Hi Selene, what you're describing is happening too often because while many retailers have swapped their payment terminals with ones that can process chip-and-PIN payments, very few retailers are actually able to process those payments yet. Very few retailers are already processing chip cards the way they should. From my experience, only Target and Walgreens are encouraging people with chip cards to use the chip-and-PIN process.
I'd also add to figure how much cash in hand you have. Then buy a ring for no more than that amount. It's a simpler strategy and avoids beginning a marriage where precedence is already set to borrow money to pay for what you want now. Carey @ wiserdollar.com
How obliviously hetero your viewpoint is. Gay people can get married in all 50 states now, yet it didn't occur to the author (or your editorial management) that engagement rings are now man to man and woman to woman. Clearly gay people are not in your target audience.
I'm 29 and actually work for a credit union. A few of my older co workers always try to get on me about using a check register. I tried it for a few days... I think it lasted a few hours though. As for coupons, my sister is a big couponer and I find more and more of my friends who are mothers are getting into it. Good read, felt like I could relate to a lot of it.
You know what, it's possible to have a strong long marriage without an engagement ring to seal the deal. The money one would spend on an engagement ring can go into furnishing a home, saving for a house, buying a car, or clearing debts for the best possible start to a life-long loving partnership. We don't have to buy into the De Beers advertising nonsense. But if you must--because all you're friends are doing it--these are some good suggestions, though going into deeper debt for a piece of jewelry is probably a bad idea.
I use coupons, mostly the ones that are emailed to me - like Micheal's does with their email newsletters. Also, Meijer has their mPerks system, which is a digital app that you can "clip" coupons and have them automatically applied when you check out. As far as a budgeting app, I use my credit union's money management app. It automatically categorizes most transactions from all my accounts I have, like Mint does. I have credit cards, but I pay them off each month. But I have some student loan debt like whoa.
After several years of giving myself "buzz-cuts" I decided to go for a quality set of clippers. I had been using one of those kits which included all of the plastic guards etc. which fell in the $30 price range at Target. There is NO comparison. The Oster Classic 76 is the "Cadillac" of clippers. From the moment you turn them on, you can tell by the smoothness and power of the motor that you have stepped up to top quality clippers. It is great for real close shaves or fades. I'm confident these will last for years since I'm using them at home and not in a shop. I would definitely buy this brand again !
Apple gadgets are great, but I'm not an early adopter of technology. I will likely buy one of the next generation Apple watches if I think it will help me improve my productivity, but would like to see a few iterations before I make the splurge!
Yeah, this just happened to me, too. I have been struggling with getting out of credit card debt. I have 3 debit cards that I use regularly, and I need another one? Unreal. I am so fed up with the mindset of financial slavery that our country is riddled with. It's hilarious that our schools leave out the most important lesson that our kids could possibly need, financial responsibility and debt avoidance. This could solve a ton of problems that we are facing now. Thanks for posting this story.
I'm not a technology person and I can't justify spending that kind of money on a want! I'm just staying focused on my long term goals and ignoring the things that could potentially derail my goals!
As far as resale goes, another tip would be to make sure you clean your exterior and interior regularly. It is amazing to see how much longer interior and exterior finishes last when properly cleaned. Acid, salt, and other minerals eat away at the finish and the resale value of a vehicle. Not to mention that the longer your car "looks" new, the longer you might be willing to maintain the rest of it.
It has become a common practise among the tourists to book one way campervan rental in Canada, as it helps saving the travelling expenditure and assures total comfort.

I appreciate the idea of frugal vacations. Vacations can be a big hit to the budget, so any money saving ideas are appreciated!
How about when the kids are going off to college? Or to help pay for a wedding for them, or a new home helping hand?
I luuuuuuuuuv coke

I did this in 2007 got mine quick. Mine is a 15 lb star Teal black and purple. A bit heavy but works as a backup.
Thanks your information. Will purchase one for my woodshop . it is too dirty on air now .
I'm only interested in the older Apple gadgets.
I think you covered the tip I was also going to share in #2. Ebates is another cashback site that works with Groupon. Every bit helps!

I'd love to have a new iPad.
I'm not really an Apple fan.
I live in Eastern Oh/Western PA area (Steubenville) and don't see anything with "Free" housing here even with all the fracking going on.
those are great ideas!
no not really interested in new apple gadgets
