I like to dust before I clean anything else; that way I don't feel as though when I'm dusting, I'm getting the floors or counters dirty all over again!
I haven't been a fan of soda and never will. I rarely drink soda anymore. Sparkling water is pretty good like what Amy said. I would recommend water and if its one of those hot days, make your own lemonade. Homemade. You will know what you put it in so it will be healthy.
Help me figure out what kind of scam attempt this was...I had a chair for sale, guy emails that he wants to buy chair and to call him (I thought the email was a little abrupt, but not everyone has the same style). I called the number, but it was a wrong # (this may have been an honest accident because it turns out two numbers were transposed when he actually called me). I emailed him back that he had given me a wrong # and to call or text (my cell #). He called later and sounded a little weird (nervous, high?). My red flags were at half staff, but I was anxious to sell the chair and my husband was home with me. He asked if he could come right then, and I said yes if he was on his way, and so he asked me to text him my address which I did. (This is how I normally operate with CL sales; I give out my address only when they say they are on their way.) So then he called back from a different # (I recognized his voice) and said "OK, so I checked her out and she is 53 and a Catholic..." (which is not a description of me by the way), and I cut him off with "Whoa, you have the wrong #" and he said "oh, who is this?" and I said "whoever it is, it's not who you want to be talking to" so he hung up and then texted me a few minutes later "I'm sorry but the Furniture does not fit mine" I ignored him from that point. Is this an attempt at identity theft? All is he basically has is information that is publicly available (name, address) and my cell and email. What exactly can he do with this? My husband is freaked out that he was setting up a burglary, but I think it's more along the identity theft lines.
Definitely the whole "clean-as-you-go" mentality! If you take care of things as you use them, there is not a grand clean-up at the end; it's already done! :)
Laundry tip for stains: Using equal parts Cascade and Clorox II (1/4C or so) mixed in the hottest water out of the tap, fill the sink and soak the stained clothing overnight. Then wash in hot water. Does an amazing job--especially on food stains.
Fave cleaning tip? Make someone else do it! LOL Seriously, though, it's just me and my cat at my house, so I just pick up after myself and deep clean every 2 weeks. Putting on some good music helps me get it done faster, so I guess that's my tip!
3 syllables: VINEGAR! Also, cleaning mirrors with newspaper really does get rid of streaks. And that vacuuming your car makes you feel like a new person.
I only use vinegar, baking soda, and lemon to make my home clean while being "green". It also helps to listen to upbeat music to make it more fun :) *cue in..."Happy" by Pharrel Williams ;)
Thanks for sharing such great ideas and common sense info.
That number one about clearing the cache/cookies on your computer was new to me. Reminded me that we all should be doing that frequently anyway. It's a good way to keep your computer clean from viruses, etc.
My favorite tip is to make your own cleaning products. White vinegar can clean almost anything. I wash my floors, counters, appliances, bathroom etc with vinegar and water. Need scrubbing power..add baking soda.
My favorite thing is to tidy up as I go. I wipe down the shower walls right after a shower, wash the baking and cooking utensils and bowls as I'm finished with them, and pick up things and put them away when I see them. It keeps the house more pleasant between deeper cleanings.
I use tea as a medicine for my asthma and migraines, mostly for my asthma. IF I have used caffeine, to which I am very sensitive, and it is near the end of the day I use cardamom and make a tea of the spice. Cardamom detoxifies you of caffeine and it works quickly if you have made the tea strong enough. You can get cardamom tea from a health food store, or get Spice Islands ground cardamom and use that. You can make the tea loose, just don't drink the dregs. Better would be to purchase cloth tea bags and put the cardamom in the bag.
Sometimes you really need the caffeine, but when you don't it's nice to have something to rescue you from all the stimulation.
Hey Carolyn,
Glad you liked my tip!
And your right: cleaning up your cache is good for a lot more things than just booking flights and hotels.

Barkeeper's friend on glass shower doors.
My favorite cleaning tip is to clean things as you go rather than waiting for an entire messy home!
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers for things that you can't get off otherwise... marks on the cabinets, floors, shoes... works for so many things!

Thank you! Your Amazon tip just converted my useless gift card into a useful one. Darn gift card companies trying to snag your hard earned dollars. ;)

Always squeegee the shower after using it. We have hard water and this makes a huge difference, no more build up to scrub off.

I love using vinegar as a substitute over chemicals because it cleans and smells better than using a spray

I wipe around the bathroom sink with a wad of toilet paper to remove hair and dust/dirt in between regular cleanings.
Get someone else to do it for you! ;)

I use a sheet of Bounce with water to remove soap scum from the bathtub and shower. It works great!
I put in my earbuds/headset and talk to my mom while cleaning so I can make the most of the time.
I love to put a cotton ball doused with a few drops of essential oil into my vacuum canister. It makes the house smell great.
