I like comment # 2. If people find out how much they can put aside towards the debt, they may have more success in getting the creditors paid off. Try to eliminate expenses (like premium channels on TV) that would help in freeing up money for the debts.
Thanks for the quick and easy recipes! These all sound delicious, but I am especially liking #15 - Apples & #24 - Strawberry Scoop Cake (strawberries are a fave of mine). I have never thought to do desserts in my crock pot, but I will definitely be trying these.
It is a toss up between my grandma and my dad. My dad gave us an allowance growing up and taught us how to control our spending and that the allowance was how it was. There would be no more after that. He taught us to be frugal and stretch a buck. In fact, to this day when there is a good deal on something, he'll sometimes call me to tell me. In addiion to my dad, my grandma taught me a lot. She has taught me the fine art of stretching a dollar. I have a love for thrift stores and yard sales from her. At a very young age she would take us and taught the art of yard sale hunting.
This may sound crazy, but thank you for mentioning churches and synagogues here. I am increasingly amazed how many writers leave off these type of "smaller" charities when they write about non-profits. There are incredible religious-affiliated non-profits doing amazing work helping the homeless, the abused, the neglected and the orphans.
I learned the most about economics from Austrian School teachers like Murray Rothbard and others from the Mises Institute, which led me to financial commentators like Peter Schiff and Robert Wenzel. The Austrian School of economics taught me the most about money, how it has been manipulated by the ruling class, how to counter the effects of it, and why having a sound monetary system is so important to civilization.
someone ask about the safety issue is this tonic safe for cats and dogs. My cats like to eat the grass outside, does anyone know the answer to this please?
When I was an undergrad., I took a part time job and graduated debt free. I am now back in school for my graduate degree. I opened a high yield savings account and started saving. I also opened a Roth IRA account for retirement and I recently opened up a brokerage account for investing. I am now 22.. (:
My family is not financially stable. When I was an undergrad., I started to read and learn about finance on my own. Surprisingly it became interesting and I enjoyed it very much. There is always so much to learn about finance so the only way to stay on top is to continue educating myself.
Neat trip. It's not uncommon for western companies to propose solutions that break and become problems (e.g. wells that can't be fixed with local tools and knowledge, bikes that can't be tuned and fixed once the mechanic returns to wherever). Sounds like a great experience. Whats your next trip and can I go too?
Definitely my mother. As a single parent raising 4 kids, with little child support, she showed us how to stretch a dollar and to think before we spend.
Thank you for sharing this great story Jason. There are so many areas of the world that needs our help and attention. It is nice to see people spending their vacation time to make a difference in the world.
Over the years I have had
2 horses
2 cats
1 dog
fish tanks
albino corn snake
chameleon
hedgehog
I currently have one horse and a rabbit.
HIGHEST MAINTENANCE:
Chameleon and hedgehog.
HEDGEHOGS crap all over thier cages and its squishy and the smelliest poop Ive ever smelled (even when eating a proper diet, and not that commercial hedgie food crap)
THEY STINK. oh my god they smell so horrible. Tried 319843 beddings too.
ALSO: thier health: I found it really hard to keep on top of two things: his ears: even with medication, his ears kept cracking and it looked painful and they were yellow and gross. I couldnt get rid of it. And cutting thier nails every week or two blows. They can break thier legs if you have a mesh/wire wheel.....
HEDGEHOGS ARE HIGH MAINTENANCE.
They run on thier wheels and make noise all night, even when I tried to get him on my schedule......
he was fun to play with/bathe, and he liked to give me kisses/suck on my hair..... even so, he wouldnt uncurl if anyone else was in the room. He'd hiss and stress himself out if there was any noise..... hated people who werent me.
CHAMELEONS: VERY HIGH MAINTENANCE/DONT LIKE NOISE/VERY FRAGILE
BOTH OF THESE NEED PERFECT TEMPERATURES. NOT FOR BEGINNERS.
A horse is easier to take care of than a hedgehog.
Beginner pets: Rats. Rabbits! (just clean his cage lots and leave him alone if he doesnt want to be picked up and he should be nicer than a cat)
I use nail polish on the inside of my washer where the enamel is chipped off. It only needs to be done a couple times a year. You can find white at the dollar store for french tipped nails. No rust stains on your whites, love it. My in-laws have used it on their mini van for stone chips.
I am not a fan of coupons for all reasons you stated. That said searching online for discount codes or coupons before making a large purchase, that you were going to make anyway can be worthwhile.
I enjoyed the metaphor of the third point because it caught the spirit of the whole article: be passionate about getting the job and throw whatever resources are available into it. Some of the others were expressions of creativity I would never try but still amusing. And if someone did get their job that way, I guess the joke's on me. I will include puppetry on my next resume :)
I touch up chips or scratches on my kitchen floor. Polish comes in soooo many colors now, it's easy to match yours, or even mingle several colors.
Did I miss what the soda and beer do?

I had no idea how many other ways that nail polish could be used. I am now going to use my nail polish to seal my letters and see how great it works.

I like WiseBread on Facebook.
I learned everything from my parents. They're very frugal!

My choice is just not to buy disposables. Why not just use real stuff, and avoid them altogether?
She said she's a writer, remember?
