Brooklyn Bar Association accepting stolen $$$ from the Chasidic Maddoff Thug Louis & Joel Kestenbaum to sponsor the Cocktail Hour.
It is a travesty of Justice when the Bar Association is accepting donations when actually this money comes from defaulted loans. How did 22 year old Joel Kestenbaum secure over 1 Billion dollars in Bank Loans which are now worthless guarentees and wiped out Banks like Corus Bank, Wachovia Bank, Bank of Netherland etc. View Madoff Kestenbaum History:

U.S.A. v. Louis Kestenbaum for defrauding Proctor & Gamble millions of dollars.
Capitalism is the best economic system around - but that doesn't mean it is the perfect solution to every problem. If it was all highways would be for profit and you would have to pay a toll every time to got on a road - because our public highway system is by definition socialist. Public schools....socialist. That doesn't mean we should start charging families per student to attend elementary school. Would you want to be charged by the fire department to save your house if it was burning? If you didn't have money to pay for their service - they would just let your house burn because....that is capitalism. The point is, some services may not make sense to privatize - which is why we have government. I personally think health care is one of these services because decisions on a person's health should not be made by companies wanting to turn a profit. And...you shouldn't be excluded from healthcare because you can't afford insurance.
I have a Southern Living Cookbook from the 1960's, which consists of recipes mailed in from readers. There are several variations on 'Johhny Marzetti'. I don't know where that name came from either, but the basic casserole seems to be hamburger, tomato product (anything from ketchup through sauce and on to stewed), and noodles/spaghetti.
My healthy New Year's habit for 2010 is to cut out juices/wasted calories. I'll still drink tons of water and indulge in coffee, but I should get rid of other empty calorie drinks.
I've definitely got to cut back on the soda consumption. I'm a Diet Coke addict, and I know my pocketbook and my body will both thank me if I can get it out of my life!
Health care itself is not a right- we have the right to have access to health care. In our current situation, we have that. Everyone has the ability to go see a doctor. We have the right to vote- but that doesn't mean that everyone gets to vote who shows up or that everyone does vote.
Education is a right and it is mandatory for all children to attend school, therefore we need to have public schools. I agree with funding them with tax money, but I think the money should be returned to families sending their children to private schools (in our town, it would actually save the town money to do that and keep taxes down).
And in our town and many surrounding ones, the FD is all-volunteer. Of course the town pays for the trucks and whatnot, but the firemen are all volunteers, so we really aren't paying that much for our fire service. I would argue that having a FD, PD, or Library is not a right, either. They are certainly good things to have and we need them, but I wouldn't call them a right. A right implies that we deserve whatever it is we are talking about, and being a human being does not mean you are entitled to anything you want.
Socialism is not an unnecessary fear- it takes away our choices and does not understand that everyone is different and we all require different things in our lives to make us happy. If the gov gives us everything, what motivation is there to work? What if I don't want the public option health care? I may not have to have it (right now) but I still have to pay for it. What if I don't want any health insurance? Then I am SOL. THAT is what is not right.
My goal for next year is to improve my sleep schedule (find my rhythm, and stick to it), and to make time to de-rez. Time away from TV, phones, computers, etc. Book time. Writing time. Reflecting time. The rest seems to fall out of the relaxed self, for me at least.
I agree with the above poster that packing lunches is a great way to save money. I try to limit myself to eating out once a week but I am going to try and make it once a month in 2010.
Every little amount of money saved helps.
One of my New Year's resolutions is to cut back on soda (oh, how I love Coca-Cola though I know it's empty calories, too much sugar, destroying my tooth enamel, etc., etc.) and junk food (I am a total baked goods and chocolate addict!). These things will not only make me drop a few pounds and be healthier, but it will also save me a bunch of money (as will good health in the long run).
I started in 2009 to focus on what is important in my life and to simplify. I had too many things, most of which never got used. I am a financial counselor and author of a guide that provides basic financial money management information and tips to women. My goal personally is to keep simplifying and to really think before I spend. My goal professionally is to help as many women as i can become financially aware and empowered.
Most kids aren't likely to gnaw away on their Zhu Zhu Pet. Some kids, though, are more likely to do so, and some people may worry about pets who tend to be rough with found toys.
I heard about the metal concentrations of the toys on special needs blogs, and there are a number of conditions where interested children may be likely to chew on non-food items. A neurotypical child may be fairly safe with the cuddly things, whereas their autism-spectrum neighbour may not be. My rabbit chews everything she can reach, and my little one might decide that the rabbit might want to play with the toy hamster...
It's good to know both reports, to best understand the risks and to be able to consider the situation. If we're gifted with a Zhu Zhu pet, I'll make sure it never is introduced to the bunny, and I'll keep the reports in mind when we consider the toy's life cycle.
I'm going to try and break my persistent soda addiction. I also need to get back into my running routine, but that will have to start pre-new year to get ready for the new years 5k!
You're an adult.
This country's real problem is personal responsibility. No one wants to accept it anymore.
I know the media, MTV, etc has conditioned the youth to believe that they have a RIGHT to a life w/o any problems but that's not reality and eventually reality catches us all. Government is not the solution it is the problem.
I'm going to be cutting back on the soda, and up-ing the veggie intake; I'm going to have one salad meal a week. I may increase it from there, but one I figure I can stick with..
New Year's is a time for me to stop, breathe and really take a look at what I'm doing with myself in my life.
Generally, that amounts to figuring out if I've stuck to exercise routines, if I've been eating well, if I've been taking care of my emotional self.
This year, after taking stock, I know that I've been reading too much and not exercising enough, so I've decided to invest in an exercise DVD and really go to town. I'm not a big outdoorsy person on days like today (it's a high of 8 degrees in Denver), so I know my activity has to happen inside.
Second, I've decided that I need to eat more veggies and drink more water. Simple stuff, I know, but I let it fall by the wayside too much this year.
And last, I'm going to take care of my emotional needs better by going out and finding a guy that I can fall hard for. Worst case scenario, my libido will get a long overdue workout, best case, I meet the guy of my dreams. I'm determined this year!!

I remember butter and sugar sandwiches for breakfast. Mmm, very tasty.
And saving bacon grease is a foodie's secret weapon -- not just a frugal tactic. Great for cooking up scrambled eggs! Mmm, tasty.
drink more water and exercise more

What fraction of health problems are self-imposed through poor lifestyle choices?
What fraction of illnesses are beyond a person's control?
Leave unsubsidized illnesses with known behavioral risk factors.
Subsidize illnesses for which there is no behavioral risk factor.
Well said!!!

I'm changing the carbs that I'm eating to include more whole grains and complex carbohydrates.

Bacon grease! That's seasoning, it makes everything taste better. I still do that today, not to be fugal -- it's a good thing (Channeling Martha). LOL

Since I just went gluten free and feel better I am going to stick with that but also reduce my portion sizes.
I'm going to try and break my persistent soda addiction. I also need to get back into my running routine, but that will have to start pre-new year to get ready for the new years 5k!
Ever since I can remember I've been stuffing cookies down my throat and then washing them down with 3.25% milk every night.
Well this year I made the move to 1% milk, my New Year's Resolution is to stop the cookies completely. Will I do it? You bet your wise bread I will.

Sooner people learn this the better we'll all be.
I drink too much Coke, and not enough water. If I drink more water I will save save at least $6/week!
