I want to pay off our Lowe's extended financing balances before we owe interest. We're past the midway point of a major home construction project so avoiding interest will save us big money.
Our dollar store carries a lot of 2-3 liter soda bottles, so they can be a good deal, depending on the store you go to. Even name brands such as Coke and Pepsi.
Their toys are sometimes good too. We sometimes find toys at our dollar store that are the same as sold elsewhere. Hot Wheels cars are one example, although you can usually get them for the same price elsewhere. There are lots of toys there I wouldn't buy either, so I know where you're coming from on that one. We've sometimes lucked into toys that sell for about $10 in other stores.
I buy plastic sandwich bags and aluminum foil as well as my trash bags and I've been satisfied with them. The bags don't tear and I don't count how many sandwich bags there are because it takes a long time for two people to go through them.
I bought some gluten free rice flower at Sprouts and it already has xanthan gum premixed into it. Is this sufficient for all recipes or do I still need to follow the directions when xanthan gum is required?
Places like Office Depot and Office Max have a drop box in their stores where you can recycle ink cartridges. I think one of these may give you credit toward the purchase of new cartridges (check their web sites). Keeps them out of the landfill, anyway, even if you don't get any credit or make any money off of them.
I thought it was good advice until my husband and I started to attempt to "talk it out" before falling asleep. With all good intentions, you aren't thinkng rationally when it's getting late, you have to wake up early the baby is cying, and both of you are crying. Sometimes the best thing to do is just fall asleep instead of talking it out. I find that all our arguments get resolved much better on a clear head, a good nights sleep, and a full stomach.
I don't really want to advocate drug use here in a public forum, but caffeine has always done wonders for my memory and mental performance... the more the better!
These are all great advises. We have to stand back and look at what the problem is. I for one, consider myself working hard. I try to exercise but it takes too much of my time and currently I cannot spare it. What I do is give a five minutes break and do 20 push-ups in my office or use the excuse to get myself a coffee so that I can stretch my legs.
Another thing that works for me is to allow myself dream a bit when I get really tired. I dream the places I will go for my holiday and what type of a house I will buy with the money. A few minutes of dreaming on my chair helps me a lot.
If "short-term" means one year, then my goals are to keep an extra $2000 in my checking account every month and save at least 2 months of monthly expenses in my savings account.
Definately agree with the idea of investing in dividend stocks. There are many companies that have been paying dividends and increasing those dividends annually at a pace beating inflation for the past 25+ years. These are great companies to use to build your wealth.
Hard to believe that Ayn Rand gets things so wrong and yet is so widely quoted. She says that money "will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver." Yet for many people, money does drive their lives. They're like alcoholics whose pursuit of the drug is all consuming. See Franklin's quote #52.
Also, Rand says, "Money is the barometer of a society's true virtue." It may be the barometer of a society's priorities, as Frick points out in #60, but a society's virtue is measured by its compassion.
My short term goal is to open a savings account and save up 6 months expenses. I am planning on getting a second job on the weekends this summer and just putting the money towards that.
One of the best things I have done is to setup automatic transfers. This can be on savings or other upcoming expenses. I make sure that it is set to transfer right after I get my pay so that I do not have to think about it. By the time I look in my account the money is already gone. It is almost like I never had it ... so I don't spend it.
Verizon has one of the worst customer service groups in the telecommunications industry. Not surprisingly they don't give you anything for free. That includes good service.
My short-term financial goal is to have my 4 kids school tuition covered before the next school year starts. We usually pay them on a monthly basis but we have set a goal of paying registrations and the full tuition amounts by June.
To go on vacation!!
I want a Mac!
Plus I want to start investing for passive income.
Pay down my g!

Is there a website where consumers can post the names of these bogus companies? ?
To be debt free by the time I'm 30 (in July), to build my net worth over $20k in 2014, and to save 6 months worth of wages in an emergency fund.

You are forgetting one - a traditional Japanese breakfast of rice and nado (a type of bean).... not the tastiest, but should at least be mentioned!

No cream cheese and peanut butter, or did I somehow miss that? That's been my favorite combo since I was a kid.

to increase my emergency fund by $10,000 this year
Pregnancy tests are actually WAY cheaper at our dollar tree store and they work!

Candles are a great buy at the dollar store too. saves a ton of money and some times they have a bag of 100 tea lights!
