters j p q were stuck up higher). There was no WWW but perhaps the internet was being established. It all sounds a bit weird now.

Anyway I will purchase my 5th PC this summer as this is 8 years old and it will be an all-in-one desktop.

We actually get most of our TV from an over the air antenna. It saves us a lot of cash over the course of a year. Our cable bill ballooned a couple of years ago with additions and add-ons, and we decided just to drop it completely. We still have Tivo, so we can watch stuff at-will, but as far as the selection of channels, it has made a big difference in the amount of TV that we watch.

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For Cable TV?   15 years 2 weeks ago

nope! we have rabbit ears to let us watch the big 3 broadcast networks, but most of our entertainment comes from Netflix, Hulu, or (shh!) uTorrent.

  • Ask The Readers: Do You Pay For Cable TV?   15 years 2 weeks ago

Yes, we have Dish Network at our house. My family is obsessed with tv. Luckily, we have dvr so we don't watch too many annoying commercials.
