Couldn't have said it better myself, turn your life upside down to save a few dollars on A/C? How about not blowing drying or straightening your hair since you work from home since those two appliances use massive amounts of electricity. Or your husband driving an economy car (or dirt bike) instead of a pickup to work? If you really want to save the environment and money you could use cloth diapers on your kids, too! You could probably run an A/C for 1000 years and have less of a foot print than the plastic diapers on a kid until their potty trained. Everyone sleeping in the living room?! Wow. My Sister has a house that was built in 1900 (farm style) and her and her husband have a H.E. A/C and there bill is always below $200 and we live in Kansas and they set there thermostat at like 75. Ugh even the thought of sitting (not moving) inside and sweating your arm's sticking to leather furniture! I sweat extremely easily (I'm within a healthy BMI btw) and have since I was a kid, can't stand it (okay outside but not inside). I once visited some friends and if it wouldn't have been an hours drive home and I had not been drinking I would have gone home verses staying with them, it was so incredibly HOT in there apartment. I remember sitting still and sweat rolling down my face, ugh! If you want to save money do it the other way, I set it at 63 in the winter! It just has to be warm enough to keep my hands from going numb so I can use the computer!
My children are grown and I still shop back to school sales...especially for spiral notebooks. They're often a loss leader priced below 25 cents so a gteat time to stock up.
I also buy glue sticks, pens, pencils, crayons and anything our grandchildren can use when visiting. And these items are great to donate to schools.
I saw Staples had the one-subject college-ruled spiral notebooks for a penny, but couldn't get there in time. Did buy a few at Target for 17 cents each!
We thought we were in serious trouble when we got back from traveling for 2.5 years. Turns out neither me or my wife had any issues, my wife even got a job with the same company she had left.
We only get what is absolutely needed for the start of the year. Usually, we have enough left over and around the house for pencils, crayons, backpacks, etc. Notebooks for classes are the one thing we do purchase new each year-- and the kids get to choose their own colors.
Another simple fix, just change out the art you have. Some pieces goes in the closet and other pieces come out to hang in the perfect spot. A new look with no expense.
I took a 13 month career break to travel and came home to get 5 job offers in 3 months. My travel hardly ever came up, at least not in a negative way. I emphasized the skills it helped me develop and talked about how ready I was to get back into a routine and work again. I ended up taking a position that paid about the same as the one inject and was at the same level.
The description of "five reps of five different lifts each time you workout" used by the author to explain the Stong Lifts 5x5 program isn't quite right. 5x5 actually refers to the number of sets and reps that shoud performed for each lift — 5 sets of 5 reps (this does not include warmup sets). Furthermore, while the Strong Lifts program is composed of five different lifts total, each workout consists of only 3 of the 5.
The first year we took my step-son school shopping, I had coupons for all of his favorite stores, and was able to find deals online for a backpack that would have normally been too expensive. Four years later, that backpack is STILL holding up just fine. This year, we didn't take advantage of the sales like usual, because we realized school started a whole WEEK earlier than we were expecting. Last-minute shopping! Ahh!!
It isn't too surprising that debt takes a toll on mental health, which can spill over into physical health. Anyone that has been in debt for any length of time can attest to the stress that goes along with worrying about making those monthly payments, particularly if you are in a precarious position with regards to your job. A good way to improve mental, physical, and fiscal fitness...get rid of debt!
Yes indeed. My kids are grown and out of the house but every year some organization is usually looking for donations and bargains abound if you watch the ads. I am happy to help since it doesn't cost a fortune.
Yes, although if you plan ahead you can find super deals on school and office supplies at thrift stores year round. Stock up when you find something and when back-to-school time comes you've got a head start!
Yes, I shop back to school sales--that's when I stock up on printer paper, composition books, pens, pencils, and art supplies. All in moderation, of course. Heh.
My parents instilled many of these tactics in me at a young age. I still change my own oil, even though with a coupon I could probably have it done for the same cost. I recently negotiated a great deal on a used Prius and couldn't have been more exited, my wife was confused why this made me so happy.

I registered!

If there's a good deal, I will.
Thanks for letting us know. The article's been updated.
Heck yes I shop back to school sales! A lot of the times you can get items for .01 or even free with coupons!
You are my savior. And to think I was about to buy cable again to watch football.

So no, travel didn't hurt my career at all. :)
Where do you see the Dell Inspirion for 799 with those specs? Am I missing a coupon? I see it on their site for 899.
That's fine but eventually you have to shave your beard round the edges, unless you want to look like you're the Missing Link.

Looks interesting, but it's a quite expensive fee...to obtain a discount!

We bought our laptop at a back to school sale. If you check the ad papers, the prices drop on computers as school nears.

Great post! Brought back some good memories.
Heh heh, my kid is picking up pennies now.
I buy my children's school supplies at the back-to-school sales, but for clothes, I always shop thrift.
Yes, I have toddlers, but we take advantage of the cheap markers and glue.
