We a planning to participate in a multi-family yard sale the first Saturday in August. I’m pumped. We should be able to make a few bucks, get rid of some clutter, and better organize our home. We have secured a location for the yard sale and obtained all of the necessary permits. We plan to spend the Friday evening before the yard sale, pricing specific items and getting ready for the sale. Also, we’ll have change on hand and a secure place to store any money we will receive. After the sale is over, we’ll donate any of the remaining items to a local charity. Beginning last week, I divided our house into manageable sections – and began to sort…
My family and I recently returned from an awesome week at the beach. The weather was great – not too hot, but warm enough for swimming and hanging out at the beach. We had a blast. Each year, we visit that same area – but shop around for the best deal on a local condo. This year, we found an…
My family and I recently returned from an awesome week at the beach. The weather was great – not too hot, but warm enough for swimming and hanging out at the beach. We had a blast. Each year, we visit that same area – but shop around for the best deal on a local condo. This year, we found an amazing, three-bedroom, three-bathroom condominium, just across the road from the beach. We saved money by picking a non-beachfront unit. By walking about 100 extra feet, we saved several hundred dollars. Our kids are now old enough to move about the condo complex on their own – so we also saved a little money by being on the fourth floor, rather…
My wife and I filed our taxes this evening. The process was pretty straightforward and only took a few hours. We have a small refund heading our way – we plan to use it to help rebuild our long-term cash savings. Over the years, we have used our tax refunds for:- funding our emergency fund, purchasing furniture for our new home, paying off credit card debt, and going on vacation. In a perfect world, we would have our withholding dialed in, and our refund would be very, very small. As many have stated before, there’s no reason to give the government a “tax free loan”. The reality is, our income fluctuates each year, and we would rather play it safe…
My wife and I are working to pay off our fixed-rate, conventional, fifteen-year mortgage. Our goal is to eliminate our mortgage debt in less than 10 years. We have been paying off our mortgage for 7 years now – and it’s cool to see more and more of our monthly payment go towards our principal. I use a simple pie-chart to track our progress – and post our updates here at No Credit Needed. Having a visualization keeps us motivated! Here’s a chart with details for our current progress – The percentages above represent the amount of our mortgage we have paid – 42% – and the amount we still owe – 58%. Our process is pretty simple –…
Several years ago, I purchased a really nice barn-style shed to store my lawn mower and a few tools. Since then, I have added a lean-to to the side of the shed – and now park my mower there. As of right now, the inside of the shed is literally over-flowing with tools, Christmas decorations, and an assortment of other stuff/junk. Before you think bad of me, allow me a few more details. I was recently gifted with a huge selection of power tools, fasteners, hardware supplies, and other belongs-in-the-shed type items – but I haven’t had the time to organized them. They’re just in the shed, ready to be sorted. That’s this week’s after-work project. Here’s a picture of…
It’s that time of year – time to buy gifts for our friends and family. I love giving gifts, I love saving money, and I would prefer that the gifts that I give be practical. I’ll skip over some of the more traditional gifts – and focus on things that can be used, year-long. Here are a few of the things I’m purchasing (or have purchased) this year: Click on the individual items for up-to-date pricing! The Zinus Memory Foam mattresss is awesome. It is comfortable, holds its shape, and has more than 70% 5-star reviews. We have one – and will be buying another, for our youngest. (This item is discounted, today!) The Coleman Quad Chair is perfect for…
Over the past few months, I’ve dealt with some now-resolved health issues. I’m doing great now, but I have a deeper appreciation for free and discounted prescription drugs. Here’s an updated list of pharmacies, drug stores, and supermarkets that offer free or discounted prescriptions. Information is subject to change. Check each store website for full […]
It’s Day Two of my plan to reorganize my finances and improve this website. Today I spent some time making a few phone calls and working on organization. Here’s what I accomplished (and what I didn’t) – My first goal was to call our satellite television provider and discuss options for lowering our monthly bill. […]
