As the economy has recovered a bit, I think people have started to devalue the emergency fund and that's unfortunate.
That is actually my #1 goal for 2014 as well is to bolster that fund. I would add to that: If you've got six months, then shoot for nine months ESPECIALLY if you're in a single-earner household.
I think the only reason I'm alive is because I eat peanut butter and avocados. Seriously, they probably make up half my diet, and powered me through the marathon this year.
Right now I'd like to focus on building back up my savings account after buying a house. It'll probably take at least six months to be where I want to be.
I agree. If after spending the money on materials, and the time on producing the items, you are lucky to cover costs of selling items you craft. Unfortunately, people are going to instead buy the mass produced items produced out of country for per piece cost of 35 cents including labor, marked up to 5 dollars, which is what they buy it at, which underbids you by 5 dollars. I'm not sure that this article was researched properly before written. Who was the fact checker?
Great Reply. The article was obviously written by a "low fat" "high carber" and believes all calories are the same. In the high fat world (which heals illness and helps you loose weight) Macadamia nuts are the number one choice because they are high fat and lowest in Carb. Do your research people: A calories is NOT a calorie, (quality) fats make you thin and Carbs raise your blood sugar and make you fat!
Sadly for some, the whole business model has changed. It's no longer about an easy check-in or bit of photo taking when you're out someplace where you were going to be anyway. It's become a temp agency for mostly menial jobs like shelf stocking and price labeling--sometimes you have to know how to operate tow motors and other warehouse equipment. You can probably make more money this way if you're diligent, but you do have to be *approved* for gigs, just like a traditional temp agency. You don't find out in a timely manner if you are approved for a gig, so you do it basically at their pleasure. You may have to be ready at a moment's notice to drop whatever you're doing and hie yourself to the gig--you basically have to organize your life around Gigwalk, rather than it fitting seamlessly into yours.
In urban areas gigs often seem to be rather out of the way. In L.A. they are usually far from the Metro; in NYC they usually seem to be in out in the boroughs.
I turned my old t shirts into a bathmat! I cut 1"x4" strips from old t shirts using a self healing mat, rotary cutters and an old bath towel. I marked the lines on the bath towel 1 centimeter apart with a water dissolving marker and sewed my lines with the t shirt strips. The great thing about this bathmat is that when you wash it the ends of the t shirts curl up. It is very cozy and comfy underfoot.
I just recived the same reply. My gut was tellng me something was wrong. I was offered 30.00 extra for taking the craigslist post down asap. Wanted my name...address..no po box...cell phome#. Was to be paid via curior and movers will pick up the item as soon as the cashiers check was cashed. Go with your gut.
6 and 7 are definitely on my To Do List this year. I pretty much know my bad spending habits, trying to change them is where I have trouble. I like to eat out and grab food on the go, I also like to buy expensive soap from store like LUSH and The Body Shop. I try to get a good deal on my purchases because it makes me feel less guilty about spending the money but I should stop making those purchases all together.
I like to order my credit report once a year to see where I stand and make sure there is no fraud on any of my accounts.
As for #3, a better price per pound for TOO MANY VEGETABLES is not necessarily a good deal. I split a CSA share with four friends for a summer and our fridge overflowed with rotting kale and beets because we could not keep up with it. And we didn't even save money compared to paying non-bulk prices for the vegetables we actually ate. Make sure you have a plan to deal with surplus if you try this.
I think there is a difference wether you "lost" your wallet like by misplacing in in your house or office, where you probably can find it if you look for it. In your sitaution where you lost it in a public place like a party is more risky, because anybody could walk off with it. So i would agree with you in your case, but spending five minutes to llok for it, could save you the hassle of rebuilding your whole wallet if you by accident placed it in your laundry basket
I don't know of any sites that allow consumers to post the names of Obamacare scammers, but you can report suspected scammers to the FTC (1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) and ftc.gov/complaint.
I agree with this post Americans are so brainwashed now about gyms since we are a population that is mostly overweight, the alternative to make money in this marketing world is to sell the idea to lose weight. Like you said- it is understandable for people to go when they are training for an event or to lift weights but running outside is much better for the body than running on a treadmill. If anyone has comcast there are many different workouts you can utilize on there. I've been to several gyms in the past and found it a waste of time money and energy!
i buy the urinary tract infection test kits. my cat is prone to UTIs and the vet can never get a sample so i use them to check at home. it's not a perfect test but she said it's good enough to let us know when he needs a round of antibiotics. but she did say she wouldn't trust them if she didn't know he already has a tendency to infections
Thanks for the heads up, guest! We've corrected the text.
Here's what the American Heart Association has to say about good and bad cholesterol, for those of us who need a reminder.

Paying off as much as possible of the big debts and increasing retirement savings.
Short term I just like to keep enough in an emergency fund that is at least 3 mortgage payments + bills in case something were to go wrong.
to spend less on groceries through couponing.

Hdl is the good cholesterol, not LDL

My short term goal is to get all my 2013 finances organized, file them and do the initial prep work for taxes.

Wire hanger worked like a charm! Thanks
Great post! #1 in particular. I can't tell you how important it is to have everyone on board with what you're doing. Makes life just a little easier.

This year I want to get 3 months worth of expenses into our emergency fund.
