I have admit. I am curious about box wines. However as a Food Scientist, I would present the experiment as little different.
I would compare box to bottle of the same wine. I have seen a few brands at the liquor store that are both carried in a box and bottle format. This is a way to approach the test and rid the stigmata of the box or (if applicable) reinforce it with a true basis.
Just a little simple preference test.
Get plastic wine glasses at the store. For each wine give it a three digit code. Make sure those codes do not read 911, 666, 777, or any surrounding area codes. (So there is not number preference.) Do not let the guest see what the wine codes are but obviously the host would have to know them.
Serve the same wine. One from box (A) and one from bottle (B). Make sure to serve half the people the order A B and the other half B A. This way there is no placement preference.
Then see how many prefer A or B. Make the guest have to select one every time. There is no equal.
If it's about 50% for A or B, they are about the same and buy box wine with confidence. But, if they are like 75 - 25% you know which package of wine was preferred. Repeat for the next test.
I want to try it and have probably three kinds of wine both in bottle and box. However, since I keep moving long distance I don't know enough people in the area to make this a good test. (Three people is not enough people to really test this hypothesis.)
Would someone like to try this and report back the results? :)
Yeah, I find Costco pizzas to be a really good deal (or Sam's Club, for that matter) in terms of feeding several people. I guess if I tried really hard, I might be able to create the equivalent from scratch for under what I pay at Costco (which is, what, $12?), but the cost of the cheese and tomato sauce alone almost puts me over the top.
I love take-out pizza, mind you, so I might be biased.
Often cheap wine can taste wonderful, you just have to know what to do with it. A friend of mine took a class on wine, and learned how aerating wine (in a wide decanter or w/ a screw-top aerator) can dramatically improve the quality. That wouldn't work on a box, but I'm with you - it's a struggle to ignore the price!
Okay, maybe I'm just not shopping in the right places or maybe I'm not making it as "from scratch" as my readers.
I agree that homemade is going to be waaaay healthier than anything you'll buy from the pizza chains but if we're talking strictly cost here, I usually come out cheaper buying the pizzas ready made...
If anyone has some inexpensive recipes they'd like to share, I for one would love to add them to my recipe box (yes, I still have that hideous thing from Jr. High home ec class!) or better yet... I'll follow my own advice, save the paper and store the recipe on a notepad file instead :)
Although most of the cops I know are pure professionals, there's a few real cowboys out there (especially amongst the state police, it seems) who will pull all sorts of tricks to give you a ticket. There was a rash of people who complained that a state trooper on once certain highway route would pull up behind them in the dark, turn on his high beams, tailgate really close, and wag back and forth like a lunatic until the driver sped up to get around whatever car was in the slow lane to get out of the way (despite being a 4-lane highway) then they'd get a ticket. It happened to us (my slowpoke husband driving, me and 3 kids in the car), and it happened to several other friends who are all cautious (and middle aged) drivers, and despite numerous complaints to the barracks supervisor nothing was done. At least with OUR crazy cop ticket we went to court to fight it and won!
There was also a town cop in a nearby town who was reportedly doing the same thing, only he'd turn off his headlights at night, speed up to a slow driver, then pull a similar scary act to get the nervous driver to speed up, then ticket him. He did it to my cousin, her brother, and finally my uncle, who worked for the town and had enough pull to finally get the chief to listen. At least that cop got nailed once enough people complained.
Most cops are just doing their job, but there's always a few bad apples...
Out of the blue I received a text from 226-22 stating that I have an available balance in my netspend account... Funny thing is I don't have a Netspend account and now I received another text stating that the account is being used for a purchase. I can only hope someone used my phone number as a fake for themselves.
This number is new for me so I don't know. I do know I don't want or would never need a prepaid card, so I hope this crap stops.
Or maybe it is a ploy to get me to call to find out why I am receiving the texts hoping to pull some info out of me.
I will not answer.
Best regards to all and Happy holidays!
right after the digital transition i picked up a couple of small analog tvs at goodwill for about $7 each. one for my sega genesis and one for my atari 2600.
fortunately i have the space for them.
i know where there's an intact commodore 6 with monitor but my dad's not giving it up just yet!
Nice article. I don't know about saving paper because paper is cheap but I like the your idea about eating out. To save even more money my wife and I split meals when we eat out because they give so much foof that we brind it home and then it sits in the fredge.
I always hit the 75% off Target toy sale. It Rocks! I do nearly my whole year of children's birthday and holiday shopping at that time and just store it in a gift closet. Last year I got $300 air hockey tables for $23 and foosball tables for $15. It was amazing. I also picked up Disney barbie princess set, with all six barbies that were originally $60 for $15.
The Disney store is always good for bargains, as well. I've picked up $120 princess dresses for $20.
Thanks so much for the article. I have felt stuck for sometime and now I have a possible solution togetting unstuck. I have worked most of my life and now would like to travel, write and become self-employed; however, my employment will now become working whereever I choose and not inside of an office or cubicle. I would also like to continue my education (online) of course and this appears to provide the best of both worlds. Additionally, I am debt-free so perhaps now is the time.
I have recently subscribed to The Caretaker Gazette and look forward to the research.
If you warm up with a hot bath, let the bathwater sit (and open the bathroom door) after you're done, instead of sending it down the drain right away. Heat that you've already paid for will continue to radiate from the water into your house.
He has misunderstood his audience recently. He tried something here in the UK to try and predict the lottery numbers, which of course he did.
He explained as a mathematical problem but I just don't buy that otherwise plenty of other (far more intelligent math boffins)people would have figured it out years ago.
Think it was one stunt too far and he lost a lot of credibility with that.
Although my family can afford to buy Christmas presents we felt that this year we should all make an effort to be more frugal and try and move away from the commercialism of Christmas.
The 5 of us each made brownies and we placed 1 from each of our cooking efforts into a little box that we dressed and then gave them to family. It worked like a treat because everyone kept telling us which was their favourite brownie in the box (each had a white chocolate initial on to identify who made what)
Plus the fact that as a family, we enjoyed doing it together.
Mostly because I use direct deposit and the internet to check my balance so I don't get charged any fees if I use these methods I have used the card for more than 8 years now. But I do find it strange that netspend would send you cards with out filling out the proper paper work. I originally used the prepaid cards to shop on the internet just in case of identity theft, I put only the amount of money I needed to buy something and used the entire card balance the same day so if any shmuck has the card number he or she won't get anything from it.
There are always those in the world who will give up on life. The only real problems with this is that
1. they often want others to resign themselves to the same mind-numbing fate of never stiving, and
2. their tombstone is always incorrect. It will state the day their body left their mother's womb, and the day it stopped physically functioning, rather than the day they really died - which is the one when they chose to give up on stiving for anything in life.
Me? I would far rather die standing tall and strong, stiving to my final breath to reach beyond that which I have already accomplished, rather than living on my knees in a state of zomby-ism!
Well I got mine I works great I’m in college and my room does not have a phone and my cell doesn’t get good service. So I purchased the device for $20.00 and I was able to use the service free for 1 year for just the purchase of the device once the full year ended I played 20 dollars for reactivation as well as many other students.
I’ve saved enough money from my campus job without paying phone bills that I’ve played for my materials books and eat out every day something that I wouldn’t be able to do because of budgeting.
So I’m at my 3rd year at college and I’m planning on keeping it. It works great there are no problems not only can you hook a phone to the device. But when you plug it in you can make calls off of the desktop alone as long as you have a microphone and speaker. I’m not sure why everyone thinks its a scam. its just voip like skype only difference is its all self contained into a device making it cheaper than maintaining many severs in a large building like skype. If you take into concideration what phone companys are actually charging you for? I mean every day their fixing a phone line.
the money I give magic jack for the first year pays for the device and they pay for your first year of service then the rest of the time the $20.00 pays them to cover a year of my use of the proxy sever and domain that the device uses to send the signal. and it make it eaiser for people like me. really dont critisize beacuse you know you havent bought one. your stubbern and dont like change. unfortunetly change is here so deal with it im pretty sure my 5.0 beats your typo.
To everyone he hasnt convinced go try one beacuse there is no scam involved america doesnt pattent scams its been aproved by the highest. ive seen the people who construct it. They have intelligent engineer’s sales men and cotomer support is standing by all the time. ive even recently noticed that many costomers feel that they would enjoy more features they posted them on the site and new construction is underway its like there lintening unlike my old phone company when i call they pute me on hold and the mysteriesly the my call gets droped during transfer. All the new features they make for magic jack are updated automaticly throught the web similar to firmware on the playstation. Im never going back :)
Phone companies are a standard magic jack is a gadget what’s wrong with that you don’t have to buy it but don’t drop an opportunity such as this because someone doesn’t find it logical! Personally I find it offensive that this person could have influenced my decision before I bought one then I would of spent loads of money. And the article writer probably ruined a great opportunity for others as well as many who write this crap! Well in return I want to point out “Ladies And Gentlemen THIS WRITER IS a FRAUD”
I think I’m going to make my own forum about this Asshole
If you want to call my magic jack email me cuss its free for me I can make calls all night lol.
Any way just thought I’d Wright a full Page about my concerns Bye : ) LOVE DUSTIN
Ps Sorry i didnt pute any pictures of how angry I looked theres no room to angry heres a typed version >:^(
For example, pizza can be a relatively cheap meal for a family of four with the right coupons, while making your own pizzas at home can get quite costly.
You're going to take a beating from Wise Bread regulars over this assertion. Scratch cooking plus careful shopping will put you out well ahead of take-out. In addition, I make my pizza with whole wheat flour, real olive oil, more reasonable (moderate) amounts of cheese, and lots of veggies. So my home made pizza is much healthier than Domino's as well.
Take-out is also extremely high in sodium. Even if someone made burgers at home, they probably would not add the amounts of salt present in fast food.
Plus, the coupon "deals" often involve free soda, which is not good for you and which you don't need.
If you want to eat out occasionally as a treat, or while traveling, go ahead. But don't justify it on the grounds of saving money, or convince yourself that the meal is just as healthy as what you would make at home.
"you are a retard. wood is not an element, it is made of several different elements and mostly carbon."
This was really bugging me, water is not an element either yet it has a liquid form, so your logic is flawed. FYI, Water is hydrogen and oxygen.

Ease of accessibility/availability does NOT necessarily mean that emulators/roms are legal. Check your local copyright laws.
if you have a computer already don't spend a dime and just get emulators. The roms and emulators you can find for free.
This is a disappointing post as several of the "tech tools" you recommend can be found elsewhere for free.
Screengrab! - Is a great screengrab tool for Firefox, Jing was mentioned above, it is also good - http://bit.ly/4ThzkM
There are several free applications that allow you to schedule tweets - Hootsuite and CoTweet are two of them - http://bit.ly/820nBL & http://bit.ly/5k5R8e
