Why check it? No matter what you do, they won't change anything on it. Tried to change an incorrect address on it for 15 years now. Credit Report Fail.
The most refreshing way to get into spring cleaning is by clearing out all of the unnecessary clutter. For me, this is mostly in the form of clothing, so I create three piles: one to give to Salvation Army, another to keep (if I still can't let go!), and another to try and sell at consignment stores. I keep all the bags (except the bag to keep) in the trunk of my car so I can stop by a consignment shop or Goodwill on my way home from work or on the weekends.
Whatever doesn't sell at a consignment shop I give to Goodwill.
WE HAD OUR TURBO TAX REFUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $6300 SENT TO THIS VISA NETSPEND CARD. WE GOT THE CARD IN THE MAIL FINE. ABOUT A WEEK LATER THE MONEY WAS DEPOSITED. I USED THE CARD TWICE THAT EVENING BUT THE NEXT DAY WHEN I TRIED TO USE IT, IT WAS DECLINED. YOU CAN IMAGINE MY HORROR WHEN I WAS TOLD MY ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED AND THEY HAD NO IDEA WHY OR HOW BUT THE MONEY WAS GONE. I LATER FOUND OR I SHOULD SAY THEY CONSOLED ME AFTER 16 PHONE CALLS W/PEOPLE I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THEY ARE SENDING THE MONEY BY CHECK TO BE RECIEVED IN UP TO 20 DAYS. HIS WILL BE UP APRIL7 SO I HAVE NOTHING TO DO BUT WAIT AND IF IT DOESN'T COME BY THE 7TH OF APRIL, WHAT DO I DO? THIS IS NOT A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY AND I AM SICK AND GROWING OLDER BY THE DAY. I DON'T FEEL IT'S FAIR TO TREAT PEOPLE LIKE THIS AND BY VISA NO LESS. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED AND I PRAY VISA READS THIS.
We usually try to do it during the weekend when the oldest two are home from college and we assign cleaning duties for everyone and I use old shirts, sponges and cleaning supplies purchased with coupons
Buying dresses and clothing for special occasions, especially prom can get out of control quickly. Dresses are way to expensive these days if you are shopping at specialty stores. I remember there were a few formal gown stores near my house growing up and everyone shopped there for dances because the store registered the dress so no one else would have the same one. These shops were expensive. If you shopped at a store less expensive, you ran the risk of at least three girls having the same dress. So what is better than that? All of the ideas you mentioned. My first home coming dress was bought from a vintage store on vacation visiting my family in Georgia. I cut a slit into it and added some beading to make it an entirely original dress, but I wouldn't have even needed to go that far. The dress was definitely unique on it's own.
Wow! What an impressive list! I've been really into trying different foods--especially with vegetables--so I will definitely have to try one (if not more since there are so many) of these recipes.
I have had a tumultuous relationship with cell phone providers. I LOVE my smart phone, but I'm working towards financial independence and early retirement, and therefore want to spend as little as possible. For the time being, I'm using Virgin Mobile--they have a $45 plan with 1200 mins, unlimited texting, and unlimited data.
Great article Kentin. I think many of those are things that people trying to be better savers contemplate. However, number 5 is a sneaky one and one that I think I am not always cognizant of (like your HDTV/cable example). Thanks for the reminders!
I love Sriracha and use it to help me eat my veggies.
Warning though all Sriracha is not created equal. Some add a lot of sugar and make it not a good choice. Roland is a brand that does this. For example the sriracha I'm using right now (Huy Fong Foods Brand) has 5 calories per tsp and 1 gram of sugar. Roland brand has 100 calories a tsp (300 a tablespoon!!!!) and 18 grams of sugar.
I just happened to glance and see the label on the roland brand I had purchased without reading the label. So moral of the story read the label. I included links to the two I was referring.
I have tried everything on the store shelf to clean my shower and nothing worked, then at a flea market I seen a demo with this bottle called Shock it clean so I bought one the next mornning I sprayed down my shower with it did a little scrubing and WOW It came clean right before my eyes, now looks like new, I then tried it on my carpet where my kids have spilled food and let me tell you again WOW. I will never buy anything else on the market except Shock it clean and thats the truth.
I'm not sure how universal this is. The frugal folk I know tend to be a tad less conventional. They might reuse old things in new ways. Experiment in the kitchen. Swap with each other. Refinish. Faux paint. Even do some curbside gleaning.
They also enjoy less expensive diversions. Outdoor free concerts, roasting the perfect marshmallow on a stick, bird watching on a warm spring day. It doesn't have to be a cruise to Europe or a Broadway play.
I usually do small tasks throughout the entire year so I don't have one massive spring cleaning to get through. When I do decide to clean, I either choose to do one room at a time sorting, reorganizing, and cleaning...or I choose one task to do and do it in every room...and music is almost always a part of the process ; )
The only strategy for me is to clean on a semi-consistent basis. I cannot just choose a day and clean all day. Generally, I am cleaning on a daily basis. As I go through the day, if I see something that needs to be taken care of I do it right away.
well put
vinegar and baking soda. clean those closets out and move all the spring stuff in, winter out!
I use old dryer sheets to dust with
Declutter before you spring clean, then is will be easier to get to everything to clean.

Hi Stacy!
Thanks for this information. I'm loyal to Huy Fong, so I had no idea about the sugary competitors.
Chili, Sugar, Salt, GArlic, Distilled Vinegar, potassium sorbate, sodium bisulfite and xanthan gum.
This is on my Huy Fong Foods brand that I leave at my desk at work..... see I LOVE this stuff.

What are the ingredients as listed on the label?

Wow, I can't believe I came across this post! I am an avid Sriracha eater and use it on almost everything I eat! I'm on Team Rooster :-)
