OMG, I am horrified seeing all these people addicted to pop drinks. I am lucky I didn't grow up drinking sodas or eating fast food. I don't crave neither one of them... at all - thank you God. I don't even like them to be honest.
When I tasted MtDew for the first time, I thought my teeth were going to fall out right there and right then. It was THAT SWEET. My teeth actually started aching. I had to brush my teeth immediately. After that, I used to mix a shot glass of MtDew in like 16oz of water to dilute it... Nowadays, I steer clear of these chemical killers.
Another disgusting image is someone drinking a pop soda for breakfast. Yuck. It's cold and terribly over sweetened. How can do that people?
I salute everyone who stopped drinking pop sodas!
I have an ok (I think it's okay) alternative: if I want flavor, I mix Sobe Life water (sweetened with Erythritol) with a spring water or Canada Dry bubbly water with natural flavors...
We have a freezer (circa 2003), a refrigerator (circa 1997), and use laptop computers with LCD or LED monitors. We figured out - a long time ago - that all of those other appliances mentioned (although we've never had a pool pump, because we don't have a pool :) were power hogs and got rid of them - no dryer, no television, no space heating (we heat solely with our woodstove).
With regard to the television, we discovered that most of the shows we might want to watch, we could watch online anyway or on Netflix. So, it just seemed logical to cut the cable (and saved $70/month) and then, get rid of the television, since we were watching everything on the computer anyway. By not using the television for the past year, we saved over $200 on our electric bill.
And by cutting out most of those other things, we use less than 400 kwh of electricity per month, averaging about 10 kwh/day.
I really liked the ingredient lists on some of your marinades, they were intriguing enough for me to read on. However, I'm one of those cooks that does little experimenting (due to my very limited budget), but prefers an actual foolproof (that's me in the kitchen!) recipe. If you would please, please email me the full recipes (IE- with measurements) I'd be very grateful. I love to grill out and summer's coming, so they'll go to good use. They sound very easy to make, and use ingredients that won't be a one use purchase for me. Thanks for the great and timely article!! Brava!!
Not yet - everything's organized and ready to enter though. I try to gauge it so that I just owe a bit each year - don't want to give Uncle Sam an interest free loan. Usually I file my own taxes, but this year I'm making use a friend's new tax service -less stress for me and business for her and about the same cost. If I happen to get a bit back, well, it'll go into the emergency fund I'm building.
I have filed my federal taxes, but not state taxes yet. I live in a state that requires a jointly-filed state return for people registered as domestic partners, but since my partner has not yet filed her federal taxes, I am waiting on her to get the state taxes done.
i use baking soda as shampoo
and a sodium/paraban free conditioner.
i can't go product free because my hair is naturally curly, but i use less product, i feel.. and my hair looks great! shampoo's would dry the crap out of my hair.....it's finally building up oils which i had to add myself. thank goodness
We haven't yet filed our taxes (our deadline is April 30th). We're still waiting for statements to be mailed to us... but otherwise, we're all set. I know we'll be owing an arm and a leg this year... so we're not too eager to do our darn taxes.
