I've added the accout it was easy to set up and I was shocked at how fast it imported my information, plus it gives you a great way to budget. The site will also tell you how long it will take to pay off debts along with factoring in bills that you already have plus your monthly income. I could use the 500, but the fact that it lays everything out for you is a definite plus.

Homeschooling my teenage sons is the smartest & saneist thing i am doing. The freedom to expand their educational foundation is wonderful. My kids are actually learning, not just memorizing to pass a test like they did in public school. The 1st half year was bumpy as i was trying to imitate the teaching styles of schools. I joined a homeschool group and learned a few tricks of the trade! Check with local schoolboards as they have TONS of free books & learning materal to give away from companys giveing them samples that they will not use. Also some larger churches have a homeschool library to check out materials. Some states even have grants for computers.

Just joined SpringCoin and set up my plan, thanks for the free membership offer. I'm still figuring it out but so far it looks useful. I like the calendar feature that shows the upcoming payments.

Thanks WiseBread! This will be especially useful in organizing all of my bills in one place. I have to echo the other users in that the site is user-friendly and I'm looking forward to the service.

Easy to join - and it looks interesting to use. The only debt I have right now is student loans, so I'll have to manually add those tonight and see where we go from there....

    Thanks for the free signup!

We take several "in the moment" trips. Inside my trunk, I carry a tarp, several thin blankets, and a small camp kit.((or bug out bag)) (everything for cooking outside, & 1st aid) My kids insist that the times we didn't do any major planning were THE BEST memories they had. Last year we hit The worlds largest drive-in while traveling the world's largest yard sale, & when we got out... All camp grounds were full. we just went to a local church, thru down a tarp & "camped". next am...went out to eat for bkft. went sight seeing... and hit a campground the next night. The kids still talk about camping up in the mountians down a country road at "that ole timey church" snuggled up in their blankets...watching the fireflies...soooo peaceful

  • How to Deal With a Rude Neighbor   13 years 52 weeks ago

And when all else fails, you have to accept it or move! We have a neighbor who rides a go-cart up and down our street. It's fast, extremely loud, and dangerous. He has been talked to but refuses to do anything. Our only recourse is to deal w/it or move.

I did sign up but find the automatic budgeting to pay off small amounts like a credit card over the period of multiple months annoying. We always pay off all bills in full each month. I see the benefit for someone who doesn't have a handle on their bills and expenses, but I have yet to see the usefulness in this - I will have to explore further.

  • 50 Best Deals and Coupon Sites   13 years 52 weeks ago

I'm a big fan of http://www.groupon.com for daily deals. I've been using http://useacode.com to help me find coupon codes for my online shopping purchases. Both sites are easy to use and have saved me quite a bit of money over the last few years.

If you do want to go the full-on homeschool route, one neat thing I've heard about is charter homeschools. My friend enrolled her daughter in one -- they provided the curriculum and materials (including a computer), and my friend did the actually teaching.

I signed up and thought the website still needs some work after spending close to 15-20 minutes poking around. Yes, the sign-up was easy, but the rest of it? I could do without. I couldn't add any of my student loans from lenders like Sallie Mae or the Dept. of Education. It didn't find all my bills even after I searched for them. My auto loan through Mazda wasn't available. I also pay my credit cards in full every month. There should be an option to show that via a check-the-box-to-opt-in.

What the site does, I do it all now on my own and it's actually easier to do it on my own (set up a recurring event on Google calendar to remind me when bills are due and I already automated 90% of my payments - extra payments are decided on a month-by-month basis). Maybe it's because I'm an organized person. The site wasn't easy to understand - no FAQ section? Really? No "How to" section? There's no way for me to manually input a debt and I'm not talking about manually searching for them.

Overall, I find the site a little lacking compared to other finance/debt sites. I used to use Mint.com, but I dropped that in favor of the envelope budgeting system - eebacanhelp.com. As for rewards, I use Saveup.com. I guess it can help those who are just starting the debt repayment process, but it's not for more advance users or those who want a more robust and customizable application/experience. Maybe if some of these issues and updates were in place I'll try it again, but for now, I'll stick to my methods and tried-and-true sites. Just my thoughts.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Prefer Getting Gift Cards or Cash?   13 years 52 weeks ago

It depends. Cash is spendable everywhere, but a gift card from someplace I want is just as good in my book. But a gift card for someplace I don't know can be a drag. On the flip side, a gift card thoughtfully purchased for a new or unknown place can be fun.

One of the alternatives to Off-Season travel is going slightly before or after the tourist season starts. We took a family vacation in Colorado around the end of Spring a couple years ago and it was so much fun. It was not as crowded as it would have been during the peak of ski season, but it was still cold enough for us to hit the slopes.

  • 7 Money Moves to Make When You Get a New Job   13 years 52 weeks ago

Avoiding lifestyle inflation is important. When you get a raise it's tempting to just spend it all on something frivolous, but if you can take whatever salary increase you received from your previous job and invest it you can move a lot closer to your financial goals.

  • Secret Lawn Tonic Recipe From Golf Course Groundskeeper   13 years 52 weeks ago

I found this article, and read all the comments, looking for a solution to my garden problem. I live in Clearwater Florida, bought this house about a year ago. So far, I have not been able to grow much of ANYTHING, not even weeds. Most of my neighbors have lawns without watering or fertilizing, and I have been trying and I have mostly bare dirt.

I went looking on the Internet for the rate of application of Ivory Dishwashing Liquid to correct soil that repels water. The soil here is pure sand, yet hard. I have to work hard to soak an area just to dig a hole to plant grass plugs, and when the hole is finally dug, the soil is bone dry underneath. So then I filled the holes with water, and it doesn't drain. I finally realized that this is why nothing will grow.

So, I do have a specific issue to address, and the entire property needs the addition of a surfectant so that water will penetrate the soil. Ivory dish liquid is the inexpensive answer (and the rate would be as per the recipe given here, diluted just with water. I will add food coloring or Miracle Grow so that I know when the solution is gone from the sprayer.).

I am not sure about the other ingredients in this recipe, if they do any good. I can say with certainty that if diluted per the instructions, they won't do any harm. However my guess is that it is the DISH SOAP that makes the biggest difference and results in the reports of "greenest lawn" among the comments.

Soil wetting agents are discussed in many places on the Internet, and I believe it was Colorado State University IFAS Extension website where I found discussion that... the soil should be well watered (as much as possible) before and after application to move the surfectant through the soil. You want some of that soap to get down well into the soil so that water behaves as it should to wet roots, and then keeps on draining away from the roots.

How much to apply? Has been asked over and over, and answered in the comments. Perhaps the blog owner could revise his article once more, to give the full answer which is: Apply as much as you like, so long as you dilute it per the instructions (hose end sprayer on any setting, and don't be stingy with water).

We have found that booking early can save us thousands. We booked a cruise a year ago. We scored a balcony room for three on a seven week cruise. It sailed from a port that was a 6 hour drive from our home. So we saved by not flying. The total cost - $2400. This included all meals, entertainment and of course our cabin. Cruises are a great deal right now, just shop around.
