Disguised as a deal: Say no to store credit cards

The fashion bloggers that flock to the streets of New York City during Fashion Week often share a similar money mindset: Spending thousands of dollars on a purse is the norm. Me? Not so much. I may feel frenzied by the fashion — powerful pantsuits, preppy pleats, pretty (millennial) pink! — but spending that much on style, IMO, is basically a sin. I still want to stay on-trend, so resisting the urge to spend my life savings on a pair of shoes and sunglasses can be tough. But, I believe in keeping up with high fashion as frugally as I can, taking advantage of every deal, discount, plugin and promo code possible.

How to sneakily save on shoulder season travel

It’s that time of year when many of us happily swap our swimsuits for sweaters and chilled rosés for PSLs. But if you’re a savvy saver, you know the real reason to really love this season has nothing to do with pumpkin-flavored products, and more to do with it being prime time to fly the skies, frugally.

Massive Equifax breach may have affected you: Here’s what you should do, STAT

This article was updated Sept. 11 to reflect a recent statement from Equifax clarifying that
“enrolling in the free credit file monitoring and identity theft protection that we are offering as part of this cybersecurity incident does not waive any rights to take legal action.” Equifax reportedly faces at least 23 proposed class-action lawsuits.

Equifax, one of the three major credit reporting bureaus, announced yesterday that it’s been exposed to a major data breach, giving Americans one more reason to order that second of glass of wine today.

Frugal City Guide: How to spend 72 hours in Singapore

When you find a round-trip flight to Singapore for $350 (shoutout to The Points Guy for that deal alert), you go. Passing up on a deal like that is basically a sin.

Call me crazy, but I took on a little under 40 hours of travel for a mere 72 hours in Singapore. I packed in as much adventure—including a trip to Indonesia and a hike through a forest canopy—in that short time, and the best part is, I didn’t stray from my budget or dip into my savings account! I saw the city-state as frugally as possible, crashed at an affordable Airbnb, and added a few more stamps to the pages of my passport.

H&M, Zara and other stores to find fashionable clothes at fashionable prices

New York Fashion Week officially has arrived, eliciting envy from frugal fashionistas nationwide.

If you’re not an A-list celeb or recent recipient of a trust fund, the threads worn by the models strutting down the catwalk are far from financially attainable. But you don’t have to be a millionaire to be on-trend this fall, and you can find fashionable pieces at a slew of stores.

Splurge on classic pieces like a good trench coat or black ballet flats, and get your designer-inspired duds at discounted prices. While they might not be the best quality and only last you a season or two, fashionable, trendy pieces get outdated fast, so your hard-earned cash is best invested elsewhere.

Whether you’re lusting over statement furs or crushed velvet this fall, check out these stores for affordable fall fashion. Your #OOTD just got a lot cheaper.

Ladies, book that trip: Now’s the time to travel solo

Blame it on Instagram influencers eliciting travel envy with those perfect pics, or in-flight entertainment really stepping it up a notch, but millennials are stacking up those passport stamps… and they’re doing it solo.

A new survey from TheCashlorette.com reveals that solo travel is most appealing to millennials: Overall, 58 percent say they would do it, and 26 percent already have. Twenty-six percent of millennial women, it turns out, have traveled solo, and 27 percent have not, but would consider doing it in the future.

So where are these women wrecked by wanderlust headed to? If money were no issue, TheCashlorette.com survey found that domestically, Hawaii is the top spot for women across all generations, and internationally, Italy was the most popular destination across all genders, age groups and party lines. Because nothing brings together a country quite like pizza and pasta, am I right?

Two heavyweight streaming services just gave me yet another reason to be jealous of all those college students flocking back to campus this fall.

Undergraduate college students in the U.S. can now sign up for a special, $4.99 monthly package that will give them access to both streaming music on Spotify Premium for Students and streaming video and TV content on Hulu’s limited commercials plan.
