While women might be more careful in trying to get something practical, they are also seen as goldmines because salesmen think they can tell a woman anything and she'll believe it. So, unless a woman is tough and negotiates strongly, she's not going to get a better price than a man.
Toilet paper and paper towels don't get coupons very often. If you're saving $300 a month, a mere $40 for a year membership to Sams club or other bulk store might come in handy. I've got a 36 ct. of toiletpaper for $15 at sams before. It's not near free, but it's definitely cheaper - I use bulk any time I can't find an item for near free with coupons.
Just taking an hour or two on one day can literally save us hours in a week. It's smart to have foods prepared when we know that our future time will be limited.
Yes, it's pretty small -- because I keep having emergencies! But I guess that's what it's for, no? It's always car repairs or vet bills, it seems, one or the other.
i love couponing i have gotten my family in louisiana doing it i save 300 a month on eveything i just dont know how to get free toilet paper can some one tell me how thank u
I just got thru watch extreme couponing...and it was the show with Amanda on it !!! That girl needs to chill out, she is so rude to her husband (if that is who he is). She got blend out of shape cause she couldn't find her coupons. And snapped her fingers at that poor man. If I was him, I wouldn't help her. She needs to get a hobby...maybe watching movies with her hubby. And chilling out with alittle popcorn. When couponing makes you mean. Its time to stop...or back off. I do coupon but not extreme...just enough to help out with the budget !!
working at starbucks and trying to pay off student loans have left me pretty short on cash in recent months..... however by living on the cheap i have been able to build up a couple thousand in order to use in emergencies
If you own a horse, you can also use it as a fungus treatment :) works great on rain rot and other nasty funguses on the legs. You have to use the antiseptic yellow listerine though. Just pour all over the effected area and let dry, it won't hurt their hair color :)
Yes, we have a little over $5,000 in it, which should cover us for 3-6 months depending on which of us might lose our job. (I figure the odds of us BOTH losing our jobs at the same time are slim. - knock on wood! - If we did, we'd need more for 6 months expenses...) So far, we have not had to tap the emergency fund, in the 3+ years that we've had it. (Again, knock on wood.)
I have a couple of things in place. A big fat 10K CD, that in an emergency I would gladly take the penalty to break. I also have an ING account that has 25K in a 12 step ladder, that I am less likely to break, just cuz it took me so long to get it set up just right! And then I have 5K just in a boring regular savings account.
But yes . . . I have one and I am thrilled to have it in place!
I like making fried rice on the weekend. It's leftover velcro. It's easier to make a big batch (8-10 servings). It reheats well. It can be a meal by itself in a pinch, or paired with a simple meat/veg (like salmon fillets from Costco: 10 minutes in the toaster oven). Great topic!
While I was in grad school, I realized I was too tired to cook when I got home, so I would prepare three days' worth of protein and side salads at a time. I cut up 2-3 chicken breasts into chunks and cooked them in marinade. I would then divide the chicken and salad greens among three containers each. All I had to do when I got home was reheat the chicken and grab a salad.
I have about 12K that's either in well spread out 1yr cd's or a separate account from normal spending (now that CD rate has dropped below interest from a regular account) That's not counting anything extra to my budget that's sitting around and building up. This way I know I can cover the bare bones for at least a year and other savings can cover some other expenses. I also have at least 6mo ahead in an account sitting to cover student loan payments, and I take extra each month to bring those down as well from my budget.
Great advice! Simple, but far reaching!
We have an emergency fund that would last about 3 months. We're trying to build it up to 6 months
Retailmenot is my favorite site but you missed my another best coupon site http://www.couponrefund.com which has coupons for more than 12000 stores.

Yes, although usually by the time I build up enough to cover a small emergency I have a small emergency.
mm, i love hummus!
#9 is great too. making chicken or fish ahead of time and just heating up is a great time saver.
Yes! We have an emergency fund and I don't trhink we could not have one.
I have a small emergency fund that I have only had to use for some small emergencies, thankfully. But I am slowly but surely building my fund.
I don't have one -- but I'm starting one next paycheck :)

No not really, but I am working on building one.

Not only is fried rice a great idea, but I love the description "leftover velcro."

My Biggest challenge was getting married without having a huge credit card debt to have to pay off!
Yep--6 months of expenses!
