Until very recently my focus was on paying off the mortgage before investing more but then I realized I could do both. Now we take a hybrid approach: investing to build enough money to pay the mortgage. I keep both totals in a spreadsheet and once they overlap I'm going to pull the investments and dump the mortgage. Maybe not the fastest approach to being debt-free but I've done the math and it seems quicker than the alternatives.
My favorite Thanksgiving budget dish is Ham stuffed in dressing because it is quick, easy, simple and cheap. It not only provides comfort to the mouth but it also provides enjoyment to the stomach.
My favorite frugal Thanksgiving dish is deviled eggs. They are easy to make and usually have all the ingredients in the fridge all ready. I also use my mother's recipe so it makes the holiday special. However, the canned cranberry sauce has a special place in my heart as well.
My favorite dish for Thanksgiving is the dressing. I still cannot replicate the recipe my mom had, even though I have the recipe! I gave up and just make my own rendition now, and add some sage sausage and chopped green apple for a kick up :)
so time has come and gone, where have your decissions taken you? and all the comments left on this post, where are the people that took the time to write back?
We can all type a possitive or a negative message, at the end, time goes by and if all we can do is type our thoughts and live others dreams than time well wasted.
For me, I have left a stable, sought after high paying job in the computer industry to pursue my dream of rebuilding homes, I find the ugliest, most beaten home in a neighborhood and bring up to life, making it some body elses dream or start of a dream come true.
I have taken a big chance, and if it wasnt for the support of my wife I would not be able to live my dream. With every success story, nobody cares to take the time and look at the sacrifice that went behing that success. What is success? is success a goal that others find unatainable? is success a struck of luck? if you ask me, I would say, success is reaching the goal you set for your self!! long time ago, you dont remember this, but you set a goal and that was to take one step without falling, and look how far you have walked up to today..................
your goals are all attainable just dont loose site of the goal, one step at a time, you will fall, but how did you manage to take that second step, long time ago???
I know it's common place, but mashed potatoes with turkey gravy are my favorite Thanksgiving comfort food. They are great on the budget too! I must have my dinner ending with pumpkin pie and whipped cream for a perfect holiday meal!
Stuffing is the all-time comfort food associated with Thanksgiving...and its budget friendly too. Day old bread, giblets supplied with the turkey, onions, celery, and you are good to go!
If I had that much money, I would wisely invest it in savings and give at least 95% of the interest every year to save peoples lives, through food or clean water etc..., and take what I needed to live from the remainder. Who knows, maybe I could feed all the hungry people in my state every year for the rest of my life. If only I had the chance. The people with money, do not care.
I recently video taped myself doing a couple of introductions/interviews. I couldn't believe some of the habitual body language things I was doing and had no idea I even did those things so often. I also used filler words when I spoke. Paying attention is what I do now to minimize the distracting actions.
I learned this recipe a long time ago from an Italian friend. The two reasons I love to add it to party tables is that it makes a healthy light addition to rather heavy Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner and also it makes a rather economical use of proscuitto. The last but not least advantage of this dish is that it's so easy my men don't mind helping make it :)
Melon with Proscuitto
Cut melon into slices about 1in long and put a proscuitto band around it. Any will do, but my personal favorite is honeydew. Depending on how wide the proscuitto slices are you may cut them in half length-wise.
Strange as it may sound when I need a comfort food, I reach for a slice of hard salami with a cup of strong sweet tea. Since salami is not part of our regular diet, I have to keep a stick in the freezer. This actually works well for controlling my cravings: one can't easily cut hard frozen salami and also one has to wait before partaking in this unhealthy and pricy comfort snack, so the stick goes a long long long way :)
My favorite food at Thanksgiving is my family sausage stuffing which is sweet and spicy.
Everyone in my family loves it and I always make more for leftovers the next few days.
I am a nurse and health writer, who has researched diabetes and hyperinsulinemia / insulin resistance extensively over the years -- read my blogpost on Metformin ER AJsBodBlog.blogspot.com for more information about metformin. Metformin ER can be a very useful medication, if not overused. I started putting a capful from a vanilla vodka miniature (less than 1/2 tsp) into my coffee several times a day, and noticed it seems to control insulin and appetite for me about the same as taking some fraction of a Metformin ER tablet (depending on how big, and how many carbs I anticipate in meal) before meals. I am researching alcohol and reducing blood sugars, which brought me to this blog post. Good luck to you all. -- AJ
My fave comfort food is Hello Dolly Bars and not only do they satisfy a large group but is quite budget friendly! Take a large 9x13 rectangle pan and just layer! Take 2 inner packages graham crackers, ground into crumbs, mix 1/2-3/4 cup unsalted butter & press down with fork. Then layer, 2 cups shredded coconut, 2 cups chocolate chips, 1 cup chopped pecans.Lastly pour 1, 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk all over and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden.
I tried the "hot water" thing, it didn't work. I'll try the "toothpaste" method when I get home....
Thanks. For your time :)

I love sweet potato casserole for a Thanksgiving side dish. Wait all year for it!

I love to make deviled eggs! We have friends with chickens who give us more eggs than we need, so it's a low-cost food that everyone will eat. Yum. :)
My favorite Thanksgiving comfort food is Sweet Potato Pie. Good stuff!

I love making dressing. It's a Thanksgiving necessity and it is a dish that feeds lots! I like to make it ahead & keep it hot in the slow cooker.

I liked Wise Bread on Facebook

I do. My credit union posts it on my accounts page. It is updated regularly too.
My favorite thanksgiving food is roast lamb! I also love to have yorkshire puddings and gravy with it! Yummy!

A quart of dry beans is 2 lbs. I think that would be too much for a crockpot? And, it would feed quite a few people--definitely more than 4-6.
