Congratulations on the book and thanks for sharing the recipes. It's about time I'll pull my crock pot out of storage, so the timing of the bean recipe is perfect.
My favorites are potatoes ~ Sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes. Both are inexpensive and both are easy to cook into delicious Thanksgiving side dishes.
My mother makes Boston Brown Bread in large empty soup can(s) that is baked in the oven. The bread, when done, pops right out of the can and then is cut using the score marks from the can. Great kitchen wisdom!
I just made turkey noodle soup last night and it was delicious. Egg noodles, carrots, a leek, onion, celery, prepared chicken stock and half a cut up rotisserie turkey breast from the grocery store. I think soup is always the way to go when you're on a budget. All in all, the ingredients for the soup probably cost about $8 since I saved half the turkey breast and used only half a bag of noodles.
I recently won a Bracketron Ipad 2 cover from a twitter giveaway. I do not own an Ipad 2, but none the less it will come in handy for when (hopefully), I am able to purchase one. Surprisingly, I received it in two days after the announcement.
Oh no, please, please, PLEASE DO NOT USE ALUMINUM FOIL TO CLEAN YOUR CAR'S WHEELS! I am a professional automotive detailer who specializes in high-end automobiles (from BMW and MB to Ferrari, Bentley, etc), but I also work on "regular" cars too.
This is the worst idea I've ever heard!
Thanks for the tips, Jason! I don't travel much myself, but a friend is planning to surprise her parents with a trip to Europe to celebrate their anniversary next year. I'm definitely sending her here. =)
#7 was tried on mythbusters- opening the door or window- near impossible. By the time the pressure equalized, you were without air for some time. Much better to have the glass cracker in you car. It applies focus pressure that other implements don't, and will break the glass for you.
Pancakes! Hot off the griddle with just a bit of butter, then rolled up, picked up, and munched. Add a glass of milk on the side, and I'm as close to heaven as I can be on earth.
Buying certain products for the large number of airline miles always makes me think Adam Sandler piling his cart full of pudding in Punch Drunk Love. You seem a bit more down to earth. =)
I never know what to put in my complaint letters. I start off being too mad to write anything coherent. But when I cool down I forget to write it at all.
Do you have some kind of template that always works for you?
My personal favorite is tortellini in butter sauce. Buy frozen bag of cheese tortellini $4, 1/2 stick of butter, bag of store brand frozen peas (2 cups) $3, and grated parm cheese (1/2 cup $3.
*Boil the tortellini
*pour over peas in strainer
*Dump back in pot and add butter and parm
*Stir until melted
I found this on a frugal website and have been addicted ever since. The leftover peas and parm will last another tortellini dish. So even though you spend $10 dollars today, you will only have to spend $4 another.
This is a great list of ideas! As an Audible subscriber, one of my rewards right now is to buy an audio book. It's something I can do to get a boost and reward my mind at the same time.
Welcome to Wise Bread! Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to maximizing the bonuses on my credit cards.

Candied sweet potatoes are my all time favorite. They go with any and everything and they are so so so yummy!!
I love to dip rippled potatoe chips in soft cream cheese with pineapple. The salty and sweet really complement each other.

How often do you find you're able to get bumped? I've tried a few times, but it's never worked out for me.

Sadly, in Canada and the United States only 1 in 10 people are First aid/CPR/AED certified.

Congrats Meg! I think it's time we have another company lunch. You can be responsible for making food! :)
