Would love to have a healthy retirement fund as well as enough money for a down payment on a house. Am debt free now so all of my money now goes straight to savings & investments!
I always worry about number two. It seems so easy. I saw an inside edition episode where they put skimmers in the credit card machines at the gas stations. Just too easy.
I know Sallie Mae has a terrible, awful reputation, but the best customer service I've ever received was from a few of their workers. I had no job when I had to start paying back my private student loans, but luckily they have forbearance option for a few months. Problem is, you have to call and be embarrassed by being broke. The third time I had to do this, I was really upset by my situation. I got a woman named Peggy who began asking me many questions, a lot more than I was asked before, and I broke down and tried to joke about my situation through tears. She began talking to me and reassuring me and giving me ideas about where to look for work and such. She told me about how she was in a similar situation and told me everything turned out okay for her. I was so grateful for that encouragement. A few weeks later I found a full-time job, not one I want by a far-shot, but one that will allow me to pay the bills. So thanks, Peggy, wherever you are.
In five years, I'd like to have my full emergency fund funded ($30,000), to be fully funding my Roth 403(b) annually and living on my own (preferably owning my own home!).
In 5 years I would like to generally worry less about money. I would like to have a proper emergency account built up and. Additionally I would like to learn how to properly run household finances as a couple so I do not have that struggle in a future relationship.
I have thought about having more money for all of those scenarios. Number 6, I have spent a great deal thinking about. When there were all of those tornadoes in the mid west two years ago, I called my home owner's insurance policy and increased my amount.
I much enjoyed this kind of article - it made me reflect to how I spend my own money.
I digress on throwing money for solving a medical problem - as a physician myself I have witnessed firsthand the difference money AND education can do regarding the same disease with the same correctly prescribed treatment. Many excellent drugs and vaccines and devices we use today were created by people throwing money - lots of it- to solve a certain problem. Of course, I've seen the opposite too: rich patients throwing money for tests they don't really need when their fortunes are causing an imbalance in their lifestyle, e.g. affording tobacco or steaks every day.
Very inspiring article! Here are my top inspiring places:
1. the bathtub - I can't fully relax while showering, I need to be immersed in water to let my mind free, this is the reason for which the bathtub was the main thing I asked before renting
2. music - especially "Man in the mirror" and "Heal the world" by Michael Jackson (the songs that shaped my life)
3. the swimming pool where I can actively meditate by focusing on my movements and breathing forcing my brain to live in the present moment and stop wasteful inner chatter
I respectfully disagree with a few of these assessments, more specficially 16-18 because if you simply answer "frankly I got along with everyone" it can mean that either you're lying, which they have no room for a person with no integrity, you have no backbone, which they need people willing to stand up for what they believe in, or that you are too timid and have little extra to contribute other than the baseline standard.
Today's companies are looking not for people who are easy to work with and will give you a baseline effort, they're looking for people who will go beyond what's asked of them to accomplish a job. That means that sometimes there's going to be friction.
My personal recommendation for answering these sorts of questions are to maintain tact, still stay relatively 'timid' on the disagreement or how they were hard to work with, but then turn it into a positive by showing how you overcame that adversity and grew as a person and as a team to accomplish a goal. There's no better story than being able to overcome not just external obstacles, but internal barriers as well to become a more well-rounded person. It also shows that you are willing to admit you have flaws, but that you are aware of them and willing to make an effort to improve.
These all happen to be excellent staples too. It's easy to make many different dishes with potatoes and eggs with together or separately. I lived and Spain and eggs and potatoes together is a very tasty meal called a tortilla. It looks a bit like a keish. I feel like a million bucks eating something I learned to make in Europe that doesn't cost a lot of money. Double bonus!
In 5 years I hope to financially be independent from my parents.I recently finished college so my main goals for the next 2 to 3 years is to finish paying off my student loans. I hope to start saving for my retirement fund. I also hope to start saving for more elaborate travels. I hope to start investing more in the next 5 years.
Can't agree more with this wonderful and well thought blog post. I simply loved it. Yes, our mind can change everything. They say, it's all in the attitude. Surrounding do adversely affect us. The best point that touched my heart is the visualizing one. Yes, we have to visualize to achieve.
I think a true friend doesn't just accept people for who they are but wants them to become better. If they can't accept the reason you give them I'm not sure they are truly looking out for your best interest. "Sorry can't play, working on becoming a millionaire, want to join me?"
In 5 years, I would love to be debt free other than our home and car. I would love to be in a better place moneywise, so that we do not run short each month and have to skimp to find meals. Although...it does make me manage our money very well to make it!
Thank you for sharing your Sallie Mae story with us, Anon. Glad to hear that you're back on your feet.

I would like to purchase a new car minus the loan as well as do home improvements such as a newly remodeled kitchen/dining room.
I always enter everyday with the question, "how can I help somebody today?" This list just helps that quest ... saved it to my Evernote!

The Harp Program is extended again .. december 2015!
I'm planning on using "I'm saving up to buy a house." It's both true and something my peers will respect enough to give me pressure slack.

Tell me about it! I'm already making my 2-month-old babies watch Shark Tank.
I want to be able to put more money towards more mortgage each month.
