My kid just entered kindergarten and I cant believe all the "fundraisers" we get each week. I am almost at the point that I will offer to pay for them to stop sending them home.
Great article - and very true. I have learned so much by blogging and writing articles for others. You learn so many interesting facts about things you'd never think would interest you - and the facts come in handy!
The professor section took me by surprise - I never thought about teaching industry practices because I didn't think I was qualified (being as I don't have a PhD :-) ). Gonna have to reach out and give it a shot!
Food! My husband loves a good home cooked meal more than just about anything else. Well he likes technology better, but I never know exactly what to buy in that department, so I make him tasty meals instead.
Several years ago when both DH and I were making more money (and not spending it intelligently - sigh) we bought a HE washer adn dryer and a commercial freezer. Although it wasn't planned - those appliances have saved us quite a bit of money when things got tight. Begin able to launder our clothers frequently without destroying them at a laundromat, etc. since we can't afford to replace them. We've learned to stock the freezer with sale/coupon finds as well as pre-made meals so there's no need to eat out when we don't feel like cooking.
Dice or shred leftover chicken with celery or pickles (both are delicious), mix with mayonnaise or ranch dressing, and add a Kaiser roll, and you’ve got one delicious, easy lunch. Its one of the good ideas and I am really following it.
My husband is one that doesn't want more "stuff", so gift certificates to go out to eat are usually the best. That or a new baseball cap. Oh, or leaving with my daughter for the day - as a SAHD, he relishes the time alone. My dad is also difficult - he doesn't golf, drink beer or do any of what is considered guy activities. Books, something related to his faith, or some indulgence - like choc covered cherries are always good.
men are hard to shop for! other than making their lives easier (I bought a floor cleaner for my dad, like a Roomba type thing) or replacing what they currently have (my sister is going to replace my dad's broken backpack).
Great list, Mikey! Don't forget to take any hazardous waste items to the recycling center rather than just throwing them in the trash. Here in California that includes used batteries whether rechargeable or single-use, CFL bulbs, fluorescent bulbs, paint, insecticides, computer monitors, used oil and filters and anything with electronic components inside.
I tend to like gift cards as I can go out and choose what I like. It also means a lot to me when I can tell time has been put in to planning or getting it.

Honestly, depends on the man. There are few universal gifts that apply to all men. Some like sports, some like tools, some like computers, some like candles. However, a customized gift tends to be a good decision. Personalize something they use, like a coffee mug or a water bottle, and you usually can't go wrong.

I believe the best gift for a man is something that is useful to them on a daily basis. This varies for each individual. I also believe that no gift should be cookie cutter, as that almost puts a damper on receiving a gift. I would say for me personally, a nice axe would be a good gift.

I always like a durable tool. Not a cheap 15 piece set, just a single tool.

Might be a valid point if you don't value the added benefit of having one. Smartphones aren't for everybody.
