We get durable, sharable toys with wide appeal (video games, Legos) for our kids to play together. We spend less by not getting specialized toys for each of them, while they all still have plenty to play with.

My name is Bob and I'm a Competitive Eating Champion. I excel at eating any type of sweets. I hold the record for most amount of peanut butter cups consumed in 5 minutes. 42.
Number one is really good advice! As a twenty-something year old who often has to forego fun things with my friends because of my bank account, I always find myself saying "I don't have any money for that." But "I'm trying to save" will not only save me from feeling a little embarrassed by my financial situation, but will also somewhat make me feel like I am doing the right thing by opting to chill in one night rather than going out for dinner and drinks with some friends who probably shouldn't be doing that either.
I've never flown on a flight with more than one connecting stop. It is nerve wracking to me to even fly a one-stop flight because of the risks and headaches that come with catching a connection. That being said, I always have the nearby cities box checked when booking flights, because a lot of times you can get ones that are at least $100 less from a close city than the city you're actually flying out of. I live in Tampa now, and I actually found a flight from Orlando to Boston that was $150 cheaper than flying Tampa to Boston, and Orlando is only about an hour drive from here. I do just wish there was an airline like RyanAir in Europe though, flights from country to country can be as cheap as 5 euro! Granted the pilots are a little shady and landing feels like you might crash, but hey, you always get there alive!
Cut your own hair?! What a suggestion! I really like number one on this list and think it works well with writing hand made letter. I think a lot of people underestimate the power of a greeting card or hand written note to remind loved ones- whether its your immediate family, extended family, friends, or just people from your past who you haven't gotten in touch with in a while- it will make you feel good to reach out "just because" and it will definitely brighten their day when they receive it in the mail as a surprise.
Since I mainly work from home, if work is stressing me out, I just go out and have fun with my family at the mall or in a nearby park. If I can't go out, I stop working, sit comfortably on the couch, and do a DVD marathon.
The best way to save on kids toys here in the UK is to shop at the regular sales run by the National Childbirth Trust (NCT). This is where parents come to sell what they no longer need and the prices are incredible. The stuff is really good quality, and many parents choose to take a stall and sell their kids unwanted toys and clothes - a great way to free up cash and space for new purchases.
I am a single mom and I would buy used toys in good condition at garage sales, thrift stores and E-Bay and explain to may son when he was young that they didn't have a box as they were "damaged in transit due to a reindeer accident" and he was lucky to receive them at all. One time I was able to buy 5 1:24 model cars in pristine condition from a collector for what I would have paid for 1 model car retail; it was one of my son's favorite Christmas's.
I stopped buying toys for the kids years ago and give cash instead. The real young ones don't know the difference because they receive so many toys from others and the older ones like cash anyway.
We have a fantastic Goodwill here that alway has great kids' books. Last week I scored a pile of like-new Dr. Seuss books, which are now in my presents drawer. Five books for a good used copy is a great deal.
Yes! The local Public Library! My library has a fantastic selection of newly released DVDs. While I must sometimes wait for the titles I want, I can set up a list of titles, freeze the requests until I'm ready for them and watch for free (unless I return them late). Most libraries also carry CDs and downloadable eAudiobooks and eBooks, not to mention books.
Long-time Facebook fan.
