I could easily get along without a cell phone, they are nice but I am often threatening to get rid of mine just for the peace and quiet that I would have. I lived for 5 years without any kind of phone and loved it.
I have survived without a cellphone but only for a short time. Its hard to live in NYC and there are no working payphones for when you need to make a call. So I have gone back to having a cellphone but it is prepaid.
The best investment I have made was an annuity that rated a 4.6 percent interest rate so I gained a thousand dollars a year! Could have been a lot more if I had more money in it!
I would have to say my iPod --- with a long commute everyday for work I always felt like I was wasting time in the car, now I listen to Audio books and podcasts both of which that have helped my career.
Recenlty I joined a new church and found they have every worship going back to 2006 in podcasts... I've been listening to them lately and it's help my relationship with my wife and kids... All this comes from making the decision to by an ipod :)
The best investment that I have made was 15 months of my time volunteering in West Africa. I gained an enormous amount of perspective on the world and my life. I met a lot of wonderful people including my wife.
Im just getting ready to jump with this one... I am quitting my job to stay home with my 15 mo old. To me, investing in his character at this point is priority. Thanks for your encouraging post, because going down to one income scares me to death!
Best investment has been hands down... MY MARRIAGE! What would life be like without someone to enjoy it with? My spouse and I have gone through highs and lows but our commitment to each other and the investments we make daily in our marriage have enriched our lives beyond imagine.
The smartest investment was getting my bachelor's degree. I lost my job because I had a stroke (at 45 years old!) and decided to go to school full time for a year. I got my degree last month and now I'm looking for a J-O-B. The gift card would be helpful. :)
The smartest investment I ever made was my education. It will last me a lifetime and will provide me with the most benefit over the longrun. I think that and education is the best investment for anyone.
I agree with this comment. I saved $100 when my check engine light came on by going to one of the auto stores that diagnosed it for free. The solution? I needed a new gas cap... cost $12. A fantastic bargain over the auto shop in both time & $.
My best investment has been joining ING Direct. Their website provides a wealth of knowledge and many tools to help teach your children about savings and investing.
The best investment I've made is one I'm currently making- therapy for a loved family member, to get past general anxiety disorder. No amount of money can make life good if there is an untreated mental disorder.
Excluding the obvious, high-volume investments (Roth IRA, emergency fund, education) the first thing that springs to mind is my sewing machine. No more paying retail for drapes, pillows, and tablecloths. No more paying for simple tailoring. I look smart for work, have a adorable place, and did I mention - easy, inexpensive gifts?
My smartest investment was adding on an extra year to my college education and receiving two bachelor degrees instead of one. While it cost several thousand more in tuition and living expenses, it opened twice as many job opportunities to me upon graduation, and has since put me in a career that may have not been achievable without receiving both.
When I opened my bookstore in 1987, I used my money is a way that gave me more satisfaction that any other investment I have ever made. The store lasted 17 years, but the pleasure of being surrounded by books, magazines, recorded music, etc, provided me with an honorable return for the best years of my life.
I have invested in many stock and bonds over the years, but on balance, I don't think the return has been much. I think that only insiders and wall street power-brokers actually make above average returns. And since all these investments are just computer clicks, or paper entries, not much satisfaction has been gained.

My best investment was spending mucho for fertility treatments, which resulted in my beautiful twins! They complete my life.

The time I have invested in doing the things I truly enjoy. It energizes and makes me more efficient in all aspects fo life.
I could live without a cell phone. Not sure if my family and friends could take me not having one.

I could do without a cell.

I bought Apple stock at $65 a share. I bought more at $85 a share and was nervous about the second buy. Well it has paid off.
If I had to, I could go without my cell phone. I only use it to make calls. But it would feel very inconvient at first.

I cannot survive without a cell phone just like I can't survive without food and water. There's just some things ya gotta have.
My smartest investment would be marrying my spouse. Together my spouse and I make a formidable couple.

The smartest investment I've made is my Samsung Galaxy S Smartphone. It's like a mini computer and I can run my side business from it wherever I am.

The best personal investment I have ever made was my computer. My computer makes entering these contests possible. :)
