  • 17 Things Car Salesmen Don't Want You to Know   11 years 18 weeks ago

It's funny how a good majority of these comments come from "car salesman" themselves. The simple fact that negotiating is even necessary to buy a car should let you know that must tread carefully. I don't negotiate for a loaf of bread or a can of soup. But buying a new car is completely different...and why? People are inherently selfish and any car salesman that calls himself altruistic is a lying sack of ****. In all fairness, you are trying to make a living. I get that and most people do. The problem isn't your trade, but the shady practices that surround it. Many of you say the sales tactics listed on this site are antiquated. Well I beg to differ because "every time" I purchase a car, I go through the same shenanigans but from different dealerships and sales personnel. It's almost 2015 and nothing has changed. Your job is to separate a "mark" from his money. Your concern isn't a happy customer, but putting food on your table. If you have a pleased customer, then that's just icing on the cake, but it's not your prerogative, nor should it be. I don't do my job to please my boss or my customers. I do my job for the same reason you do yours.. a paycheck. The difference between my job and a salesman is that I'm not lying to people in an effort to line my pockets. This isn't to say that other jobs are above your own. Everyone cuts corners from time to time, milks the clock, etc. The difference is that I’m willing to admit this fact. Cut the **** and be honest. More often than not, you'll probably never see the customer again. Myself and almost everyone I know has never seen the salesperson again unless they randomly saw them in the streets or were a repeat customer. People don't buy cars to forge relationships with salesman. I think the tips listed here can save uninformed car buyers some real stress if they heed the advice. As for the salesman, we appreciate your in depth knowledge of the vehicles and your assisting us in finding the right vehicle, but stop acting like you care about the customer because we both know that you don’t.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Find Re-gifting Socially Acceptable?   11 years 18 weeks ago

I think it's absolutely fine if the intent is to give it to someone who would actually use and appreciate the item. I'm also lucky to live in a community filled with secondhand stores selling clothing and housewares, so people around here aren't touchy about that sort of thing!

I think its fine. I do it a lot!

  • 6 Awesome Reasons to Shop at Aldi   11 years 18 weeks ago

I have to disagree with the comments listed above. I checked labels at home and found all the reported added ingredients above were not in my cans and jars of Aldi peanut butter (both the regular and natural versions), or the canned beans (both Dakota and Simply Organic). Yes, there is corn syrup in the jelly, but it is also found in both brand name and store brand versions in other stores as well. I am writing this reply at the end of 2014, so this may be an old comment.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Find Re-gifting Socially Acceptable?   11 years 18 weeks ago

Totally, as long as the person who gave you the gift does not have any connections to the recipient. Regifting is a lot better than hoarding things you will never use!

  • Capital One 360: A Competitive Banking Option   11 years 18 weeks ago

Problems with the Capital One 360 Checking:

Poor Customer Service - I mean poor, takes 3+ days to respond to an email - NOT friendly - I was actually sent an email that they would no longer be responding to my inquiries

Like another reviewer stated, pending transactions will disappear and then reappear, so it is not always accurate when you check your checking balance.

Deposits take forever to be deposited. I had a check take up to 7 days to be available in my account. Ridiculous.

Depositing cash is a huge hassle - although they do allow you to do that now

They all of a sudden cancelled my husband's check card due to a security breach and did not notify him at all. It was the strangest thing. We were out of town and his check card was getting declined. Luckily, I was with him. If not, he would have been stranded out of town with no access to any money. Thanks Capital One 360!

Has really gone down hill since Capital One 360 bought ING Direct. I'm very sad that it is no longer ING. Capital One is a horrible company and I will be closing all of my accounts with them soon.

    I suggest looking elsewhere.

Absolutely, if it is in good shape and I think the person would like it.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Find Re-gifting Socially Acceptable?   11 years 18 weeks ago

Re-gifting is fine, as long as you're not giving it to someone in the same social group as the person who gave it to you. We recently received an electric griddle but already had something similar, so we gave it to someone for Christmas and it totally made her day. Just make sure no one knows it's re-gifted, since both parties may be offended.

  • 18 Things People With Good Social Skills Never Do   11 years 18 weeks ago

How should a person respond to someone who "just stopped by for a moment" and caught you in the middle of eating a snack and they asked for some?

This is not the first time this has happened and I just think the person is rude. I would never go to someone's house for a momentary stop and ask for their food.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Find Re-gifting Socially Acceptable?   11 years 18 weeks ago

I think it's fine but you do need to be careful you don't regift back to the same person and that it's still in great condition.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Find Re-gifting Socially Acceptable?   11 years 18 weeks ago

I would rather give/share with someone who would appreciate it, rather than have it sit and collect dust.

  • Real Estate Agents: Do We Really Need Them?   11 years 18 weeks ago

With the internet there's really no need for agents and the MLS anymore. Just think about Craigslist and the social media. Not only do you eliminate the real estate commission (which means the seller is more likely to be flexible on the price) but you also take the agent out of the picture. Unfortunately, a lot of agents are part-timers or newbies and not particularly good at what they do.

The same is true when you sell your home. You should try to sell it on your own an save the commission. With the right price and the right internet marketing strategy, you should be able to sell without an agent, saving you thousands of dollars. That means you'll walk away with more cash to put down on your next home.

  • 15 Things You Should Buy at Costco   11 years 18 weeks ago

I buy lot of my clothes at Costco. Also bought boots that look just like UGGS but way cheaper and I would say even better looking. I bought a winter coat Calvin Klein for $50. Very light and warm. I get lot of compliments on it. The food I buy is Organic frozen berries, corn and mango. The goat cheese is a great bargain it comes in 2 pack.
Olive oil for frying is another great bargain. Nescafe coffee is also well priced but not everything is. So if you know your prices you can find bargains. I buy also the cherries in season and the Grapefruits are delicious. One think I don't buy is the beef for some reason don't like it and neither does my son. I buy the wild fresh salmon and frozen salmon burgers. Would not waste my money on the farmed sea food as its not good for you.

  • Five Reasons Why I Love Public Transportation   11 years 18 weeks ago

I am worried about going on public transport as have never done it before! This makes it seem scary and as my parents never took me on public transport when I was a child I am now scared of what may happen when I am on it!

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Find Re-gifting Socially Acceptable?   11 years 18 weeks ago

Of Course! Regifting is restoring, renewing, reinventing, recycling, remembering, rewrapping and sensible in the extreme. When I am given a lovely set of placemats, and i don't entertain, (perhaps the gifter is hinting?), it is only moral to regift to that friend whose art is culinary winders and beautiful table settings. As for the alligator with a top hat? ahhhhh, perfect for Uncle Bob. In closing, (and it is difficult to bear the horror of retailers) we have a regifting drawer and shelf in our home. Happy New Year. Lindy and the nefarious regifting gang

  • The 10 Most Versatile Foods in Your Pantry   11 years 18 weeks ago

The list works for me. I'd add cornmeal, which helps complete the protein of beans. Raisins are great to have on hand: they can go in oatmeal, salads, cookies and quick breads or muffins, rice pudding, peanut butter sandwiches. I also keep the pantry stocked with cans of evaporated milk, chicken stock, tomatoes.

  • The 10 Most Versatile Foods in Your Pantry   11 years 18 weeks ago

Glass jars of organic passata (pureed tomatoes). I try to always have six on hand at any one time. I use it for soups, chili, tomato sauce, etc.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Find Re-gifting Socially Acceptable?   11 years 18 weeks ago

I think it is fine as long as both the receiver and the person that gave you it did not know. Also, if it tailors to the receiver. Better to regift than have something you don't use go to waste.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Find Re-gifting Socially Acceptable?   11 years 18 weeks ago

I think re-gifting is fine! Always be mindful of the giver's feelings though. They should never find out. It's better than wasting.

  • The 10 Most Versatile Foods in Your Pantry   11 years 18 weeks ago

The list works for me. Even the potatoes, which are nutritious, though I agree that yams and sweet potatoes are even more so and should be utilized more. However, I would add cornmeal. As for the flour, I still use unbleached white and whole wheat flours, though I do know people who swear by their gluten-free diets. Humans have long eaten flour without becoming obese or developing diabetes. I suspect that sedentary habits; fast food; prepared foods with added sugar; and portion creep are more responsible.
