I think everyone should sign up for more mail and catalogs. This will keep the Post Office lucrative and keep our Saturday mail coming. (Plus, when rolled up tightly, junk mail makes nice logs for the outdoor firepit.)
Haha - awesome. There is always someone more frugal than you. Chocolate covered ants? Maybe. Insert burgers? It will take me a while to take a bite of that one. Thanks for sharing.
I firmly believe in the intangible benefits of becoming debt free, so even though the numbers might not always add up to make paying a mortgage off early the 'best' goal, for the other reasons you stated (security, less stress), there are definite benefits!
Taking courses this way is a great way to "preview" a degree you're interested in pursuing. So instead of jumping into an MBA right away, take an intro MBA course online. Spend a fraction of the cost and figure out if you want to pursue the degree or not.
And if you really like the online component, then maybe you'll do the whole degree online.
Homemade yams with mini marshmallows are one of my favorites. Warm, gooey, sweet goodness that's easy to make and is a side, not a dessert, on Thanksgiving!
Do you realize you can buy 50 lb bags of whole wheat or corn meal or millet at you local feed store that can be used to feed your family? Your price for this wonderful food is pennies on the doller compared to what you pay in regular stores! Yes, you need to look over the product before you cook it . But you do this when you pick over dry beans before you cook them! Same thing... I have done this for years and the savings is BIG.
My favorite is pumpkin pie, which isn't all that expensive to make. My husband usually makes several and we send them homes with guests. I really only eat pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, so it just seems extra special during this time of year.
I adore homemade mashed potatoes and gravy at Thanksgiving, as well as homemade yeast dinner rolls. I love carbs during Thanksgiving, and both are affordable too! :)
My favorite Thanksgiving dish/comfort food is sweet potato yams with marshmellows melted on top. I have a real sweet tooth. I only make this dish at Thanksgiving time so I really enjoy going back for seconds.
Any recipe with sweet potatoes. Every year we switch recipes, but usually the dish includes sweet potatoes and brown sugar. You can't go wrong with that combination.
Thanks Andrew! I'm listening to the Steve Jobs book on audiobook right now and this is one of the big takeaways I have so far. He definitely went to the beat of his own drum...and it paid off in his case.
Crab cakes, but made with canned salmon. It's so inexpensive, but so tasty. And being short on both time and money, these can be pre-made into just the patties and frozen for pan-frying later.
this is just another scam to get money from the american public...all i can say is that anyone who does this will have short term gain and long term loss...It would cost me over 100,000 more over the life of my loan to save a measly $200.00 a month...
I'm big on finding ways to differentiate yourselves from what others offer in the market. People pay attention to and buy things from people that are marching to the beat of their own drummer, or offering something unique.

Pinto beans and corn bread. It's extremely inexpensive and wonderful. Also liked on Facebook.
That meal sounds awesome! The appetizer alone looks/sounds heavenly.
BTW, thanks for the pudding guy mention. Interesting story. :) http://www.snopes.com/business/deals/pudding.asp
Crockpot vegetarian chili. My kids love it over spaghetti noodles.

Mine is a PB&Honey with a cold glass of milk. Slam dunk every time.
My favorite budget Thanksgiving food is homemade mashed potatoes with real butter --- so fluffy and tasty :)

My family's traditional comfort food derives from German peasant fare. One-pot potatoes, kale, and sausage.

Thanksgiving isn't "Thanksgiving" without Green Bean Casserole on the table. I loved it as a kid and look forward to it on my holiday meal table.

I love whole wheat pasta with sun-roasted tomatoes, basil and a little olive oil. It is easy and quick to make, and very yummy!
Cornbread Stuffing...
Love it...

Very nice post. Had to share it with my readers!

Thanks for the tips, Jason! (You had me at "free travel".)
Since I loooove my crockpot AND baked beans, this is perfect! Thanks!
